Now, I find that I have just enough "noise" to get to sleep. I prefer the surf sound. The rain is also good. The waterfall sound is a little too monotone for my tastes and I am not all that excited over the crickets and frogs. But, overall I am sleeping better with the sound machine.
The machine itself is very easy to operate and produces good, but not great, sound. The sounds are not quite true to life, but they serve their purpose.
If it is just a little too quiet for you and you need a little noise to get some sleep, I would recommend this machine.

I formerly reviewed this as my first choice of noise masking items. I had one in my bedroom that had run almost continuously, day and night, for nine years! It still works perfectly, but now I'm using it for travel.I had tried some of the drug store and discount store machines that had a rhythmic sound that kept me awake, but the "waterfall" sound on this one is continuous. (I haven't used any of the other sounds because they would defeat my purpose.)
I decided to try the Marsona 980A for travel (a round, white, noise masking machine only--no nature sounds or options). As a result the 980A is in my bedroom and this one is in my suitcase. I realized I didn't need to pay the extra money for various adjustments, timers, etc. I only need a whooshing noise in the background, and the 980A provides that, for about $40 less. This one makes a noise that is almost like a low, continuous grinding sound--but it is effective.
This model has some handy features: Good sound adjustment, a timer, a variety of sounds, a flat profile. For just a whooshing sound the 980A is fine.

This is one of the best products of its kind I've ever used. The sounds are much more realistic than other brands I've tried. They really sound like what they're supposed to. I give this an A+ I highly recommend it to those who need sleep machines.Want Marsona DS-600A Sound Conditioner with Six Sounds Discount?
I bought this product for my niece who just purchased a condo unit with thin walls. I was familiar with the older (basic) versions of Marpac white-noise machines and thought I would give the "new and improved" digital version as a gift. The 6 options of soothing sounds were VERY nice, so I ordered it at a hefty price, I might add, for my sleep-challenged niece's pleasure. She LOVED it until after approximately 4 weeks (!) of use the unit starting making annoying clicking noises instead of soothing environmental sounds. She is in the process of repacking the unit and sending it back to the manufacturer for replacement/reconditioning. Sometimes fancier (digital in this case) is not necessarily better.
