They are a bit harder to find but no need to O.D. if you don't need to. Also dials down the dreams to near zero for me.I've taken melatonin a long time, and it definitely works for me. I really like this 1mg dosage, which is very hard to find in drugs stores. It is the perfect dosage for me. I fall asleep within 20 minutes, but I never feel drugged out. I much prefer this over the 3mg version, since I don't seem to need the extra dose.I've read that different people require different doses of Melatonin to accomplish the good sleep they're looking for, and that's true in my experience. For me, any more than 1 or 1.5 mg at night will leave me feeling strange the whole next day. I can't explain the feeling any better than just "strange." It's messing with the hormone balance, I'm guessing.
But locally I've only found dosages of 3 mg and more, so I end up cutting the pills, which often shatters them. I finally gave up and ordered these 1 mg pills, and so far they're perfect for me. And price-wise, these are a much better value than anything purchased locally, as well.
One thing I've noticed about Melatonin is, it's just like normal sleepiness. If you're not feeling well otherwise, have aches in the body or problems on your mind, it's not necessarily going to give you a full night's sleep. On those occasions, it tends to get me to sleeping ok, but only to wake up again a short time later, repeatedly for most of the night. So for those times, a regular sleeping pill becomes necessary. Or I just stay up and read. That's just me. As I said, apparently everyone reacts differently to Melatonin.

The 1mg dose makes it a lot easier to set my own dose. I generally take just one, but some nights I step up to taking two. It's much easier and more accurate than trying to score and cut the standard 3mg pills.One thing to watch out for is that these pills are not coated. That doesn't bother me, but it might bother some people.My husband has been able to eliminate (by weaning down) and use this with good results. Not needing quite as much sleep and waking much less groggy; it does not seem to need to 'wear off'.
