SP Medical Super Deluxe CPAP Chin Strap, Extra Large

SP Medical Super Deluxe CPAP Chin Strap, Extra Large
  • Wide Comfortable Band
  • Elastic material accomodates various headsizes
  • One Size Fits All
  • Very supportive

I bought this chin strap (it is really a kind of short, broad elastic bandage) several years ago. My (then new) CPAP equipment covered my nose, but I realized that during the night my mouth was falling open. (One symptom: you wake up in the morning with an unbelievably dry mouth.)

I searched all over the web for some kind of strap to hold my chin up and my mouth closed. There were a lot of them, and they came in all kinds of shapes, sizes and prices. I finally bought this one because it was reasonably priced and it looked like it would do the job.

It has worked well for me for a number of years. Mine is getting old now (the elastic is finally losing its... elasticity) and I'm about to order another one.

The strap is adjustable (via a wide velcro strip) and comfortable. I'm a man, and I keep my hair cut fairly short. I wear the chin strap a little farther back on my head, and a litte farther forward on my chin, than the picture shows. Because it is wide, it fits over the curve of my skill at the back of my head, and the curve of my chin in the front, and it stays in place... it doesn't slip off.

The model that I originally ordered came with a second, smaller strap that was designed to run around behind the head. I never needed it and never used it. It is not shown in the product picture, so they may not even be shipping the second strap any more.

As I say, I'm a man and I keep my hair cut fairly short. If you wear your hair long and piled up on the top of your head, that *might* be an issue. For you, a model with a round-the-head strap *might* be better. My advice would be to try this model and see if it works for you. And then, if it doesn't, you'll have a better idea of what you need.

For me, this product is just what I need, so I give it 5 stars. It is inexpensive, and it is effective.

I did my sleep study with a nasal mask and had no issues with the mask itself. However I woke up with a mouth as dry as death valley due to my jaw dropping open. So they prescribed a full face mask. After three different masks and constant battles with leaks and tearing it off in the night I switched to a nasal mask. This product works great and keeps my jaw from dropping open. I have had it for two months and only one time had a dry mouth issue. (my lips parted) The strap is comfortable, easy to use and stays in place. The only issue I may have is it scrunches up the skin on my chin. I wonder if long term that could cause bad wrinkling on my face (in my early 30's). That isn't enough to stop me from using it though. I am now getting REST and my energy has returned! Something I had been missing for a few years.

Very prompt service. The device worked well and nearly eliminated the intermittent problems with air flow from the cpap through nose and out the mouth. Although the reviews said one would last a long time, I am likely to get a second one for when the first is being laundered. Reasonable price, excellent service, helps with a better night's sleep!

I am generally happy with my purchase. When going on the CPAP sites this item is priced as high as $50, which is way wrong! The shipping price for this product however is ridiculous. It's nearly weightless so no reason to charge $6.00 for shipping. Otherwise I would have given this 5 stars.

I highly recommend this if you use a CPAP mask! I tired numerous chin straps and this is ONLY one that truly works. I now wake up without that terrible dry mouth and caked up dry tongue! Love it!

One the best things is, it has two separtate straps not shown in the picture which you can use to secure it behind and in front so it doesn't slip down.
