The Wrinkle Prevention Pillow

The Wrinkle Prevention Pillow, PinkThis pillow is amazing. Very comfortable and I don't wake up with a scrunched face and bags under my eyes. When I think of all the money I have spent on eye creams, paying $100 for this pillow is a real deal. And I sleep so well . . . that can't hurt either! Excellent concept.

Weighted Blanket Small Tan 8 lbs 36" x 42"

Weighted Blanket Small Tan 8 lbs 36' x 42'I have a 5 year old autistic son that has had issues sleeping ever since he came out of the crib. All night long we would have to walk him back to his room and tell him to go to sleep and "your not sleeping in our room"! We were having horrible nights of sleep and we were always tired in the morning. My wife and I decided to try this out from a recommendation from another mom with an autistic child. This blanket has worked wonders! My son now sleeps through the night and doesn't constantly wake up! We call it his "Hug Blanket". He loves it. It has taken a ton of stress out of our lives and I want to thank whoever came up with this idea. I would recommend this blanket to anyone with similar issues. It might not work for everyone, but it worked wonders for us. It's worth a try.

I ordered this for my toddler son who doesn't want to stay in his own bed. He immediately responded to the weighted blanket and seems to draw security from it and loves it. He calls it his bean bag blanket. I'm ordering another one for his naps at school.

Satin Nites Large Satin Scarf #779

Satin Nites Large Satin Scarf #779I usually wear a silk cap to bed. Since it's hotter, I decided I needed to find something a bit more light and suitable for the Summer months. This baby here is the answer to my natural hair prayers. I tie it up at night, roll around in bed (I'm what they'd call a "rough" sleeper.) and wake up in the morning only needing to do my usual ritual after a gentle shake of the head. My hairstyle wasn't compromised at all. A wee bit smushed, but after that initial shake, it was as if nothing had been on my head at all. I am so glad I chose this instead of another super expensive company claiming they were "the best". This was affordable, it came right on time, and the next time I need another one I'll be right here on Amazon.

I am satisfied with the Satin Nights Scarf, this product is very good for my hair, since I have used this scarf, I have noticed a reduction in hair breakage.

If you are planning to use this for bed, just get a bonnet. It comes off at night and if you have long hair, it's hard to wrap it with the triangle shape that it comes in. The whole scarf is a square, but the satiny part is only 1/2 of the scarf.

Sona Sleep Apnea Snore Buster Pillow

Sona Sleep Apnea Snore Buster PillowThis pillow was recommended for me following a medical sleep study. I stop breathing (20 times per hour) when I sleep on my back. That's every 3 minutes. Add to that the fact that my oxygen dropped 12%, and you KNOW I have a problem.

Given the choice between learning to sleep on my side or wearing a cpap machine for the rest of my sleeping life, I came out and found this turtle-like pillow to help me learn how to safely sleep at night, and bought one. That was two weeks ago. When it arrived, I tried different names for it, "the turtle" "the dove," and finally came up with "the Bump." And so the Bump and I had to become friends.

At first, even knowing I had no choice, I "fought" sleeping with the Bump. I mentally pictured it safely holding me in place, but I still kept trying to turn over in my sleep, and waking up when I couldn't. I must have awakened 20 times or more that first night. The second night was a bit better. And, over the course of two weeks, I finally had my first full night's sleep, waking up once or twice and turning over to my other side, then falling quickly back to sleep.

BUT, even before that first full night, I could tell a difference. I began waking up more alert and aware. I no longer have to take a nap during the day to survive (waking up from the nap even more sleepy and tired). Since the sleep study was able to identify my problem, I know that I am breathing better, sleeping deeper, especially since I am waking up more rested. Even my morning blood sugar has significantly improved.

For those buying this to reduce snoring ... it does that too, by forcing you to lay in the correct position where your throat remains open.

But the primary FDA approval is for Sleep Apnea particularly the kind that I have, positional sleep apnea.

It is designed to train you to sleep on your side, and to help you be comfortable in the correct sleeping position. It takes time to learn to sleep in this position. In my case, it was two weeks to become comfortable all night long, but for some people, it can take up to a full month. So do not purchase this pillow unless you are willing to make that kind of commitment.

My husband snores very loudly. I was about to give up and sleep in the other room, but I decided to bite the bullet and buy this pillow. The fact that it is FDA approved impressed me. So, here's our experience: The pillow works IF you use it correctly. When my husband lays on his side on the proper part of the pillow, he doesn't snore. HOWEVER, when he rolls onto his back and/or sleeps towards the middle of the pillow, he snores. He doesn't put his arm straight out like the picture shows, but that doesn't seem to matter so long as his arm is at least slightly under the pillow. He did not find the pillow too hard as some reviewers say. It is squishy but in a "structured" way. As such, I would recommend this pillow for anyone who is able to sleep on their side. 9 out of 10 nights he doesn't snore.

I was desperate for help with my husband's loud snoring, so I chose not to heed the negative reviews and focused on the positive ones hoping that would apply to usit didn't. Don't make the mistake I did. This pillow is the most uncomfortable pillow in creationI will never know if it helps with snoring, because it pushes a person's neck at an unnatural angle 45 degrees upward that leads to severe neck crampingmy husband will not use it after making several attempts. Absolute waste of money; save it for ear plugs and a loud white noise maker.

I have sleep apnea, and have been trying to get a sleep program that works for me. I have tried almost everything, and this pillow was featured on TV with a popular doctor's daily show. I jumped on it thinking this was a magic fix. I used it for almost a year now on and off. This is my objective review. The first night, it ended up on the floor, and I grabbed my old pillow for the rest of the night. I re-read the do's and don't instructions included with the pillow. I had it right from the beginning. Second night was a repeat of the first night, the next, and then the next were the same. The idea is to sleep on your side to avoid snoring, and the obstructive sleep disorder associated with sleep apnea. I have tried this pillow for at least a year, and it just keeps ending up on the floor, and I end up with my regular foam filled pillow. Sleeping on your side is easy, and this pillow doesn't help much. If you want to sleep on your side, there is a method to it that really works, and it isn't this pillow.

Burt's Bees Radiance Night Creme, 2-Ounce Jar

Burt's Bees Radiance Night Creme, 2-Ounce Jar11-10-2011 Update:

I have to admit it was quite difficult to find a good replacement for the Burt's Bees Night Creme(original formula), but after trying several brands in the past few months there were two that stood out above the rest.

1. La Roche-Posay Toleriane Riche Soothing Protective Facial Cream, 1.35-Ounce: This product is the closest to Burt's Bee's Night Creme(original formula) that I could find. In some ways, this product is superior(ie even thinner and lighter than burts bees and absorbs faster), but the cost is very high $21+ for 1.35oz. The ingredients in this product rates insanely well for being safe-to-use at EWG Cosmetic website, so if cost isn't an issue for you this product is definitely worth a try.

2. Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream, 3.0 Ounces Tube (Pack of 3): This product is my recommended alternative. Although this product is not as fluid as the Burt's Bees Night Creme(original formula), it has all the essential characteristics: non-greasy, easy to apply, absorbs quickly, feels light on the skin, and no scent+++! Also, the ingredients in this product is rated very well(safe-to-use) at EWG Cosmetic Website. Lastly, I think it is important to note that the price is amazing!; Amazon sells the 3oz(3-pack) for only ~$16!. A lot of local stores carry this product, go try it out!

Good luck!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------End of 11-10-2011 Update

I was very disappointed to find out that Burt's Bees had changed their Night Creme to a new formula while using almost identical packaging(I actually set the old and new packaging side-to-side to compare). I have enjoyed using Burt's Bees Night Creme for more than 3 years, but this new formula feels almost like a completely different product.

Here is my comparison of Burt's Bees Night Creme Original vs New Formula:

Original Formula:

+ Non-Greasy

+ Absorbs Very Quickly

+ Feels light on the skin(texture of creme is almost water-like)

+ Very light smell that fades away very quickly

New Formula:

Greasy(does not feel good when applied on face)

Does not absorb quickly(probably because it's greasy)

Does not feel light(texture of creme feels thick and uneasy to apply)

An overly sweet & strong smell(personally I think the smell is very strong, unnaturally sweet, and an abomination)

Conclusion:

New improvements or additions to a product can be very beneficial, but it seems like Burt's Bees has changed this product completely. Burt's Bees has completely lost sight of the fundamental characteristics that makes this product unique, and even more disappointing is their decision to use the same packaging for a different product.

I have tried a lot of night creams---expensive or inexpensive-When I tried this cream at first I thought it did not work. After a month of using it I really noticed a difference in the way my skin looked and the way it felt. Also my skin is very sensitive the older I get and I am 50+. I will break out so easy now so I have to be pickey with what I put on my skin. It is very thick and you only need a little bit for your face and neck.

This product is great-Cost 14.99@CVS---for 2ounces. Well worth the money

My husband picked this product for me as a Christmas gift. Night cremes at retail stores are very expensive and sometimes do not work as expected. Radiance night creme is a good replacement for those products. It leaves my face smooth and fresh by morning, providing moisture to help eliminate wrinkles and dryness. I would highly recommend to anyone wanting less dryness and smoother face and neck areas.

I love this night cream! It is perfect for my dry skin. I have been using this for almost 4 months now and have seen huge improvements in the texture of my skin. My only complaint is I am not a huge fan of potted creams as I prefer pumps however, this product is so nice I can't even dock it a star for packaging.

Too Faced Shadow Insurance

Too Faced Cosmetics, Shadow Insurance, 0.35 OunceYou've probably seen my review before, but I had to share my opinion on this product to make sure. There are different sellers who sell this product and I didn't want anyone to miss my review. So here goes!

I don't know why I didn't buy this product sooner. I've always had a problem with my eyeshadow creasing not long after applying it. I have really oily eyelids, along with my forehead and nose. I would just reapply my eyeshadow and it just looked like a caked on mess.

I finally bought the Too Faced Shadow Insurance and I am SO happy! To see a difference, I used the primer on one eyelid and none on the other. After only just three hours, the primerless eyelid was already creased and the shadow was fading. It looked terrible. How did I ever put up with this? The lid with primer was flawless! I checked every hour and it stayed put for over EIGHT hours! After about eight hours, the shadow did start to fade, but not as bad as the primerless eyelid. After 12 hours, I did notice a little creasing. I'm extremely satisfied with the results.

I know that the Urban Decay Primer Potion is really popular, so I got a small sample of it at Sephora to compare the two. Well, they were pretty much the same. The Too Faced did go on my eyelids more easily and it felt more silky. But the results were the same. Here's my opinion. With the Urban Decay, the bottle design is really stupid. In order to get all the product in there, you have to literally saw the bottle into three parts. Then you have to scoop out the remaining product and put it in jars. And even if you do get all the remaining product, there's a possibility that the product might dry out. Plus that doesn't sound hygienically safe. I say get the Too Faced because the tube is squeezable, allowing you to get all the product inside.

I really thought that this product wouldn't work. I was skeptical because my eyelids are so oily. I was pleasantly surprised and now I'm sold. This will be a staple in my beauty routine. Go get it!

I absolutely love this primer! I have tried a few others (not naming any specifically) and this was hands down THE best. I work in a really stressful environment and routinely put in ten to twelve hour days and my eyeshadow and liner don't budge an inch. Seriously, they only come off when I clean my face at night with eye makeup remover. You cannot go wrong in purchasing this product.

This past year I have become a bit of a makeup junkie, purchasing several high-end products for the very first time. Most of these purchases have been in the form of MAC eyeshadows, which retail for either $11.00 or $14.50 each (depending on whether you get them in a pan or a pot). Because I began spending so much on eyeshadow, I wanted to make sure that it would not fade or crease throughout the day. I was getting recommendations for both Too Faced Shadow Insurance and Urban Decay Primer Potion, but because they are the same price and have equally favorable reviews, I went with the less complicated packaging and chose Too Faced Shadow Insurance. Overall, I give TFSI a rating of 4. Not only is the tube super convenient, but the product sticks to its promise of prolonging the wear of eyeshadow by preventing creases/fading. And for those of you who are wondering, this product isn't just designed for higher-end shadows. Many of my drugstore shadows display an increase lasting power and become super blendable when applied over a thin layer of this. And because TFSI is tinted, it also evens out eyelid discoloration and makes the eyes look a bit brighter. Sometimes, if I do not feel like putting on eyeshadow, I will just apply a small bit of this to make me look more awake--it's a bit like foundation, but with a MUCH thinner consistancy and only for your eyelids. Because a little goes a long way (you will only need a small dot about half the size of the head of thumbtack), TFSI lasts for awhile. I have had mine for four months, and even though I use it up to twice a day, the tube is still very full and shows no obvious signs of heavy usage. However, though my rating is positive on the whole, I do have one complaint. Whether this is the fault of the company, just a faulty product, or due to improper storage I am not certain, but my tube of Too Faced Shadow Insurance often gets very watery. There have been many times (at least once or twice a week) when I go to squeeze on the tube and only a clear, watery liquid comes out. A second squeeze usually warrants better results, but I find this kind of annoying for such a pricey product. As I said, this may be totally my fault (though I store my makeup in a pretty normal environment), but I had to deduct a rating point regardless. Even though I have put it on my to-do list to try out Urban Decay Primer Potion, I will most definitely repurchase this. Afterall, why mess with a (99.98%) perfect thing?

Read Best Reviews of Too Faced Shadow Insurance Here

I have been using Too Faced Primer for quite a while and immediately I noticed the tube and packaging is slightly different. The next thing I noticed is that the smell, color, and texture are all different. You guessed it, this primer did nothing to keep my eye makeup from creasing and wearing off.

Want Too Faced Shadow Insurance Discount?

I seriously question whether the tube I received is actually Too Faced eye-shadow primer. I got this because I bought a Too Faced eye-shadow pallet and I had used a sample of this I got from Sephora that worked really well. The full size one I bought here doesn't work AT ALL, after only a couple hours all my eyeshadow is in the crease of my eye. I have the Urban Decay in Greed (its shimmery) and I love it so I think I'm just going to make the trip to Sephora and buy a tube of that in the original Potion shade for when I don't want my eye-shadow to be iridescent. I am absolutely returning this for a full refund and I won't be trusting this seller ever again.

Melatonin 3 mg by Biochem - 90 Tablets

Country Life Melatonin Rapid Release 3 mg, 90 TabletsI've taken melatonin supplements before at bigger doses than this 5mg from CVS. I didn't really feel anything, but when I took Country Life's 3mg quick release the cheapest brand at Whole Foods it hit me like 4-5 Benadryl would a normal person. I'm a moderately nervous/anxious type of person, but it was definitely bedtime for me after I first tried this.

Have worked the nightshift for 30 years (Baker) and have used over the counter sleeping pills for about the same amount of time. Decided to get off these meds and try something else. These work great! I take two about 30 minutes before bed and am sleeping as well as I ever have without the side effects of sleeping pills. hope this helps someone in the same boat.

Kirkland Signature Sleep Aid Doxylamine Succinate 25 Mg, 192-Count

Kirkland Signature Sleep Aid Doxylamine Succinate 25 Mg, 192-CountI switched over to this product after using Diphenhydramine HCl, the active ingredient in Benadryl. While the Diphenhydramine HClI worked for me, this product is much better. Because it is highly effective, it should be used with care. The following warning is from Wikipedia:

"Side effects

"Doxylamine succinate is a potent anticholinergic and has a side-effect profile common to such drugs, including dry mouth, ataxia, urinary retention, drowsiness, memory problems, inability to concentrate, hallucinations, psychosis, and a marked increased sensitivity to external stimuli. Like many hypnotics, it should not be combined with other antihistamines, such as Zyrtec (cetirizine) or diphenhydramine, as this combination can increase the risk of serious side effects. Using doxylamine over a long period of time is not recommended and can cause dependence. However, the drug is not addictive and withdrawal effects are unlikely to be experienced with prolonged use."

Finally, a sleeping pill that actually works! Can't take this full strength because it makes me sleep way too long and leaves me groggy the entire rest of the day. Broken in half, allows a GOOD full nights sleep with no bad side effects. Will try a 1/4 pill dosage soon and see what happens. Fearing dependence or wearing off, I only take this every 3rd or 4th night and it appears to be regulating my system to sleep better on it's own.

Absolutely can't beat the price and thanks Amazon for bringing this to my attention.

Update 4/12/2012: 1 year into using this neat little pill and it still does it's magic every time. I also believe that it really has helped regulate my sleep pattern better because I don't really need it as much as I did when first purchased.

I am given a very limited supply of Ambien by my cautious physician every year. So, when I experience bouts of sleeplessness, I usually find myself taking melatonin, which while occassionaly works, it can become less effective the more you take it.

Looking for over-the-counter alternatives, my Amazon search led me to a list of sleeping aids. This Kirkland brand advertises itself as being a credible alternative to the more expensive Unisom brand. I decided to pick up a box. Last evening, when I was feeling particularly "wired" after coming home and attempting to sleep, I took one of the small blue pills.

I don't know if the Kirkland Signature Sleep Aid pill actually helped me get to sleep faster, but it certainly kept me asleep throughout the night, and in the morning, I was so groggy that I didn't even want to get out of bed.

I realize that these pills are going to have different affects on each individual, but I can't see how people are testifying that they wake up feeling refreshed. I woke up in a fog, and had to drink a strong cup of coffee and a soda around noon just to bring myself out of a morning-long "funk."

I suppose if you are looking for something outside of a prescription that will suit the purpose of giving you a good night's sleep -then these pills will do the trick. However, I definately don't like the after-effects of being in a "fog" for most of the following morning and afternoon.

Want Kirkland Signature Sleep Aid Doxylamine Succinate 25 Mg, 192-Count Discount?

We were looking for a product like the original Unisom. I've noticed that recently the "blue sleeping pills" have changed from having Doxylamine Succinate to using Diphenhydramine Hydrochloride instead. This second ingredient doesn't work the same. The Kirkland tablets are exactly what I was looking for. Be warned, though, if you have never taken these before, do not take a whole one at first. Split it in half until you know what the effects are. To this day 1/2 a tablet works fine for me. This package is an excellent value.

Philips HF3480 Wake-up Light

Philips HF3480 Wake-up LightI was actually about to give this a five-star review. Barring a few ease-of-use problems, and things I thought should be customizable but were not, I was immensely satisfied. It would not be an overstatement to say that this unit provided the best wake-ups I'd ever experienced, and in long, dark winters, that's incredibly valuable. A few days ago, that's the review I would have written.

Unfortunately, today, it did not turn on to wake me up. The birds were singing, but the light was off. I was confused. I fiddled with it all morning before the sad truth dawned on me. The built-in light bulb was dead, broken or defective. After a month of use, my wonderful new alarm clock no longer functioned.

As it stands, this is a soulbreaker. I realize these things happen, but, as a reviewer, I have to be honest about it. I don't know how frequently this occurs, but potential buyers should be aware, even if this scores me "unhelpful" votes. I was unable to ascertain how to replace the lighbulb, if it's even possible, or what the cost of such a replacement would be.

I'm saddened and dismayed to have to submit this. I thoroughly enjoyed waking up with this alarm clock, but if its longevity is so brief, I cannot recommend it, and unless that somehow changes, this review will remain, unfortunately, as is.

If I have any luck with Philips tech support and/or replacing the bulb, I will gladly change this review and go back to joyously using the product.

UPDATE: While I was hoping to return with a customer service success story, it's simply not the case. I used Philips appropriate website, described my issue in detail, and gave them all my information. I was told I'd receive a reply within a day, but it's been two, and I've received none. For a product at this pricepoint, bulbs that cease functioning after a month (which would be outside Amazon.com's return policy) and unresponsive customer service is unacceptable. If I'd purchased this outright, I would be extremely upset. As it stands, I'm rather displeased and now have to shop for a hopefully much more reliable replacement.

++++Unhappy Update: The bulb died. I called Philips. The rep sweet talked me; saying I would soon have a replacement lamp and prepaid labels to ship back the dead unit. As the audible alarm still worked, I continued to wake up on time. Sadly, although it is now several weeks later, Philips has not done a thing. Worse yet, the darn thing made me late for work when the audible alarm, without any warning, stopped working. It is disappointing that Philips seems not to stand behind this product.++++

++++Update on June 14, 2010: I've given up on getting a free replacement lamp or bulb. I have to believe Philips is not sending me a new lamp because I got mine through the Amazon Vine program. I really miss the lamp.+++++

The Philips HF3480 promises to wake one gently from a night's sleep. And that's exactly what it does for me. During the 30 minutes before the alarm's set wake-up time, the Philips' lamp gradually increases in brightness, to a user set level, until one simply wakes up with (or without) the help of a pleasing audible alarm.

Out of the box, the unit has a sleek appearance; most unlike a typical alarm clock. For now, the Philips has a home on top of a hard back book on my night stand. As per the instructions, it is about 16 inches from the center of my pillow. Set up was quick and intuitive. 3 function selectors control all lamp's setup functions. By pressing and moving the selectors, one can change light intensity, set the time, and choose one of the audible alarms. It took me less than five minutes to remove the HF3480 from the box, set its functions, and position it on my night stand. The test feature allows one to get a preview of the lamp intensity and alarm volume; allowing one to easily adjust those levels, if necessary.

With the lights off, the time is illuminated by a soft, pleasing pale orange glow. Unlike my inexpensive Sony Dream Machine (a great basic alarm clock) Sony ICF-C218 Automatic Time Set Clock Radio (Black) the Philips does not overly light the room. The real joy of the Philips, though, is in waking up to its warm light and relaxing preset sounds. So far, my favorite wakeup sound are the meditative, gently wakeful sounds of the wind chimes. The bird sounds are pleasant, as well. Although I enjoy the sound of the jungle drums (the Jungle Sounds setting) I am not eager to wake up to them; at least not yet. The radio functionality works well, especially with the lengthy antenna. However, I prefer not to wake up to radio sounds so I do not use it.

With the default brightness and volume settings, I wake up to a warmly bright room with the sounds of gentle chimes filling my mind. It is a near perfect waking up experience. My body took the entire 30 minutes until the actual set wake time to rouse itself from sleep. It feels incredibly easy and natural to wake up this way. The snooze function will give an additional 10 minutes of light (without the audible alarm). For me, however, the wakeup is so invigorating I rarely use the snooze function.

The Philips HF3480 is a great product. For those willing to spend the money, it will certainly deliver the promised wake-up experience.

Like many others, my light bulb burnt out within a few months. Rather than send it back and get another one that will burn out just like my last one and wait a few months for the whole process, I took matters into my own hands and started taking it apart.

Here is how you replace the light bulb.

-Remove 4 rubber pads on feet and remove 4 screws.

-Try and not break plastic as you start prying the cover apart at the seams(I had to cut mine in one spot above the controls to get it to come off).

-Remove cover.

-Inside you'll see another white cover, remove the 4 screws and then the cover.

-Remove 4 small screws holding two white brackets that hold the cfl bulb down.

-Remove the two white brackets.

-Remove the metal jacket that covers the cfl bulb.

-Bend two black plastic clips back and start prying bulb off base.

-Use a flathead screwdriver to free the cfl bulb pins from the receptacles on the circuit board.

For installation just go in the reverse order.

The light bulb is a standard CFL 4 pin G24q-3 base, 26W/827.

I found one made by Sylvania at Lowe's for $7. Hopefully the Sylvania bulb lasts longer than the Philips.

From what I understand, CFL bulbs are not meant to be dimmed, they need to be full on or off to get the expected life out of them. I suspect the gradually brightning of the bulb by the alarm clock is what makes the bulb life so short.

The metal jacket that went around the bulb did not fit perfectly over my new bulb so I just clipped the wire and threw it away. The light still works with it removed. The CFL has mercury inside of it so dispose of it accordingly.

Hopefully this helps some other people bring their wake up lights back to life.

***1-8-10 Update***

I really liked this device initially. I gave it five stars in my original review because it worked like a charm and it was such a wonderful alternative to traditional alarm clocks. Both my wife and I loved it. Unfortunately, like many other users, mine eventually malfunctioned prematurely. I got nearly four months of great use and reliable wake-ups, but the light failed to turn on this morning. It worked for my wife, however, when she reset the clock for my wake-up, the light dimmed for good (by the way, dual alarms might be a good idea for the next version, as well as obviously increasing reliability or making the light user-replaceable). Attempts to get the light working again were futile. Given the number of complaints about the light prematurely failing, there is obviously an issue with this device. I can no longer recommend this until/unless this issue is resolved. It's such a shame because it really is a great device when it works. Unfortunately, I would not invest in an unreliable device with so many complaints for the same issue. I have not yet called Philips, so their warranty repair service had no impact on this modified review. If I could rate it again, I'd give it one star. Although I don't "hate" the device, there is just no way I could recommend such an unreliable product, especially since the bulb is not user-replaceable. After being spoiled, I now have to retrieve my old irritatingly loud alarm clock until Philips resolves the issue. It's not worth the substantial risk to purchase this. It's not even simply the fact that the light is not user-replaceable. I have several devices with internal lighting that may or may not go south one day (laptops, LCD TV's, iPods, etc). The difference is, these items have been reliable for years. The wake-up light apparently has a problem merely lasting six-months for a lot of folks.

Original review left intact below, so you can see how I felt when it worked

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've used an extra loud (literally the name of the device) alarm clock for the past four years. Even then, I still usually hit the snooze at least twice every morning. I also started using a Philips GoLite Blu light therapy device during the fall and winter months last year. I find it helps with my sleeping issues as well as seasonal affective disorder. I usually have little trouble waking early in the spring and summer, when days are longer and the sun rises earlier. Light is nature's alarm clock and it just happens to be the best there is. Fall and winter have always been my difficult seasons. While the GoLite Blu has helped tremendously, it's more like an energy boost after you use it. I still needed my ear-piercing alarm clock for mornings. I was very eager to give the Philips wake-up light a try. After receiving the device, I followed the quick setup instructions, adjusted the settings, and selected my desired wake tone. The menu was simple to use. There are four selectable tones you can wake to. I selected what the device specifies as "African Jungle", although it sounds more like a warm Caribbean steel drum tone. It seemed to have the best mix of loudness while still being relaxing. I set the volume at 15 (goes to max of 20). Afterward, I tested the device in demo mode and will admit, I initially had my concerns. It was three in the afternoon and the light was almost completely washed out by the afternoon sunlight. Also, even at 15, the drums sounded quiet and a little too soothing for me to believe they would be capable of waking me. Fearing it might not work, I set my old alarm clock to go off five minutes after the wake light (little did I know, I'd never need the old alarm again). The next morning, I actually woke after the light started glowing dimly, but before audible alarm of the wake up light. When I realized the audible alarm hadn't yet sounded, I looked at the time and saw I had an additional 15 minutes to sleep. As the light got brighter and brighter I could gradually feel myself awakening more until I heard the soft sound of the drums begin very quietly and gradually raise in volume until reaching my preset maximum loudness. The best part is, due to the gradual awakening instead of the abrupt snatch-you-out-of-your-sleep-like-a-baby-out-of-the-womb waking I'm used to, I had no lingering drowsiness and I did not feel the need to hit the snooze once. I merely flipped the alarm lever to "Off" and hopped out of bed, feeling surprisingly refreshed and well-rested instead of groggy. It was like waking naturally on a weekend.

I can happily report that I had the same result the remainder of the week. By the third day, I didn't get to bed until 2am. The wake-up light still managed to wake me at 5:30 with only one press of the snooze button. Not only did I only have to press it once, I woke on my own before the 9-minute snooze period was up. (By the way, the pre-determined snooze time is non-adjustable).

I see there are some concerns about the light being non-user replaceable. While I completely understand this very valid concern, it's also a chance we take with many things. We don't know if that $400 MP3 player or digital camera will function as long as we hope. The most popular (and expensive) line of MP3 players still come with non-user replaceable batteries (and backlights). LCD televisions and laptops all use backlights, so you're putting your trust in the life of a lamp at some point for many things. This light comes with a two-year manufacturer warranty, so you can take comfort in the fact that you will get at least two years of use out of it. If you're really worried, purchase it with a gold or platinum credit card and you can tack on a third year of warranty coverage free of charge. I'm not certain this is a deal breaker.

So far, I can't really find any negatives (other than maybe not being the most aesthetically pleasing device to some people. My wife says it looks like a humidifier with a dot matrix clock on the side). Philips light therapy products have really impressed me up to this point. You see so many rip-offs and health products promising results that usually don't deliver. Just like the GoLite Blu (which still impresses me after a year of ownership), this wake-up light does what it says it will do. Of course, everyone's chemistry is different and I can't predict it will necessarily work for everyone. I just know, after four years I'm glad I no longer feel like I want to shoot straight up out of bed and cling to the ceiling by my claws like a scared cat when my super-loud alarm clock goes off in the mornings.

Be warned. I have gone through two of these in so many months and am now waiting to receive my third (under warranty for replacement but beyond the point for a cash refund). Both times the light has failed. I believe this product is inherently poorly designed and problem prone and would reinforce other reviews that say that controls are unnecessarily complicated. I enjoyed the wake up light function...while it worked (sarcasm). All I can do now is hope the third one works without problem. This product could be improved with the inclusion of a back-up battery in case of power outages, and of course correcting the electrical problem that causes the light to die prematurely.

Update: The third one malfunctioned in the same way. When Phillips Customer Service learned that it was my third malfunctioning unit they offered a replacement or a cash refund. They even admitted they were having problems with the product. I purchased the product with Amazon and it was still within the warranty period. I took the cash refund and am waiting for delivery of the check at this time.

Sleep Sheets Honey Dreams Dissovable Strips, 10 ct (Pack of 6)

Sleep Sheets Honey Dreams Dissovable Strips, 10 ctThese Sleep Sheets "Honey Dreams Dissolvable Strips" work well, especially when combined with good "bedtime habits". I regularly have difficulty getting a full night of sleep and will take an over the counter sleep aid if it goes on for more than a night or two, but generally don't like the fuzzy headiness in the morning that they tend to cause.

These Sleep Sheets are convenient because they can be left next to the bed and taken without water since they just dissolve on the tongue. The effect is fairly subtle, making you drowsy and able to drift off, without making you feel over medicated in the morning. I have also learned that it is important to avoid computer, iPod, and TV for a half hour or so before going to bed to give my brain time to calm down before trying to sleep.

The Sleep Sheets are a helpful sleep aid that works like they should!

Highly Recommended!

I have tried many over the counter sleep aides as well as prescriptions. This has been the most effective for my chemistry. As far as taste, who cares. The product dissolves quickly and doesn't leave an after taste. I suppose we would all like a hot fudge sundae flavor but please be happy with a good night's sleep.
