The reason I decided on a memory foam pad instead of a mattress that has the pad on it, I prefer to flip and rotate my mattress to extend the life of them. With a built in pad you can't flip them. A waste of money those mattresses. When you have a separate pad you can flip everything and replace things when they need it without having to buy the whole mattress again (expensive). So after searching for over a week I ordered the 4" 6.5 King Foam with the two Orthopedic contour pillows.
If you're really looking for pillows and the bed foam, order the pillows some place else. You will be very disappointed with these tiny bits of foam they call pillows. They aren't even the size of a standard pillow and the foam mattress actually has a better quality of foam than the pillows do. The pillows don't hold their shape for more than just a minute or two and then with just the weight of your head, they will be flatter than a pancake!
Now as far as the 6.5 King Foam I give that a very high rating!! It's wonderful, soft, yet firm and is like laying on a cloud. It cradles you yet gives you support. I wish I were more articulate so that I could truly let you know the wonderful nights sleep you're in store for when you sleep on this pad. I've had three surgeries on my back and now have three titanium rods in the lower area. Sleeping is hard for me because of the pain. I need something that will support me but not be to hard. This is perfect! I wanted so much to sleep on it the first day it arrived as it felt so nice to the touch. But, I waited 24 hrs as per the manufactures suggestion. It was well worth the price and the wait.
The price on this item at the time I ordered(10/06/09), was $179.99 with free shipping. It arrived via FedEx a good week before the estimated delivery! For a King sized pad that is an excellent price the best I could find anywhere. Of course if I had chosen the pad cover instead of the "cough" pillows it would have been $10 cheaper. I have to guess that the cover would have been much better than what I got! My suggestion, buy any size of the 4", 6.5 that you need, just stay away from the sad little pillows.
I recommend buying a larger than needed size. I needed a Queen, but because these pads always come smaller than what you really need, I ordered the King and cut it down to size. If they had a California King I would have ordered that, it would have been almost the exact size I would need. Strange isn't it, I always thought that California King was larger than a King. Nope. Smaller. I cut about 6" off the side, top to bottom was perfect for my Queen.
I wrote to customer support before buying, I wanted to know the density of the foam. Sadly the company they buy from doesn't give that information. Strange since most pads are judged on their density. The denser the foam, the firmer the pad. I would judge this to be around a 3.0 lb density. I am not an expert, but I have bought a few different ones over the years and this is just my opinion. Not the companies as far as density goes. This is a marvelous bargain that will enable you to enjoy blissful comfortable sleep. I've seen others of this thickness, & lower density, for 3x the price. Shipped quickly. One caveat, the pillows ARE NOT KING-SIZE so if you prefer your bed to look decoratively correct you'll still need 2 king-size pillows for display.I had already tested out a Tempurpedic both in a hotel and at the store. The price of around $3,000 for the one I wanted was a bit steep but perhaps worth it. Then, I started reading the reviews on this memory foam topper and decided to take a chance on it, mated with a new middle of the line mattress and box spring. Also, I added a top of the line mattress cover to go over the topper and mattress in order to stabilize them as a working unit. Total price for everything needed on this bedding upgrade? About $1,000 for my King Size bed.
So, with a nod to the BeeGees, how deep is your love? Meaning, how deep do you want to dig into your banking account for an excellent night's sleep? My 'love' was good at $1,000 but not worthy of coughing up the $3,000 for the King Sz Tempurpedic mattress.
Result: It's almost as good as a Tempurpedic. Seriously. If I were to give a grade based on the standard scale of 10, I'd assign a 9.5 to the Tempurpedic and an 8.0 to my customized Tempur array which of course, includes the foam mattress topper being reviewed here. Not bad. My old mattress with a down filled topper would rate a 4.5 in comparison, so the upgrade was well worth the investment. I tried the topper without the high grade mattress cover and it just didn't work out very well as the topper felt like a comforter of sorts and wandered during the night, sometimes off the mattress by a few inches. The mattress cover corrected that and I'd highly recommend same. This product arrived in 4 days! It was better than described. There was little or no odor, it only took about 15 minutes to get to its full shape, and is incredibly comfortable. The pillows were not spectacular, but as an added bonus to the mattress, I was not disappointed. This mattress was conparable to one I bought from Target and paid a whole lot more for. ( I bought this on Amazon)I noticed some people complained about the smell of this product, but after airing it out for one day, it really didn't have any smell, and I am sensitive to certain smells. We have had it for several months now, and it is still holding it's shape just fine. It is a bit warm at times as it seems to hold body heat, but it isn't too bad. It has great support and I haven't had back problems since getting this.
