My twins are 13 months old, take 1-2 naps a day & sleep in their own cribs.
The problem? One of my girls normally wakes up several times a night crying, she'll normally fall back to sleep on her own but each time she was waking up she would cry anywhere from 5-15 minutes. She isn't waking up hungry and I know her cry when something is wrong like if she doesn't feel good but she just kept waking up maybe from a bad dream or something. If we do go in there when she wakes up like this she only gets more upset because she is tired and wants to lay back down. Unfortunately I think she inherited my sleep habbits meaning that I wake up all night long for no appearant reason.
When my girls take their first nap they nap for about 2 hours. Even though they are both tired at that time there were many times when I layed them down that they would throw a fit for a while and finally fall asleep. Sometimes they would wake up after 30 minutes crying even though they are still tired and wanting to sleep.
I figured that was just how things were going to be because I had no idea they made anything like this. Thankfully I was searching for natural sleep remedies for my Dad who is also a terrible sleeper like me and I stumbled on the Sleep Balm which had several good reviews from people saying it really worked. Then I discovered there was a kid version, this Night Night Balm and I ordered it.
I got the 2oz tin which might sound like a small amount but I believe it will last a long time. I was thinking it would be more like a salve, like Vicks but I am thankful it is more like chapstick. You glide your fingers along it and it is a greasy/oily residue but it doesn't stay greasy/oily, it absorbs in.
The first night I used it when we had been running errands w/ our girls for 2 days so they were already exhausted. I rubbed this under both my girls noses and all over the tip of their nose since they had a little redness from a runny nose, I also rubbed it on their cheeks & under their chin. Both my girls seemed to enjoy this and they were sniffing it. That night both of them slept all through the night and I didn't hear a peep! But I still didn't know if they were just exhausted or if this Balm was working.
I've now been using this for several weeks, I use it at their 1st nap, IF they take a 2nd nap & before bed. Both my girls are sleeping through the night w/out a peep. And when they are laying down for their naps they are sleeping w/out waking up. My daughter that was waking up a lot would ALWAYS start crying if she woke herself up from sneezing or coughing but since using the Sleep Balm when she wakes up from a sneeze or cough she falls right back to sleep.
If you are looking for something to make your child sleepy, this is not it. As it states I don't think it would make them sleepy, I just think it is soothing and helps them stay relaxed when they are already tired.
The 3rd night we used this one of my girls woke up after being in bed for the night after about 2 hours. Why did she wake up? Because she had really bad gas and was in pain. I could tell from the sound of her cry that she didn't feel well. After some hugs, tummy rub & Gripe water I applied more Sleep Balm and she was asleep for the night.
If you have a baby or kid who is waking up a lot, I definately recommend giving this a try. It is all natural ingredients which is the ONLY reason I will use it on 1 year olds. I wish I had known about this when my girls were younger too. If your baby is waking up all the time because they don't feel well, like reflux or gas, then this probably won't work but I'd still give it a try.
My Best Friend has a daughter who just turned 1 and wakes up throughout the night and doesn't take long naps even though she is tired. I ordered her one of these when I ordered mine. She's used it several times and said she slept better but she keeps forgetting to use it so I'll give an update when she is using it more and report how it works.
IF I find that this doesn't seem to be working I will post an update. IF I do NOT post an update about this not working, consider that this stuff works WONDERFULLY for helping my girls get a Good, Uninterrupted Nights Sleep. And I am going to try the Sleep Balm for myself.
You can buy these at Cracker Barrel too. I ordered the first ones off of Amazon but we were just in a Cracker Barrel that had these on sale and we got several of them.
**I also can NOT stress enough how important it is to establish a routine with your baby. My girls lay down for their 1st nap around 11am, their 2nd nap around 4pm and for the night at 8pm. This is their daily routine and it works perfectly. There is always something special about little ones drifting off to sleep, and when it doesn't happen easily, routines are thrown off and Mommy isn't happy.
I bought this for my daughter to try on her toddler twins, I told her to call it Sleepy Cream (!) and it worked very well!
I have the Badger Balm adult version, Badger Sleep Balm, and it never fails me......within a few minutes, I'm off to Dreamland.
The entire Badger line is wonderful, don't ever hesitate to try it!I love this and all Badger products. I use this on my daughter every day along with the Baby Balm. We have been using this since she was 3 months old when I first discovered it. She has eczema and so far this is the only product out of many I have tried that helps her eczema. I love the smell and now it is her cue that it is time to go to sleep.I'm not even sure what to say about this. Based on the raving reviews on how great this product was, I decided to buy it. At the time my son was 4 months old, and would wake up for any reason; pacifier out, blanket under him, readjust, uncomfortable, etc.) I'd liberally rub this around his chin, cheeks, nose, any where I felt it would last without him rubbing it off while he slept. Although it relaxed him more, it's not a miracle worker (as others describe it to be, albeit everyone is different-including children). It's been a solid 6 months since I've had this and still no luck. It's a relaxing, calming scent that wears off overnight and has no real effect.I love all Badger products and this does not disappoint. It has a lovely scent. I try to use it for nap time and bed time, it's a great balm for chapped cheeks and noses. I wouldn't say that it helps my daughter sleep, but it does add something nice to the bedtime routine.
