Neuro Optimizer by Jarrow - 120 Capsules

Jarrow Formulas Neuro Optimizer, 120 CapsulesMy wife has early onset Alzheimer's (55) and is taking Aricept, Namenda and Zoloft, along with an allergy medication and a bunch of nutrients. The drugs seem to make her sleepy and for 6 months, she frequently would sleep til noon or 1 o'clock. I started giving her Neuro Optimizer 2 weeks ago and since the very first night, she has gotten up before 9:30 A.M. every day but one. She says her quality of life is much better and we have actually been able to accomplish some cleaning and organizing around the house. I can't say for certain that I see any cognitive improvement yet (only two weeks), but concidering the disease she is fighting, staying the same would be an improvement. Many of the nutrients I was giving her before are in this formula, so this is a lot easier to administer than all the pills I was giving her last year. Even though the nutrients were helping her then, we had to cut back because she was balking at taking so many pills, so hopefully this formula will help her regain some of the cognitivefunction she has lost over the last 6 months.

It would be worth it, even if it just helped her energy level like it has the last two weeks! However, since it is not a stimulant, like another reviewer seemed to think, I believe there must be an increase in brain metabolism, as advertised, which would account for the improvements we have seen.

Hope this helps someone else.

I rate this product so highly because I have experimented for a while for help with my son's ADHD. This product does not solve the whole problem, but it is one element of success. It helps to reduce anxiety and bring about an overall calm and together-mindedness. It does not provide the mental connected and quick decision making that a stimulant does, though. I use it in conjunction with a mild (20 mg) dose of Vyvanse. Before now, I would only give the Vyvanse to my son reluctantly, 1-2 days a week. I had to add a multi-vitamin and liquid concoction of greens powder, b vitamins, and alpha lipoic acid to try and get something in the bloodstream to diminish the agitation and general raw existance that Vyvanse would give. Vyvanse makes my son high and talk fast and become very edgy and irritated easily, but he can respond quicker to his social environment and generally try to be on task with requests. Vyvanse would also give him enough mental clarity to make decisions before they would be made for him. He would have the opportunity for better social interaction and self direction and control. Vyvanse makes him talk too much though, and sometimes without time for mental filters to be in control, he would say inappropriate things and still be off task at school. With Neuro Optimizer, I saw a noticeable benefit on the first day of use (4 tablets). He now appears natural and balanced, not edgy. The optimizer alone (even with nutritional supplements) does not deliver the overall mental clarity and connectedness that a stimulant does, though. But, it makes Vyvanse more bearable and now we dose with both everyday because the result is phenominal. We only need 20 mg of Vyvanse because I have never fully subscribed to amphetamines for kids and I find that with patience and behavioral training from any loving, firm and available source, drug dosage can be modest. My son is 14 and 165 pounds, so he is really full grown on the outside, but he is very sensitive to any drug or supplement and shows signs of impact immediately. He is very off-task and extremely hard to motivate; but, I see help with Neuro-Optimizer.

For those interested in more information that I have found on natural supplements. Read further:

The Choline, Phospho??, Taurine, and Alpha Lipoic Acid formulations, as found in Neuro Optimizer, do nourish the brain cells and seem to be building healthy blood. They do penetrate the brain barrier immediately, just as documented in studies. So, Jarrow's formulation does provide this mental balance, but not the connected social response and clarity that a stimulant does.

We use Gaia Sound Sleep occasionally for restlessness and I notice that the passion flower in this formulation boosts mental clarity like an amphetamine for about 30 minutes before inducing sound sleep from the Valerian and Kava Kava additive. Because of this, I will try Gaia Mental Alertness with Neuro Optimizer in order continue to try and find a replacement for Vyvanse. Passion Flower is a pre-cursor for Vinpocetene, which is found in Mental Alertness from Gaia. One of the other reviewers stated that Vinpocetene seems to work well with Neuro Optimizer. I think I know why it would, from my light experience with Sound Sleep.

With Sound Sleep, we can do Math homework fluently just before going to bed. The cognition kicks in quite smoothly within minutes of taking the sleep aid and last about 30 -40 minutes. This could be why some people say that Sound Sleep did not work for them but instead kept them up all night. It wakes you up to clear you mind before it sends you to sleep. We must remember too, "those who walk in darkness will see a great light." Meaning those who really have a pronounced problem will really notice when a solution is presented.

I took the Neuro Optimizer for myself (I test all of my sons drugs on me) and felt no effects on mental clarity, because I don't have much of a problem in this area. BUT, I did feel the itchy numb feeling across the back of my head with the first day of dose (4 pills). So, it is doing something effectively with the brain. It went straight to the back of my head.

I have introduced Brahmi with Ashwaganda (Bacopa) as an evening supplement after my son returns home from school. It does provide lasting support for the time released Vyvanse. And it adds a relaxation and mental connectness for evening work. I think the Neuro Optimizer is relatively still effective by evening because I think it is more of a supplement that is a lifelong investment in good brain health. So, I don't notice that is is just "gone" by evening, but Vyvanse is strong and it interferes with sleep and it is time released, so I use something cheap like Brahmi to continue to break down stress and oppositional occurrences. Brahmi (Bacopa) works like Vinpocetene would, I think. You can get Brahmi with Gingko and with out Ashwaganda, as I think Ashwaganda may not be advisable for long-term use. Gingko may thin blood though (??)

So, Choline formulas nourish, Vinpocetene and Brahmi stimulate. I am using the Planetary Formulas brand of Brahmi. I can not really vouch for is total effectiveness because I have not isolated its use. I will do more testing in summer with my son. Right now, Neuro Optimizer and Vyvanse (20mg) is working too well to let go of the solution. My son does not even fight now to take his morning supplements (8 nutrient caps and liquid vitamins + Vyvanse) because he sees the "light" and loves his new life. He struggled with just Vyvanse alone and he was a very hard to manage person at night and in morning. Mornings are still bad, but the sooner we get the pills in, the better.

Once I find and effective replacement for Vyvanse, I think we will finally be home free. Naturopathy is the way. Oh and let me add, we started all of this regimen off with an Ultra Cleansing System formula for about 2 weeks. (Colon Cleansing and whole body cleansing with am and pm pills including Burdock Root, Yellow Dock, Milk Thistle and possible Beet) This cleared his acne immediately and gave us more control there as well. We have to go back on a regular cleansing process to keep the acne at bay and ensure we are elliminating the Vyvanse by product from the blood stream. Natural health does work. I am so happy that I finally have time to study this and get help.

Hope this helps anyone struggling with children with ADHD or mild autistic spectrum disorders.

I took these Neuro Optimizer tablets not really expecting much. You know how claims are always overblown. Well, I took these tablets and found that they actually do help my mental clarity throughout the day. They don't work perfectly, but their is a substantial difference on the days I don't take them. I struggle with poor memory and attention span, and I'm glad this stuff is on the market. I think it's the phosphatidylserine that makes the difference.

I noticed an immediate improvement in my mental alertness. Memory is improved too, although not dramatically. I think it's important to combine these pills with a cardio-vascular exercise program: hiking, swimming, elliptical machine, or similar forms of exercise. I don't know if citicoline (aka, cognizin or CDP-choline) is the helpful ingredient or if the other ingredients help too. I'm going to try some pure citicoline pills to see how it works by itself. Be aware that four neuro-optimizer pills have 300 mg. of citicoline (75 mg per pill), whereas other brands have 250 mg or 500 mg per cap (but without the other ingredients included in the neuro-optimizer).
