Forget the magnified ones. What is most essential is a tiny enough clipper to avoid getting in the way of other fingers, and LIGHT. I have tried jeweler's loupes and all kinds of magnifying gadgets to get a better view to get at those tiny fingernails, but without light, pretty much everything is useless.

This thing gets the light to the absolute right place the fingernail.

The only downside is that the battery is not replaceable. But in all fairness, LEDs consume so little power anyway, that I reckon my tot wouldn't need the lighted ones by the time the battery runs out.

And no, given my requirement for instant gratification, and the fact that the product wasn't directly sold by Amazon, I went to that toy store chain which also runs a baby store chain.

I am a super plain jane and after 5 babies I have "gear" down to a fine art. That was until I asked my lovely husband to pick up a pair of clippers for our newest Little Flower. I rolled my eyes and made a snide remark about how "only you could find a nail clipper that needs batteries!" The very first time I tried these clippers I knew how wrong I had been. These clippers are awesome! I read the previous reviews that mentioned the extra plastic making it hard to cut. That is true more in the tiny little nibblet toes but the light more than makes up for it. I have been using these 1-2 times per week for 6 months and have NEVER knicked the baby. As far as I'm concerned these are a must have and with 5 kids I am an authority :)

I bought these clippers last summer as part of a baby shower gift, and decided to keep them for myself. My biggest issue with clipping my daughters nails has always been seeing exactly where I could clip to without getting her skin. These clippers illuminate the nail so nicely you can use them in dim lighting with no problems, which works great on my newborn when he is sleeping! Love love love these clippers!

I was initially excited about these clippers until I actually tried using it. The two main problems are the LED lights and the plastic guards on the sides of the cutting surface. While they both sound like positives, in practice they actually make the clippers much harder to use. The LEDs are really bright. So instead of providing lighting, what they do is burn little spots in my vision making it harder to see. As some of the other comments said, the plastic guards on the sides actually get in the way and make placing the clippers in a precise location much harder.
