Over the last two years or so, I've been looking for supplements that actually work for me. Hardly any of them have worked noticeably at all, yet I ended up spending quite a bit. However, with this, I'm definitely noticing effects that are both strong and consistent!

I was first interested in 5HTP after reading a book about supplements that aid in achieving lucidity in dreams. The author said that taking 5HTP would improve quality of sleep AND help you fall asleep when taking other lucidity supplements such as Galantamine. The book speaks the truth!

I used to have problems falling asleep after taking Galantamine (stimulant), but taking 100 mg of 5HTP about 30 minutes before I go to bed works magically. Faster then I can say Alakazam my pillow is being drowned in slobber and I'm off prancing in lalaland. I wonder if this stuff comes from the Sandman himself! ( but don't sprinkle in your eyes folks, take it orally with some water). For all you insomniacs out there, I would absolutely give 5HTP a go.

Besides being great for the amateur oneironaut (cool word, look it up), I also noticed that on nights when I don't try to achieve lucidity, I take it anyways because I wake up feeling more refreshed and in a better mood! So for people who wake up feeling anxious or sour, I recommend 5HTP. I haven't tried taking this in the morning of afternoon, but I've heard this works great in calming people down, which I have no doubt believing.

I first tried 5-HTP a few years ago and did not notice any benefit at all. It was in a pill form, but I forget the brand because it was a few years ago. So I pretty much thought 5-HTP had little to no effect, or at least did not work for me. Until I tried 5-HTP from Liftmode. I noticed a slight mood improvement. I did like it, but the effects were still minimal, but decent. I do not think I will get this again but that does not mean it is not a good product. Personally, I like to minimize the supplements I put into my body, but I wanted to give 5-HTP another chance. Liftmode always has a solid product, so I figured if any 5-HTP was going to work it would be Liftmode's and I was correct. If you are looking something that will give you a slight yet noticeable mood enhancement and hunger control, this is a great option in my opinion. It really did help control my hunger, and maybe I will decide to use it in the future, but for now this will go on a shelf.

This is the second product I was given as a sample in exchange for an honest review. I usually in the past used 5htp from NOW in capsulated 100mg dosages but with the price being prohibitively expensive for long term use, I wanted to try a cheaper bulk supplier since I find great benefit in regularly giving my serotonin levels a boost (as an aside, ALWAYS TAKE EGCG WITH YOUR 5HTP, otherwise it has little chance at gettngn past the blood brain barrier where its really needed.). Kingsley Sleep Masque, Dusty Pink Satin and Black Lace

This sleep mask is sub par at best. I have great difficulty sleeping, but I found that if I use a sleep mask, it kind of tells my brain to shut off. I decided to try this one because it looks cute in the picture and I thought it might give me that feeling of "luxury". Guess again. I mean, it's thin, cheap, and not very comfortable. I think if it was a little thicker it might be better.

I ordered this Mask because i have Insomnia and need to block out all lighting. This mask is ok but it doesn't have a black lining on the inside of the mask so it really doesn't block out the light like I'd expected. Sorry i won't be buying this one again.

Path to Relaxation

First and foremost I heard about this CD from a family member who used it extensively they work with the Marines and found it very helpful for a variety of conditions including anxiety, sleeplessness, and anger. I was skeptical at first because I had never heard of guided imagery and wasn't sure about falling to sleep with music in my ears.

I am VERY glad that during both hard times and great times I have had this CD now burned to my IPOD (DRM FREE EVERYONE!!) to ground me. It consists of two tracks one that has the guided imagery. I liked the voice on the track when I'm feeling the most stressed it guides you through a green Oasis. However, more recently I only listen to the music and imagine my own "happy place."

I only hope Dr. Wolf makes another guided imagery in the future!

I have to use this every night now because I can't sleep without it. If I know I"m a little extra stressed I can take an extra one with no grogginess in the morning. I love that 5 htp is already in it. I fall asleep easily, always have, but have trouble with the 3:00-5:00 hours! This has made a dramatic difference for me. Even if I do wake up, if I take one I can get back to sleep.

I think these work "okay". I do feel like I sleep better and I don't wake up feeling groggy or "hungover", which is a problem with some sleep aids. My big issue with this product is that the capsules smell horrible. I have to hold my breath from the time I open the bottle until I wash down the capsule they smell so disgusting. This is a natural sleep aid that really does work but...you can get the exact same effect by taking plain melatonin which costs $10.00 or less. I have used both and the plain melatonin actually works faster and more effectively because I actually stay asleep through the night. A lot of prescription sleep medications don't work as well as these do.Also you may need 4 capsules a night.

Air Sleep and Snore Advanced Nasal Breathing Aid, 12 Count

Picked up at Walgreens. I actually came to amazon to see if they sold these in something other than a 12 pack or if there were other scents. I am going to be grabbing one of the decongestant and head ache ones.

Pros

Easy to use and comfortable

Essential oils are actually pleasant

Increases air flow (or it might seem that way from oils, I dont know.... either way it seems that airflow is better)

Decreases the intensity of my snore (per the wife)

Cons

One of every three nights it will come out sometime while I sleep. No idea when it comes out.

I purchased these in a Walgreens as an alternative to Breathe Right nasal strips (thought I'd try something internal instead of external) and I had to remove the little nasal clip after a couple hours due to waking up with horrible congestion and worse breathing. Once I removed the clip I blew my nose and had a lot of blood and discomfort.

I don't recommend these stupid things to anyone. It made breathing so much harder!

I have been trying these for a week now and I am regretting the purchase. While the device is quite comfortable to wear I find it does little to open the nasal passages at all. In fact the device seems to potentially reduce the size of the passage way. Additionally each morning I have woken up with the device loose in my bed. If you toss and turn like I do I would not expect this to be terribly useful. Perhaps this device would work better for someone with smaller nasal passageways. Otherwise perhaps a larger size would be needed.

BioBrite Sunrise Clock EZ Wake, Sea Green

I bought this alarm clock about 2 weeks ago. I heard of it awhile ago, but I was turned off by the price. (By the way, I got it for about $50, not $89. I don't know why the price went up!) I bought the clock because I have to get up at about 5:30 am, and it's getting tough now that it's October and pitch dark at that hour.

When the clock arrived, I had doubts. It's pretty basic, and the instructions are a LITTLE confusing. Plus, I set it for 10 minutes into the future -curious to see the "sunrise" -but nothing happened except the "beep, beep" at the time I'd set. (Maybe it doesn't work unless you set it for more than 30 mins into the future). So, I set a back up alarm that first night and hoped for the best, saving the packaging in case I needed to return it.

Anyhoo, that first morning, while sleeping, I suddenly became aware of a light. The light got slowly brighter and I opened my eyes. At the set time, the clock gently "beep, beep -beep, beeped" but I was already wide awake and actually READY to get up. Yes, it's true.

I used to spend 30 minutes pressing snooze, trying to pry myself out of a deep sleep. Now, I'm usually awake before the beep, and it's gradual and gentle. No pain!

I would recommend this alarm clock, but I would recommend trying to get it for more like $50, not $90 if that's possible.

One caveat: The alarm clock does wake up my husband, and he finds it kind of annoying. Oh well, I guess that's love. :)

you might want to try this. I own a much older version of this clock purchased in 1996, to be exact when I first started experiencing the lethargy/excessive sleep patterns associated with SAD. We lived in Germany at the time, I was in the Army, and it was absolutely critical I drag myself out of bed by 5:00am to make it to my first formation. Long story (14 years!) short, I cannot live without this clock. So much so that I am purchasing a second clock because I AM living apart from the original. It's in Minnesota with my husband, who refuses to give it up! We're doing the commuter thing I'm living in DC for now, and struggling more every day to pull myself out of bed. I've used both the sunset and sunrise features; it is bright enough to read by in the beginning (the whole point is the "sun goes down")and is bright enough to wake you in the morning. I also love that the alarm is gentle, so you wake up peacefully without the jarring nerve splitting shreak of regular alarms. Lastly, BioBrite is an awesome company to deal with. They are great when you have questions mine periodically loses its sunrise funtion but it just needs to be reset (unplug, wait 24 hours, plug it back in). I found that out when I called to order a new one, and after I described the problem, instead of taking my order they recommended I try the above procedure first.

I am returning this clock. I am not a morning person. Unfortunately, the fatal flaw for me is that the lamp gradually brightens for 30 minutes. Just after it reaches its full brightness (while I am still pushing the snooze button on my clock radio), it turns off -entirely. I then roll over and go back to sleep. This timing sequence does not support my goal of getting out of bed. Additionally, it is not bright enough, and it seemed to have the light turned on at a low level even though it was supposed to be completely off according to the clock / settings.

Instead of this clock, I purchased two LED Christmas light strings, which are inexpensive to buy at the holidays. These both provide some light, but not as shocking to the system as a regular lamp. I have put these two LED light strings on $4 timers so that they switch on, first one then the other. This is not as gradual as the sunrise clock, but it is cheaper, more reliable, and I can have the lights stay on for an hour or more until I am sure I am up.

I own two of these sunrise clocks already, and I'm getting ready to buy my third so that my daughter can get back on schedule with the early onset of Daylight Saving Time. (The two I already have are in my room and my son's room.)

I have been using BioBrite products for about 15 years and I can't tell you what a difference they have made. It's this simple: I hate getting up in the dark, and with this clock, I never have to. It's true that the time setting and alarm setting process on this clock aren't intuitive. You will have to read the instructions. But that will take you all of 2 minutes, so don't sweat it.

My daughter wanted a sleep mask to block out the nightlight her sister needs and I didn't want to spend a ton of money. When this mask arrived, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality! It is soft, thick, and well constructed. I also love that the straps are adjustable since I needed to make it fit a child's head. And my daughter loves the zebra print. It's perfect! I would like to start out by saying that my neighbors bough an outside light bulb that burns about as bright as the friggin sun itself. They never turn it off. Ever. I'm tempted to shoot it out with my son's BB gun but I think they would replace it with the actual sun. This light also happens to shine right through my bedroom window and into my eyes. Not good times at all!

So I bought this sleep mask. It's cute and surprisingly comfy for something literally strapped to your face. I use it every night and no longer dream off shooting out the neighbors light. Porcelana Night Skin Lightening Cream Facial Night Treatments

For three months, I consistently applied Porcelana's nighttime formula before bed and applied Porcelana's daytime formula, with the additional important ingredient of sunscreen, in the morning. Using both formulas, one jar of each lasted me exactly three months. Overall, I am very pleased with the final results. Most of my smaller age spots have faded or are gone but I do have darker spots that persist. A doctor recommended hydroquinone for my melasma--hormonal darkening usually caused by pregnancy, but mine just never went away after my kids were born. I know hydroquinone works for me; I used to use a product from Bath and Body works that had hydroquinone as its only active ingredient. They discontinued it, and for 4 years since I've been trying all kinds of brands and have been getting rashes. I have super sensitive skin and can get rashy just from using soap or from visiting another state where they have a different form of water treatment. I tell you... if a product can irritate, I will be the one it will irritate. I have applied Porcelana night cream 3 times, and already my brown spots are ever so slightly lighter, and there is no reddening!!!! That is amazing. I will use the night cream with my own sunblock during the day, because I read the ingredients in the day cream, and I know their sunblock ingredient would be a problem for me. I am happy with the night cream.

So I got a lot of scars from acne and I've tried everything to get rid of them or atleast lighten them. I was getting really impatient and fed up and did a little research before buying anything. This product came up and I usually like to know what ingredients are in the product to see if I have already tried another product with similar ingredients that has failed on me previously. When I looked up the ingredients for porcelana it had an ingredient called hydroquinone. So I did further research into it and there is some controversy about this specific ingredient and some type of cancer inducing effects. But a higher risk is correlated to higher percentage, and porcelana has 2% hydroquinone (which isn't bad compared to other prescribed products). I think 2% is perfect because I tried something with 4% and it really irritated my skin-the only issue is that you have to be patient because it really does take 2 weeks for you to see dramatic results, although you will see some progress a week later-but really...2 weeks is not that bad and it actually gets a lot better as time progresses and it helps with future dark spots-so if you really do want your dark spots to fade PLEASE get this product and BE PATIENT!!!!!! Another thing I noticed (I'm not sure if its correlated to me using the product or coincidence) but my acne did stop-it was weird. And if I did get a pimple or something the scars that come from that acne were little or it didn't scar at all. But now back to the ingredient hydroquinone, I talked to my dermatologist and she said that it really isn't that dangerous to a person's health but she recommends to only be exposed to it for 3 months. If you don't see anything after a month or two than the product is obviously not working and there is no need to expose yourself to more hyrodoquinone. The only bad thing is that the product is a bit greasy and sticky-but honestly, I don't really care. It does what needs to be done but its not a product you can really wear under makeup.

The type and amount of melanin synthesized by the melanocyte and its distribution pattern in the epidermis determines the actual color of the skin-different processes will cause de-pigmentation

so hydroquinone

1. one of the most effective inhibitors of melanogenesis (production of melanin-which too much in certain cells is the reason for discoloration)

2. cytotoxic to melanocytes (melanin-producing cells). This means it kills these types of cells. It is not limited to killing these cells it can kill normal cells but the amount that is needed (so the threshold) of hydroquinone for normal cells is a lot higher than the threshold of melanocytes
