Now Foods TAURINE

Now Foods Taurine 1000Mg, 100-CapsulesI am NOT A TRAINER just your average human being who has suffered from Restless Leg Syndrom for many years. I have had no alternative (UNTIL NOW) but to take Requip to tame the twitches and get some sleep. I tried this product because I noticed that when I consumed Monster Energy Drinks (especially at night) that the problem was lessened or not a problem. I did some research and concluded that it must be the taurine. I tried capsule form and this product, and not only does it eliminate the RLS problem, it really does increase metabolism, and weight loss is a great added benefit. This manufactures product really works with no side effects, at least in my case.

NOW Foods was founded in 1968 and NOW and its products have always had a good reputation in the natural food industry (I managed natural food co-ops and stores in CA in the 70's and early 80's and in the Midwest in the late 80's and early 90's).

The current price (at the time I write this) on this product is more than fair (and the price is even better if one takes advantage of Amazon's subscribe & save offer when it is available for this product).

I decided to try taurine capsules after doing a bit of research in preparation for writing a review for an energy drink that I received a sample of for review purposes. Taurine is an amino acid which is found in many if not most energy drinks and is where the energy drink Red Bull gets its name; the word "taurine" is from "taurus" (as in the astrological sign) which is Latin for ox or bull, and taurine was first isolated from ox bile in 1827. The taurine found in energy drinks and supplements today is not, however, from ox bile (or bull semen, as an urban legend has it), but is produced in laboratories.

What I learned when researching taurine is that contrary to what I expected, taurine, unlike caffeine, is not a central nervous system stimulant, but is instead said to have more of a calming, relaxing, or sedating effect. For example, referring to taurine, professor of pharmacology and anesthesiology at Columbia University Neil L. Harrison says, "Its inclusion in these supplements is a little puzzling, because our research would suggest ... [that] taurine actually would have more of a sedative effect on the brain." (Source: Cornell University Chronicle Online, "Scientists close in on taurine's activity in the brain" 2/13/08.) (According to a 2004 article in Medical News Today titled, "French ban on Red Bull (drink) upheld by European Court," Red Bull claims that taurine can "kick-start" the metabolism, which may thus be the reason it is included in so many energy drinks. The French ban on Red Bull was lifted in 2008: "The drink had been banned in France for twelve years due to health authorities' concerns about unknown consequences of the ingredient taurine, a chemical forbidden in several countries. Until now a modified version of the drink, containing caffeine but not taurine, was on sale in France." Source: Reuters article, "France ends 12-year ban on energy drink Red Bull," 7/15/08)

NOW Foods says that taurine "supports a calm mood," while acknowledging that this claim has not been evaluated by the FDA. I figured I'd buy some taurine caps and find out for myself how it might affect me in ways of which I can be subjectively aware. Before ordering taurine from Amazon I checked my local WalMart, Walgreens and CVS Pharmacy, and only CVS had taurine, and the one bottle left on the shelf was of 50 500 mg caps for around the same price of a bottle of NOW Foods 100 1000 mg caps.

1000 mg of taurine is what is found in 8 ounce servings of most of the energy drinks that contain taurine, so I figured that was the best amount to experiment with.

In my experience, taking 1000-2000 mg of taurine on an empty stomach (NOW Foods recommends taking it between meals) has a subtle yet unmistakeable calming effect on me. I've taken taurine at different times of the day without any unwanted side effects (e.g., I've never felt sedated after taking taurine).

I'm a personal trainer and recently underwent a cycle of supplements that cause muscle cramping, so I added 3g of Taurine to my nightly supplement regimen. This Taurine worked like a charm, and nixed the cramps at first use.

The caplets are rather large, but went down just fine.

I have used NOW products repeatedly, and they are always reliable.

I use this in conjuction with gensing for mental clarity and guarana for pep. The combined effect is very nice, though I think I'll try a lower dose tuarine next time. It seems like the 1000mg might be a little TOO relaxing for the work day.

Source Naturals Melatonin 3mg Vegetarian Capsules

Source Naturals Melatonin 3mg, 60 TabletsI was having a really hard time falling asleep and staying asleep following the break-up of my marriage. What can I say? There's a lot on your mind when you're going through something like that! After three months of veritably sleepless nights and utter exhaustion, I searched online for natural sleep remedies and found Source Naturals Melatonin 3mg.

This product works. I fall asleep about 30 minutes after taking it, and I stay asleep until it's time to wake up. There's no hangover or residual effects. It works like it's supposed to and then leaves you alone!

I highly recommend this product if you're having a hard time getting sleep.

I have found that I have no side effects with this brand of Melatonin. It contains no other additives and is the most pure source I have found.

I have taken other brands of Time Release Melatonin and they help me sleep till morning. This formation doesn't seem to last that long. While this might be exactly right for someone else, it did not live up to my expectations.

For almost a year, I've had sleep issues. No problem falling asleep, but I'd wake up 3 hours later and be up for the next 2-3 hours. I'd finally fall back asleep just a bit before the alarm and spend the rest of the day in a fog. It didn't matter whether I went to bed at 8:30 pm or 11pm I was still up by 1:30-2 and awake for hours. It gradually got worse and I got desperate.

A friend recommended Melatonin and I resisted at first, having tried it after our daughter was born (almost 15 years ago). The tablets I took then had some odd side effects and I only took them for a few weeks before throwing the bottle away. Now, I think I have have been taking far too high of a dose, because these 3mg tablets work great.

Be careful when you take them! I'm awake and alert for about 20 minutes and then zone out totally even in the middle of a conversation. After a couple of months, I've learned to just lay a tablet on my nightstand and take it when I'm ready to turn out the light. It works great: cured the problem of middle of the night sleeplessness. I still wake up sometimes at night, but have no trouble dropping back off to sleep. And when I wake up in the morning, I'm alert, energetic, and not already counting the hours until I can go back to bed to get a good night's sleep.

For me, this supplement would have been a good buy at twice the price and my family agrees. I'm rested, cheerful, and so happy I gave it a try.

So far, no bad side effects. In fact, no side effects at all. I am taking it daily, but considering trying it on a more limited basis because of concerns about long-term effects. Considering, but haven't done it yet because I'm so enjoying a good night's sleep that I'm afraid to tinker with success!

Although I saw results the very first night I took this, I waited to write a review just in case it was a placebo effect at work. But it's been 11 weeks and I'm confident that this product is really effective for me.

These pills are great especially for someone like me that doesn't need help staying/falling asleep often but very much so every now and then. They will knock you out and you won't wake up until the next morning but as my doctor advised me, I should only use it every once in a while because your body will diminish its own melatonin production if I use it as an everyday supplement before bed. But as a suplement itself, it does just as it is supposed to, put you to sleep like a baby! Two thumbs up!

Clear Passage Drug Free Nasal Strips, Medium, Clear, 30-Count

Clear Passage Drug Free Nasal Strips, Medium, Clear, 30-CountI am updating my prior review after further use of this product. Or disuse. The adhesive leaves significant residue on my nose, which I cannot have. I do not hate this product, but I do not want to use it on a daily basis.

These strips cling all night and keep the nasal passages open. They do not completely stop my snoring, but have diminished it significantly.

The Clear Passage brand (clear small/med size) is the best. I've tried them all. I use them during the day and at night. Any residue it may leave, wipes off easily. This product will help if used correctly. The cost is half as much as the name brand. I wish they made a box of 100 or more. Walmart is the only place I've found them. Price is very affordable.

I used Breathe Right strips for about a year. Then I found that these Clear Passage strips are more effective at opening my nasal passages and lower-priced than Breathe Right's. With both brands, I have to use witch hazel to remove oil from my skin before applying the strip, or it may not hold well. When I'm ready to remove the strip, both brands sometimes leave adhesive residue that I need to clean off. The best prices I've found for Clear Passage strips are at Walmart stores (where sold) and on Walmart's website.

Roloke Good 'N Bed Adjustable Wedge 8",12",16"

Roloke Good 'N Bed Adjustable Wedge 8',12',16'I ordered this for my husband who, due to medical reasons, cannot lay flat to sleep. This was the perfect solution and he loves this thing! It keeps him elevated and he said it is very comfortable to sleep on. I would recommend getting the cover that goes over the entire wedge, as the cover that comes with it is just a little flat thing that covers only the top. Great help for someone who can't lay flat.

This seemed like such a great idea. The concept is good but they are very cheaply made for the money that I paid and uncomfortable.

Onyix Silicone Sleep Shield - 11112

Onyix Silicone Sleep Shield - 11112I have had a cpap machine for a few years now. I recently got a new bed and pillows. I believe these things were causing me to sleep at an angle that was causing my mask to leak. I was waking up in the morning with sore eyes and a twitching in my left eye, that was lasting all day. I tried tightening my mask to the point it was causing red lines on my face for hours after waking up. It didn't help

I've used this product for a week now and my eyes are no longer sore in the morning and the twitching has stopped.

The band and goggles are really thin, they fit right into my sockets as almost another eyelid. I had no problem fitting my nose only mask over the goggles.

During the summer I would sweat underneath this thing. My eye lids and bags under my eyes got really puffy. It was sore and itchy. I had to stop using it.

This is a very important product for someone with dry eyes. The silicone shield creates a moisture barrier, keeping the eyes moist through the night. I used to wake up with my eyes sore due to my eye condition. This product is a great source of relief without having to use additional eyedrops. I recommend it to anyone suffering from dry eye.

I have been using these masks for over a year. I have a dry eye condition caused by the face my left eye does not close all the way. Using a standard fabric mask did not help at all .... it exasperated the problem The mask would move and the fabric would touch my eye making it even dryer and very painful. The silicone mask works great, the only problem is the strap becomes stretched out and needs replaced. They do wear out. I have 2 that I alternate. I will purchase more.

ok, so this eye cover is very dark.

the major downsides though are twofold. I am a side sleeper, so the mask leaves these deep impressions on the side of my face, lasting most of the day. the second issue is that since it is silicone it does not breathe like fabric. I never knew that eyelids could sweat. since this mask does not allow natural evaporation, your eyelids become uncomfortablely sweaty. I used it for a brief time, but I went back to my prior mask, the Sleep Master, also available on amazon.com. I work nights, so this is a big deal for me.

Bare Escentuals bareVitamins Eye Rev-er Upper

Bare Escentuals Barevitamins Eye Rev-Er UpperThis product really does brighten your eyes and when used with the eye powder, amazing! Worth the money!

I wasn't really sure what I was getting, so I was mildly disappointed it did not give me that tightened eye-area feeling, but it does add some hydration and mild shimmer to the eye area. I put it on the first time before work, and it didn't seem to make a difference, but I often work two jobs, going directly from one to the other. I like to touch up my makeup before the second job, and this is where it does make a real difference! It adds something without being obviously makeup-y that look fresh and bright. Now I pack it with my touch up makeup so I can look fresh when I arrive at my second job!

Conair Big Curl Foam Rollers, 9 Count

Conair Big Curl Foam Rollers, 9 CountThese curlers are like the ones mom used on us 20 years ago... only bigger. I've used them twice, this time (shown in pictures) with mousse, damp hair rolled overnight, shook curls out with my head upside down, and used a teeny bit of bed head "after party" to tame the fly-aways.

I got many compliments on my hair today so I'm pleased, but not overwhelmed. I like being able to curl my hair without heat, it's very easy to use. If your hair gets snagged in a roller, just remove the plastic insert clip and the roller falls right out without tangles.

The Cons: slight indentions where the bar crosses over the roller to hold it in place. Not real noticeable once you've fixed your hair but it's price you pay for an easy & economical system.

I like the bouncy curls, so did my husband and my friends. I bought the rollers for an upcoming beach vacation. I knew I'd be showering at night after the being out all day, and didn't want crazy hair in the morning so I plan to sleep in rollers. Last night while testing these rollers, I positioned them away from the side of my head I tend to lie on and the curls still came out great and I slept fine.

If you want to save your hear from the abuse of very hot curling irons for a while, you've got to give Conair Big Curl Foam Rollers a try! They are just like the foam rollers that were around when I was a kid, but much larger.

For me, the best way to use them is on already dry hair. (Unless you're planning on sitting under a bonnet dryer, which is kind of inconvenient.) Section off your hair, start wrapping from the middle of the section, and be sure to use enough tension in your wrapping to give your curl some bounce.

Depending on your hair type and the look you are going for, you might want to use gel or balm after shampooing. One way to make the curl take faster is to aim your hairdryer on each rolled section just long enough to warm it up. As the hair cools, you're getting some nice curl and wave. The longer you leave them in, of course, the tighter the curl will be.

Personally, I really don't recommend these for use on wet or damp hair, because it will take forever to dry wrapped up in foam rollers. A great way to use them is just placed strategically in your hair to refresh your style that's going limp from your previous styling. You just have to experiment with them to get the perfect effect that you'd like! After you try them, you'll probably want a second pack to make narrower sections.

I absolutely love these rollers!

I have bone straight, layered Asian hair down to the middle of my back, and these curlers do create some long lasting curls without damaging heat. Due to the thickness and length of my hair, I bought an extra pack and used all of them, but initially I got some fairly impressive results with a single pack, though they were waves more than curls and didn't last quite as long.

To use them, I section off almost-dry hair (damp hair doesn't dry out very well, even overnight), spritz it with touch of hairspray, and roll the hair up to my scalp. I then put a slumber cap over the whole mess (it amazingly fits over my giant head and 18 large rollers) and sleep in it. I've tried this without the slumber cap and found it to be pretty essential, as the rollers will sometimes come undone and then I'm left with a few straight locks of hair. While it's a long reach to call these "comfortable" to sleep in, it is possible and a few well placed squishy pillows will help.

In the morning, I'll carefully unroll them, shake out the curls and comb them lightly through with my fingers, and finish with a little more hairspray. If I get a lock or two of hair that was a bit too damp take the curl, I generally just touch those up with a curling iron. It rarely happens, but it's an easy fix. I get BIG, voluminous hair in the mornings, and at the end of the day it mellows out to a very full, wavy style much like one would get if one spent an hour curling their hair with a flat iron(to get those stylish "beach waves" look that's popular in Hollywood now.)

These rollers are a lot more comfortable to sleep in then hard rollers and gave me the style I wanted. But only nine rollers come in the pack. The rollers are large but it still wasn't enough for all my hair. I don't have long thick hair and found that I could have used at least five extra so you may want to order a extra pack. I guess you could put a lot more hair on each roller but then it wouldn't be completely dry by morning and I don't have time for that.

  • A high quality product that meets pharmaceutical standards
  • Tested for consistency, quality and potency
  • The highest quality herbal, vitamin, mineral, and nutritional supplements worldwide

I ran across this particular blend when I was in graduate school and was having problems sleeping. For me, the fact that this melatonin is blended with ginseng is what seems to make it effective. I have tried a number of other sleep aids and none of them work quite as well as this one. I remember one time in particular I tried to save some money and buy straight melatonin. Long story short, I threw the bottle away. While this isn't the kind of sleep aid that knocks you out, it does (I found after doing a little research) extend your REM pattern (I believe that is the theta level of sleep) so that you feel much more rested in much less time. I have been using this product for almost 20 years now and I am so glad that Amazon carries it so that I don't have to have a friend of a friend ship me a couple bottles. If straight melatonin is enough for you, count yourself lucky, but if your sleep problems are more serious, give this a try for a few days and see what I'm talking about.

Kneipp Melissa Herbal Bath (Stress Relief) (3.4 oz.)

Kneipp Melissa Herbal BathI've never used this stuff, but my wife swears by it. She started using it studying for the bar exam, which, as you may have heard, is highly stressful. She took nightly baths with this oil, and says it was the only thing that got her to sleep.

I'll also say that this stuff has a very strong herbal smell. Its not necessarily an inviting smell, although it's not bad, either. Sort of like freshly cut grass. Don't be ordering this if you're expecting it to smell like flowers.

also this product is very high quality. The essence is very concentrated. We've ordered tons of it, and its very consistent.

Mally Beauty Light Wand Eye Brightener, Vermeil

Mally Beauty Light Wand Eye Brightener, VermeilI carry this with me everywhere I go. It really opens up my eyes and makes me look rested. At first, I had a problem with the powder coming out when I applied to the second eye, but soon figured out that if you replace the cap and gently tap it, the wand will release more powder. I used to highlight the inner corner of my eyes with a similar colored eyeshadow, but this product is more vibrant and stays on a lot longer. Thanks Mally!

Best product ever. Like magic. I still can't believe how it transforms tired eyes. Amazing. This is a must in my cosmetic bag at all times. It's the only thing that can virtually bring my eyes back to life. The best thing out it? it's subtle, not obvious. It doesn't looke like obvious makeup that you're trying to use to hide imperfections. Thanks Mally.

L'Oreal Paris EverStrong Overnight Treatment, 3.4-Fluid Ounce

L'Oreal Paris EverStrong Overnight Treatment, 3.4-Fluid OunceI have long, fine hair that tends to get dry. Only recently have I been really committed to keeping my hair healthy; I want to try growing my hair out really long! I use frequent deep conditioners, leave-in treatments and try to use heat-stylers as infrequently as possible. Not gonna lie, this product got my attention because of Evangeline Lily (I'm a big Lostie!) I thought I'd give the shampoo and conditioner a try, and they were ok, but not the best. THIS, however! If you are trying to give your hair a big boost of moisture and health, do yourself a favor and give the overnight treatment a try. Here were the best things I noticed about it:

1. My ends felt so soft and healthy after one night that I changed my mind about needing to go for a haircut. If you're trying to grow out your hair, you want to get as few cuts as possible, right? Here you goadd a few months of growing between cuts.

2. My hair actually felt heavier, even after washing and drying the next day. I could literally tell the difference in moisture absorbed by weight! It meant a noticeable difference in flyaways, and my fine hair still felt styled hours after I was done drying it.

3. I was very skeptical about how a product this intense wouldn't feel oily, but it really doesn't. I put the product in my hair a few hours before bed, but it was totally absorbed in minutesa little bit of a "gunked up" feeling while the product was actually on, but not oily. I just put my hair in a braid to keep it out of the way, and to not feel 'unbathed.'

I will say that you'll probably need more than the recommended 1-2 pumps. My hair is long enough that I can tuck it under my arms, and I use between 6-8 pumps. Otherwise, nothing but good to say about this awesome product! Enjoy your new hair!

I admit I purchased this product to try out and didn't have super high expectations despite the reviews. I tried it the first night expecting that it would be greasy, leave residue on my pillow, make me uncomfortable while I slept and then disappoint me in the morning. Boy! Was I in for a NICE surprise! My hair is processed and was very dry so I ended up using four pumps because the first two just seemed to get sucked into my hair that quick. My hair DID NOT feel oily or greasy at all which really surprised me. The product had a pleasant coconut fragrance which is one of my favorites. I slept like a baby and there was no residue on my pillow. The next day my hair felt so silky. It made the biggest single difference of any product I have used in years besides my "It's A 10-miracle leave in product" which I use to mitigate heat damage while styling my hair. I think L'Oreal has another really BIG WINNER with their EverStrong Overnight Treatment. An added benefit: I didn't rinse my hands after applying the overnight product. Instead, I rubbed it in like a hand lotion and went to bed. My hands felt nice and soft too and were not the least bit greasy.

I purchased and started using this approximately 3 weeks ago. I apply it every night before going to bed. The results have been spectacular. I had a bad hair dye incident a few months ago which resulted in lots of split ends and breakage. After using this product I find that I have less split ends and my hair is a lot smoother. Also, a lot less breakage. Although this is somewhat pricey for its size, I will definitely purchase this again.

I have long, fine hair that was once very thick. Due to improper hair care, and bad hair habits I tend to "shed" a lot. I purchased this product hoping it would help with the split ends I have because of over use with heated styling tools. Although it has not helped my split ends, it has made my hair look very shiny and munch more manageable in the mornings. Additionally my hair is shedding less.

I have a VERY difficult time working this through my hair to get an even application on split ends and damaged hair. The product tends to glob and concentrate in certain sections, which does not allow for easy or even treatment of the effected areas.

I was a classic too-manly-for-hair-care male until I recently resolved (out of either vanity or self-respect, or maybe both) to start attending more carefully to my health/appearance/grooming. Hair is, of course, at the front line of that battle, so I interrogated some professional hair people and did some Internet browsing and learned that hair care is only partly a matter of what products you use. Healthy hair is also the result of things like drinking water and eating right and avoiding excessive sun or heat. Hair is, in fact, the most reliable indicator of whether a person is healthy. (See the Wikipedia page on "hair care," for starters.) And I learned that when it comes to hair products, I should look for ones that say "hydrating." (This as opposed to "moisturizing," which merely gives the appearance of hydration.) That's because hydrated hair is pretty much what healthy hair *is.*

I then spent a decent (if not ridiculous) amount of time browsing Amazon's hydrating hair products and reading the reviews, and then I experimented with 5 different, relatively inexpensive products.

The bottom line is that none of the 5 products are magical but I have noticed a mild to moderate improvement in shine, darkness, and thickness. (If you have recommendations for a near-magical product, I'm counting on you to let me know.) Given what I've seen from the different products, I will probably settle into a routine of using a small amount of the Frieda shampoo and conditioner daily, and then using an overnight treatment maybe once a month (but probably not this one).

That doesn't mean I recommend (or don't) any of these products for you. Another thing I learned while researching hair is that we are all unique little flowers with very different filaments on our noggins that respond differently to different things. So rather than recommending a particular product, I recommend that you do some trials and see what works for you.

Below is a detailed review of each product.

* L'Oreal EverStrong Overnight Treatment (My rating: 2.5 stars) (Current price: $1.76/ounce) I have only used it a few times but haven't noticed anything magical. You apply it to dry hair at night, work it through the ends, and then sleep with your hair in a mildly goopy state. I didn't check carefully, but I would be surprised if your hair doesn't leave a mark on your pillowcase. And it takes a lot of goop, even for a guy with reasonably short hair like me. Maybe it would be worth it if it gave my hair a brilliant luster or thickness, but it doesn't seem to do much at all, at least not above what the shampoo and conditioner are already doing. I am unlikely to get it again.

* John Frieda Frizz-Ease Shampoo (4.3 stars) ($0.60/ounce) It works noticeably better than my old shampoo (Aussie Smooth). With this shampoo, my hair stays wet after a shower about 40% longer and it retains a subtle moisture all day. After a shower, when I comb my wet hair, I can hardly even feel it because there is so little resistance against the comb. In other words, my hair becomes a weird combination of wet and airy. The shampoo seems to work best when I leave it in for a minute or two before rinsing. I only need to use about a nickel-sized amount (I have medium-to-shaggy hair). It has a scent that is a little too much like a household cleaning product, but it's a faint smell and goes away after the shower.

* John Frieda Frizz-Ease Conditioner (3.8 stars) ($0.54/ounce) If the shampoo does most of the moisturizing "work," then the conditioner seems kind of like the sealant to lock it in and protect it all day, and to make your hair more "manageable." This conditioner does that job well enough but I only use a little bit of it because it makes my hair a little too helmet-y for my liking. Maybe you like that from a conditioner--I don't. I prefer that my hair move in the breeze. This conditioner would probably have a more desirable effect for people with long (at least shoulder-length) hair. As for the scent, I would describe it as "neutral."

* L'Oreal Everstrong Conditioner (3.2 stars) ($0.66/ounce) This seems to have the same effect as the Frieda conditioner, except that it makes my hair even slightly more helmet-y. Also, it has an initially-strong scent that faintly lingers in my hair all day, even when I only use a dime-sized amount. It's a smell that I would describe as endurable but not pleasant.

* Paul Mitchell leave-in conditioner (3.0 stars) ($1.03/ounce) My second-biggest complaint with this product is that it is sort of annoying to apply after the shower, you have to dab a few blotches of it onto your damp hair and then brush it through. My biggest complaint is that it doesn't seem to be doing anything beyond what the other conditioners do. It works well enough and makes my hair nice and dark and helmet-y but so do the other conditioners. Plus, I don't think it's doing much to make my hair healthier because you only apply it to the end of the hair and not to the scalp. That means it also requires a good amount of the blue gel to work it through all of your hair.

---

P.S. Many of these same products are probably available at your local Wal-Mart (or whatever), and probably for a 10-25% lower price.

P.P.S. A couple years ago, I experimented with using no hair products at all... for months. I had read some caveman-y theories about how hair products damage our hair because they crowd out the natural moisturizing chemicals and blah blah. All I can say is that it didn't work for me. It's true that my hair during those months was surprisingly less nappy and gross than I expected, and it's maybe even true that the artificial chemicals we put on our scalps have some serious, unwelcome consequences, but all I can say is that I much prefer how my hair looks and feels after it's been shampooed, to the point that I'm willing to take whatever risks those chemicals may pose.

Hearos Ultimate Softness Series Ear Plugs, 5-Pair (Pack of 6)

Hearos Ultimate Softness Series Ear Plugs, 5-PairI picked up a single pack of these from the `mart last month for a flight. This was going to be a longer flight and I wanted to try to get some sleep in on the way. I usually sit in the exit row for extra leg room but it is also as close to the engines as you can get. Per each pack, these are comparably priced to what you could pick them up locally, but notice you are getting about 30 pairs for currently around $9 so they break down to $0.30 each, not that bad.

These really are incredibly soft and comfortable and after a couple moments of having them in you forget you are using them. Simply roll it up, stick it in your ear and it expands creating a good sound barrier. You won't get complete silence, for that get noises cancelling headphones, but for the flying, these are much better than what the airlines could ever give you and perform well. The package states these have a 32 decibel noise reduction rating. Although this is a multi-pack, you can easily find this brand at most big box stores locally for roughly the same price. Good product and very satisfied with the results.

Air-O-Swiss AOS 7135 Ultrasonic Humidifier - Warm and Cool Mist

Air-O-Swiss AOS 7135 Ultrasonic Humidifier - Warm and Cool MistI went to a local Bed Bath and Beyond to find silent or near silent humidifier. Salesman introduced this Air-O-Swiss as the best machine on market. He added Venta-Sonic does the same job but costs $50 less, and all other brands can't compare. I bought both units to compare. Air-O-Swiss is a clear winner, hands down.

The two machines sat side-by-side. It's clear immediately to everyone that Air-O-Swiss is quieter. Even at highest setting, Air-O-Swiss' noise level and frequency are lower than Venta-Sonic's, and they blend nicely into background. They don't give me headaches as Venta-Sonic. At lower settings, Air-O-Swiss can be virtually silent. With Air-O-Swiss on, I slept very well. The next night was Venta night. Unfortunately, the base machine noise was just as bad as the first unit that I returned earlier for noise problems. I tried to go to sleep with it on but after a few hours, headaches and agitation from the noise made me shut it off and switch on Air-O-Swiss and slept through afterwards.

I kept on alternating units days and nights to observe results from continued operation. After three days, Venta-Sonic unit began to add that strange squeeking noise. Air-O-Swiss gave consistent good near silent performance...and going strong still. Just based on noise-level alone, I had to return Venta-Sonic even though Air-O-Swiss costs $50 more. But that extra costs are further justified by the following:

1. Consistent Performance I can put Air-O-Swiss on automatic mode with preset humidity level before I go to sleep, when I wake up, my bedside humidity reader (far away from the machine) has within 1% margin of error to the preset desired level.

Venta-Sonic however, I can put it to MAX settings, and I get only around 32% sometimes and other times anywhere below 50%.

2. Greater Output Capacity My bedroom is 300 square feet+, half of 600 both machines claim can cover. Air-O-Swiss comfortably reaches my desired level (b/w 40% and 50%) with lower settings (It can go as high as 75%, I only set it up to 50%). Venta-Sonic labors over 8 hours at MAX settings and gets me LESS humidity! It won't get me above 50%.

3. Ease of Use with Digital Control I like Air-O-Swiss' Auto Mode with Desired Humidity Setting. The machine adjusts output automatically. Venta-Sonic only has two dials, you'll have to experiment for a while to find the optimal settings. As soon as atmospheric humidity changes, which can be daily or a few hours, you'd have to re-adjust again...that's like shooting darts in the dark all the time, you can get close if lucky but never on target.

4. Better Mist Venting Notch Design I put both machines on 3-feet-tall dresser. Air-O-Swiss' notch is tilted higher than Venta's. This means when operating cold mist, Air-O-Swiss's disappears into air vs. some Venta's still hit the floor not enough to form condensation but less efficient in humidifying perhaps that contributes to Venta's lower output previously mentioned.

5. Better Craftsmanship Venta-Sonic is a notch below Air-O-Swiss, appears to be made simpler and CHEAPER.

Filter changes and clean up are similar. Venta needs to change filter cup. Air-O-Swiss needs filter cup and once-a-year silver stick change. Both are fool proof. Venta filters are more expensive but Air-O-Swill has extra silver stick. Cost-wise it's similar. I like Air-O-Swiss's option of replacing resins just dump old resin in filter cup and put new packet in and you get a NEW filter this cuts cost by almost 65% and less trash for the environment.

Water tank design is similar. Both fills water upside down. I still prefer Air-O-Swiss because the top is more leveled, easier to sit in sink or bath tub than Venta's tilted top. When moving Venta-Sonic, water spilled between base and tank. I had no problem with Air-O-Swiss.

Anything Air-O-Swiss can improve? Sure! The humidity reader on the machine is adjusted about 13% lower than actual average room humidity. They probably did it to ensure average humidity far away from the unit reaches target, but I think they can do so internally without having to show it. It would be a mistake to read the room humidity off that machine.

After I got the machines, I googled on both. There was one review elsewhere saying that Venta-Sonic broke after a month and half, out of store 30-day warranty and owner took a loss. Air-O-Swiss has 3 year warranty, if I remember correctly, Venta 1 year.

The trouble I went through is worth the finding of the right humidifier for me. Hope this helps those with similar concerns!

I am writing this review after prolonged experience with the Air-O-Swiss 7135. I bought one early last winter because I live in a walk-up in New York City which has ancient central heating that I can't adjust. Consequently, it dries the air like there's no tomorrow.

I chose the Air-O-Swiss because they have a reputation as a company that produces a high quality products however, after my experience I'm left wondering just how this reputation came about.

The 7135 is initially fantastic it looks great, feels sturdy, is virtually silent and does its job well (although for a humidifier this size in a medium sized studio with brutal central heating, the best you're going to achieve is around 35% humidity). The tank is easy to fill, the unit is easy to maintain and all seems well. One thing I will say is to echo the experience of others who have found that the digital readout on the unit is around 10% out I have a good quality hygrometer which is situated nearby and they both give totally different readings. But not to worry, since I need the unit to go full blast all the time, it does not matter to me what the readout is. It's never going to give me my ideal 45% humidity, so I never need it to shut off.

Now, onto the problem. The first unit I bought in 2007 developed a leak after about 3 months of use. The tank, when filled with water, doesn't leak by itself neither does the reservoir in the base. But put the tank on the reservoir and turn it on and after around 20 minutes water begins to gush from the join between the two. Whatever physical mechanism prevents water from coming out of the tank when the reservoir is full, ceases to work and the result is flooding a disaster if you've gone out and left it running.

I was told that perhaps there was a hairline crack somewhere which was letting air in and screwing with the level of the water in the reservoir. I looked everywhere and concluded that if there is a hairline crack, it's going to be impossible to find. So the store I bought it from exchanged it for a new one. I have to point out that I treated the unit with kid gloves, never banged the tank on anything and was always extremely careful to position the tank on the base gently. Whatever caused it to fail, it wasn't maltreatment.

So, I had a new unit. I didn't use it much because it was the end of the winter anyway, so it was stored in the box in the closet over the spring and the summer. At the time of writing, I've used the new one for approximately 2 months and it's developed exactly the same overflow problem. It only overflows when the tank is on the base and it's switched on, after around 20 minutes of use.

Contacting Air-O-Swiss I've been told that the tank probably has a hairline crack somewhere and that I should order a new tank at a price of $29.99. But two factors are telling me "no."

First of all, this is the second unit I've had and it's developed exactly the same problem after a similar duration of time. This alone tells me that the model itself has an issue but that's not all. I spoke to the women in the store that I bought it from and she told me that they have had quite a few units returned with the same problem. I also spoke to a guy at work recently who has had a couple of these and they overflowed too.

From reading some of the rave reviews here, I suspect that people have rated this product based on its initial performance, which admittedly is great. I wonder how many of them have gone on to experience the same problem as me and many others, a few months down the line.

I think basically what's up is that the tank is not made particularly well and I believe that Air-O-Swiss is fully aware of the issue and figures that they'll just sell replacement tanks and that most people will be happy with that scenario. But it is already enough that I have to buy replacement filters and a silver stick once a year. Add to that the cost of a new tank every few months and it's just not worth it. I honestly feel ripped off with this product and would advise others not to buy it. I know what it's like when you see a bum review on Amazon among lots of rave reviews: the tendency is to think "what's his problem? He just got a faulty unit!" but in this case, I think that given the experience that I've had with two units and the experiences I've heard of others who have had the same unit for a while, the review is justified. Don't waste your money on the Air-O-Swiss, there's a very good chance that yours will leak too.

I got this to humidify my kids room. Previously we had been using the old vick vaporizer but it only put out for about 6 hours and had some other issues with getting the mineral content of the water just right.

Anyway this is without a doubt the best humidfier I've ever used. Setup was a little confusing at first (where little parts went. The tube hole through the tank was a little disconcerting but after I understood its function I saw it wasn't going to slosh water everywhere.

For a humidfier it has a amazing number of options.

Warm Mist vs Cool

I had always used "warm mist" but my wife wanted "cool mist", this was the only one that had both. Warm and cool are relative terms however. When I think of warm mist I think of the Vicks which can scald you if you get to close. It heats the room up in operation. This device the warm mist is sort of warm. It takes a few minutes to warm up and if you put your hand over the output you can feel its warm but not hot. It goes to warm by pre-heating the water before it hits the vaporizer. In cool mist it just vaporizes.

Output-

You have two output controls, relative humidity and mist volume for lack of a better term. Think of it as fan speed (but no fan)You set the humidity and it spits out water as needed. I don't know where the sensor is but the position of the output nozzel can really affect its reading.

The tank seems to hold enough water for 24 hours of output or 2-3 nights of use. The output is plenty adequate for a bedroom.

Controls-

Lots of controls on/off, heat/no heat, humidity, output, timer, auto mode and more. This is the big difference betwen this and the lower end model. Someone finally figured out how to put a timer on a humidifier (imagine that). So it runs as many hours as you set it. The sleep mode sets all settings automatically and runs 8 hours. I love it.

Noise-

What noise, this thing is silent. No bubbling or hissing or fan noises.

Filling the tank-

Take it out, flip it, unscrew the deminerlization cartridage and fill er up. Not the most stable but it works. Carry handle makes it easy to take back.

Its everything you could possibaly want in a humidifier. Low maintence, easy enough to fill, quite, lots of settings for any need.

Beats the heck out of the old vicks and some fan based whicking mold catching filter units I've used. The closet thing I ever had was a drugstore one that spit out the good stuff for 15 minutes and then broke. This is a quality product (and price) and should last (I've had it 2 weeks at the time of writing). It may be expensive but it does what you want and will outlast many of the others. If you've got the money its worth it.

I've had my Air-O-Swiss 7135 for a little over a year now and I think it's absolutely wonderful. It shoots a very fine mist through the tube on top, which you can turn to face whichever direction you like, in a 360-degree plane. (The instructions do tell you that the humidifier should be put on a table, not on the floor.) It also operates very quietly. You don't hear any fan and you only occasionally hear the sound of trickling water. I leave mine set on automatic. Simply select the humidity level you want in your house and this little appliance will turn itself on and off seamlessly to keep the humidity level near what you've selected. I consider the other features secondary to the ease of operation.

My only complaint so far with this item is with filling the reservoir. You have to turn the reservoir upside down to fill it, and it's large enough that holding it under a faucet can be a chore. (I find myself filling the reservoir every 24 to 36 hours.) The only fix I can suggest to the manufacturer is to allow you to pour water into an opening in the top of the reservoir so that you wouldn't have to remove the reservoir to fill it. Still, I love this humidifier.

I'd love to give this unit more than three stars because I like almost everything about it. It humidifies really well. I can really tell the difference in humidity level after even 1 hour in my bedroom. Much better than the evaporative humidifier I used to have. I think the humidistat works well, it's very easy to use and I like how it can have a sleep mode, it has variable "humidifying levels" that allow the user to adjust how much humidity is coming out, better than just a fan speed adjustment.

The thing is practically invisible to the ear. The occasional trickle of water but otherwise silent as the tomb. The tank, while not complicated to fill, is not the best design I've seen. Yes, you have to flip it upside down, but that's fairly typical of tabletop humidifiers I believe; at least it is of the ones I have owned.

However, my biggest problem with this humidifier is the white dust it spews EVERYWHERE! I don't know if it's because I have softened water at my house, but my whole bedroom is coated in this white dust. It gets everywhere! And I am using there demineralization cartridge and still have the problem. I called their tech support, which was very difficult to do, and they were of no help. Just "that's why ultrasonic humidifiers are unpopular" was their response!! What sort of response is that??

So, unless I buy distilled water to use in this thing, which would be a rather ridiculous expense, I have to deal with the dust. So, it looks like I'll have to sacrifice the quiet operation of a warm mist humidifier for a noisy evaporative cooler.

Sleepytime Snooz Natural Sleep Aid

Sleepytime Snooz Natural Sleep Aid, Berry, 2.5 Ounce BottlesAfter reading the warnings from other reviewers of taste and strength, I was prepared. I bought a single bottle from the local convenience store. About 30min before bedtime, I took my chilled bottle from the fridge and poured half of it into a small tumbler, and filled the tumbler with chilled water. Anticipating a medicine-like experience (it doesn't say tea on the bottle, folks!), I drank the 6oz mixture. It wasn't bad! It actually tasted like a juice product with a short-lived after-taste of medicine. Because it was diluted, it has a pleasant level of sweet and juice flavor. I started feeling a little sleepy within 5 minutes, and I have a half bottle left for next time. Recommended!

The opposite of an energy drink. I'm in love.

This stuff will knock me out in 10 minutes on nights that I can't fall asleep--without that gross groggy feeling that you get from regular sleep aids. I wake up COMPLETELY refreshed when I take one of these.

I alllmooooossst want to knock it down a star for the taste (I've only tried the Lemon Ginger) but this isn't really a beverage, it's a supplement. I repeat: this is a SUPPLEMENT, not a beverage.

Here's the trick for the taste: It tastes pretty good, actually, as long as you're expecting it to taste "herbal", rather than whatever the name of the flavor is. It DEFINITELY does not taste like tea. It doesn't have the weird artificially chemically taste of liquid medicines like cough syrup, which is super nice. And if you don't like the taste? It's only a few oz, just plug your nose ;)

The taste has grown on me after a few bottles--I'm not sure how to describe it, though. If you were to take one of these and GUESS the flavor without looking, "lemon ginger" is not the descriptor I would use. I guess it kind of has that herbally aftertaste that some energy drinks have (irony?)

I tried this last night for the first time and I fell asleep fast and slept pretty well. However, after I got up I had to go back to bed and sleep some more and it is now 11am and I am still feeling sleepy. So the bottom line is, it works, but consider trying a half dose for the first time you try it.

Well I thought I'd give this a shot because I do try a little bit of everything. I bought it from Walgreens. I thought maybe the previous reviewers were just sensitive to the taste. but THEY WERE RIGHT! no exaggeration...it tastes AWEFUL! It's got the STRONG herbal taste to it. I tried to just down it, thinking I got almost to the end of the bottle. but when I looked, there was still quite a bit left! There was no way I could finish it. I thought of mixing it with water but I was afraid that would make it worse. Needless to say it didnt help me sleep at all. I dont think it's because I didn't finish the bottle because another reviewer claimed they only needed half the bottle. I drank more than half. HORRIBLE!!!

Nytol Quickcaps, Regular, 16 Caplets, (Pack of 2)

Nytol Quickcaps, Regular, 16 Caplets, The product was so old that each pill crumbled to nothing when you try to get them out of their wrapper. I will not be buying from this vendor again

If you keep the Brand name antihystamine on hand, this is better. It works faster. It's not always more costly depending on where you buy it. Amazon has very inexpensive pricing options on this, and I couldn'd find it at my local pharmacy.

The other review is extremely informative.

Dream Essentials Infinity Sleep Mask, French Navy Blue

Dream Essentials Infinity Sleep Mask, French Navy BlueI work midnight shifts and don't sleep well when it's not dark. My room is such that making it totally dark during the day is not practical.

Prior to using this product I would only get about 4 hours of sleep before waking. With this mask, I slept a full 7 hours.

It's very comfortable, even for side sleeping. I've only used "flat" sleep masks in the past and I've always hated how they constricted my eyes. This mask holds itself away from your eyes--I forget its there.

A very useful product. I dinged it a star because it slid around on my face and it lets some light in near my nose. It's much better than anything I've tried, so I recommend it.

I was a bit leery about ordering this due to feedbacks that these were not for side-sleepers. I am a side-sleeper, and I have had no problems using this sleeping mask. It took a little getting used to because I used to have those elastic straps instead of velcro-fasteners, but once I got the right fit I didn't have to unfasten/fasten the strap every time. The mask is very comfy, it doesn't put pressure on the eyes because it's hollowed out, and the padding effectively blocks light from the sides of the eyes. It is not fit for stomach sleepers, though. Overall, I really like this product!

Buy Dream Essentials Infinity Sleep Mask, French Navy Blue Now

Comfortable and blocks all light. Strap is too short for people with big heads. It is elastic and I can pull it tight enough to be secure, but then I get a headache from being too tight. When it fits comfortably there is only about 1/4 inch contact between the two strap ends. There should be at least 1 more inch of material for it to fit right. 5 stars for quality and light blocking. 1 star for too short strap.

I was looking for a mask that would be adjustable and not press against my eyelids, but still create blackout conditions. This version fit the bill. It's definitely heavier than others, but it didn't take me long to get used to that. It's comfortable and, most importantly, keeps ALL light out.

Drive Medical Med Aire Low Air Loss Mattress Replacement System with Alternating Pressure, Dark Purp

Drive Medical Med Aire Low Air Loss Mattress Replacement System with Alternating Pressure, Dark Purple, 8'Incredibly easy to set up. Everything comes in a single box which isn't heavy at all.

Works well.

Whatever you do, choose a mattress with "low air loss" -do not buy a mattress that ONLY offers alternating pressure!

There is good evidence from studies that "low air loss" mattresses help prevent and heal bed sores, but no good evidence for alternating pressure.

This one has both. you can disable the alternating pressure if you like)

The low air loss on this mattress is CONTINUOUS, which is a good thing!

Some other mattresses (such as several from invacare) have low air loss that is only "on demand" -you have to push a button which then only activates it for perhaps 20 minutes. I believe continuous low air loss is sure to work more effectively.

The noise is perhaps twice as loud as a big aquarium pump. I found I could eliminate much of the noise if I paid careful attention to the hose connector where it plugs into the pump, a slight gap will makes a loud hissing noise. Press it in well, or tie it if you have to, and no problem. There also are some vibrations generated that propagate through the bed frame, but aren't felt by the patient unless they lean on a rail.

If you had absolutely no other noise generating devices you still might be annoyed by it, but I'm managing to sleep fine in the same room.

What is low air loss? There are zillions of tiny holes on the mattress constantly emitting small amounts of air, which prevents and heals bed sores by keeping skin cool and dry.

In order for a low air loss mattress to effectively prevent bed sores, you need to minimize the amount of material between the patient and mattress!

That means ideally a thin cotton sheet only, or even no sheet and only underpad if there is an existing sore. I'm also using a thin disposable bed pad, and looking to buy a variety specially designed to breathe well for this purpose. Update: Am using kendall "maxiflo", specially designed for low air loss matresses -good results.

In the event of a power outage, the mattress would eventually deflate creating an uncomfortable and unsafe surface, so that's something to think about.

It'd probably be ok for a bit, but I have a foam mattress I can swap in if we get stuck with a long outage. Haven't been through it yet.

Update: I bought a yamaha 2000 backup generator converted to run on propane, enough to keep refrigerator going too.

Other recommendations for bed sore prevention: Baza Perineal Lotion after regular changes (moisture barrier). Sage "prevalon" heel protector (heel & tailbone are 2 most common bed sores)

For bed sore treatment: xenaderm ointment (prescription only). Keep pressure off, regular turns every 2 hours, cool & dry.

Low air loss is no substitute for regular turns but does really help

So far so good. Ordered this in early-August and have been very pleased with product to date. My brother (diagnosed with M/S) was recently released from hospital and was sent home with a gel pad which was absolutely miserable to lay on for an extended period or time. Sleeping was very uncomfortable and each morning he woke up with sore limbs & burning itchy buttocks. I was so nervous he would end up with a bed sore and started researching Low Air Loss Mattresses which I knew would help maintain skin integrity. Well, we're approx. 45 days into it and he's doing very well and loving his new air mattress. This particular mattress does everything it claims (so far that is). Setting go from soft to firm. Only one drawback: noise level of the pump...after placing a pillow between pump and footboard, however; pump noise was substantially reduced. Set-up was simple and I am not set-up savvy with anything. The best part was the cost. Researched several websites & Amazon was the least expensive (saving over $900 from one competitor for identical product) so that was a real bargain! (BLESS YOU, AMAZON)! For anyone looking at this mattress or similar items, give it a try. My brother's insurance did not cover this item, that's why price was so important. But again, Amazon was the absolute best price I found and he is thrilled with his new bed thus far. In other words...if he he sleeps well, my hubby & I sleep well and for the past several weeks, me & my husband have been sleeping like babies! lol So, YES, we love this mattress , too! :)

My poor, active father is now pretty much confined to an "at home" hospital bed. Though his bottom was tender, his heels developed open sores from the mattress. I tried pillow propping his ankles, a foam mattress cover-provided by Medi-Care with pillow propping and when I was turned down for any upgrades, I decided to get something for him.

This is a very durable, reliable, and constantly working air mattress. It is priced mid-range and worth every penny!

I highly recommend this bed and this seller delivered it promptly and in mint condition.

Thanks to the seller and thanks to the manufacturer of this great mattress.

My mother recently got a hospital bed for at home. The original mattress was so hard, she sheared her ankle at the bony projection while kicking around in her blankets. She still gets up and walks around, but I know her condition will continue to deteriorate until she is bed-bound, so I wanted to get a good mattress to prevent bed sores or other skin problems. What I found out was an alternating pressure air mattress is an excellent choice because, even without turning the person, the pressure in the mattress changes, which changes the body's pressure points, thus reducing the possibility of developing skin break down. I was considering a gel mattress or memory foam at first but if the person is not moved, the pressure is constant and could cause skin breakdown. I did quite a bit of research online before making this purchase, and I felt this was a great choice, at a very good price. Other places online had this identical mattress for more than a thousand dollars more than I paid here. Gotta love that!!

I was happy with this mattress, as long as I had power. We had a few storms that knocked the power out last year, one time for a week. There were a few cells that never wanted to keep air in them once the power came back on. I had to get rid of the mattress. I was very disappointed. I ended up buying a memory foam mattress that does not need power to operate.

RELAXALL

RELAXALLI have tried many different products such as inflamarest and one other product that I can not remember. Relaxall seems to really make me VERY relaxed. Actually, I only take it before bed because it will normally knock me out!!!! Just makes me that drowsy....but I take it to relax my muscles...I tend to have a lot of muscle spasms and tenseness. Take one of these and in the morning time I can still move. If I don't, when I wake up I can almost not get out of bed.

The other review on here said some people may think it is due to a placebo effect...I am a VERY skeptical person...and I DO NOT like taking pills...weather natural or not. I also always think to myself...these aren't doing anything...BELIEVE ME...this one product will knock me out weather I like it or not. I first got on it because my brother told me about...he is a chiropractor.

Don't waste your money this product did nothing for me. I guess it's possible everyone is different and it might work for someone else. I highly doubt it. If anyone felt relaxed it was a placebo effect I believe but don't tell, it might ruin the illusion that this product is helpful.
