Natrol Melatonin 3mg, 120 TabletsI've taken Melatonin for years, always gave me a decent night sleep without having to resort to stronger sleeping pills that would guarantee me a rough next morning. Melatonin

Melatonin and 5-HTP and ought to be talked about together. First, let me say that I am not a medical doctor and I don't play one on TV. I have read a great deal about this subject, however.

5-HTP is a precursor to seratonin and can transfer across the blood brain barrier easily. Melatonin is a downstream product of Seratonin, i.e it is made from Seratonin. So, if you take 5-HTP and Melatonin together, it's like filling up a bucket by pouring water into it and patching a leak in it at the same time.

You'll sleep better and if you are mildly depressed it will help. If you are more than mildly depressed you might want to go to a medical doctor and have your thyroid checked out for hypothyroidism.

It takes about a week for 5-HTP to build up in your body,if you aren't better after 5 to 7 days you might want to increase the dosage.

It is better to take melatonin sublingually,put it under your tongue and let it melt.

I haven't tried other Melatonin sleep aids so my experience is only with Natrol melatonin. I have found that 3mg is too high of a dose for me so I cut the tabs in half and only take 1.5mg at a time. Also, I have heard people say that they take melatonin every night and this is much better than taking other drugs like tylenol pm but I still think it's a bad idea to become totally dependent on melatonin. Another thing I have discovered is that if I get too much or too little sleep when taking melatonin I feel worse than I would if I did not take it. For example if I get under 6 hours of sleep or over 9 hours of sleep I will feel even groggier in the morning than I normally would. The whole purpose of melatonin is to reset your sleep cycle so this product is great if you have become an insomniac for a few days and need to get back into a normal sleep cycle.

This can certainly put you to sleep and keep you asleep. It also gives me a TON of dreams and I always wake up feeling refreshed and without any hangover. I do not recommend taking more than the recommended dose because you may wake up in the middle of the night, for me this is usually cause by intense dreaming. 1.5mg or less may even be enough for some people. I sometimes take this along with 5-HTP for sleep and boy the two combined can really give you a pleasant and recuperative sleep. I recommend trying it.
