Cardiovascular Research - Magnesium Taurate, 125 mg, 180 capsules

Cardiovascular Research - Magnesium Taurate, 125 mg, 180 capsulesAfter experiencing abnormal heartbeats, tightness in the chest, anxiety, restricted breathing and sleep difficulties, my doctor diagnosed magnesium deficiency. I tried various magnesium supplements and finally settled on magnesium taurate. It gets the best results for me with less diarrhea than other products.

This is not the only brand of magnesium taurate that I have used, but it is the one I prefer. This brand has smaller capsules than the two other brands I have tried (one had very large tablets, the other had larger gelcaps with 1/3 less magnesium in each capsule). With one of the less expensive brands that I tried, I had to up my dosage by 50% when some of my symptoms began to return.

This is a quality product that I will continue to buy.

I started experiencing heart palpitations approximately 4 years ago. They started as random flutterings that would come and go as I lay down to go to sleep. They became progressively worse, and would often go on for days. These maddening incidents continued to worsen until they would culminate in a period of continuous palpitations, with my heart pounding rapidly and sporadically. These periods started in spurts of 20-30 minutes and once they stopped the palpitations would go away completely for a few weeks, then start building again. After one incident where the palpitations lasted for 2 hours, I went to the emergency room, but they stopped before the physicians could catch it on an EKG (thanks for the 20 minute delay in the waiting room even though there was no one in the place at the time).

Wash, rinse, repeat. The palpitations kept coming back, building, and culminating in an extended, frightening, painful period of rapid, irregular heart palpitations sometimes lasting 4-6 hours. These incidents left me feeling exhausted and horribly frustrated as no one could tell me *why* they were happening, *what* was causing them, or how to stop them.

I underwent blood tests.

I did a stress test.

I wore a holter monitor.

Nothing. Nada. Zilch. Bubkis.

I was at the end of my rope, frustrated, angry, and unsure of what to do next as no could tell me what in the hell was wrong with me. I lived every day wondering when the palpitations would return, where I would be, and whether my heart would eventually give out.

Then I discovered Magnesium Taurate.

During a "building period" when I knew the palpitations were steadily growing and I was within a matter of days of being subjected to a 4-6 hour period of my heart attempting to hammer its way out of my chest, I was searching Google for *any* way of addressing, treating, or stopping these damned palpitations. I read an article about Magnesium deficiency causing heart palpitations, and specified magnesium taurate specifically because of its superior absorption rate. Figuring "What the hell" I drove to a local retailer that had it in stock and bought a bottle.

I took 4 tablets initially, and within an hour the palpitations had stopped.

Completely.

Not, subsided, not lessened, but stopped.

I was shocked. Then next day I took 2 in the morning and 2 in the evening.

Still no palpitations. Nothing. Not even a hiccup.

It has been a year now, and I have had no issues with palpitations, no multi-hour heart incidents that no physician can explain. If I go for a day or two and miss some doses I will feel a couple of flip-flops in my chest, but if I pop a couple of these, everything goes back to normal.

I can't say enough about this product, and would pay significantly more to obtain it. If you suffer from heart palpitations and no one can give you an answer, and least give this mineral a try, as it might just give you your life back.

First of all, let me start off by saying I usually don't take vitamins or minerals. The reason being, I've taken them in the past, mostly vitamins (not minerals), and to be honest with you I didn't feel any better. My feeling is if it doesn't do anything for you why take it???

Here's why I changed my mind and decided to try magnesium:

One day I just happened to be watching TV and saw this doctor by the name of Carolyn Dean, M.D. ND on a show called 'Your Health' talking about the many benefits of taking magnesium.

Many health problems such as insomnia, diabetes, asthma, to migraines to heart disease, etc. can be treated with magnesium. One of the major benefits is it relaxes your muscles. I was intrigued, it almost sounded too good to be true.

Long story short, I started taking magnesium taurate (by Cardiovascular Research) about 3 weeks ago and used it for my on and off insomnia that I had been having for the past two years. Not having high expectations (because of my past experiences) I wasn't expecting much. Boy was I wrong! The first night I took it I fell into a deep sleep, like 1-2-3, and woke up extremely refreshed. I couldn't believe it. 3 weeks later I can still fall asleep right after taking the pill, it isn't a fluke. It's amazing how much more energy you have when you get a good night's sleep.

This definitely is a good product/brand & I urge anyone who has trouble falling asleep to buy it!

Anyone who takes magnesium knows it's helpful to ease leg cramps and muscle spasms. There are many forms of magnesium, and I believe the best one is whichever works and doesn't upset your stomach. I've experienced digestive trouble with both oxide and citrate formulas, so I look for aspartate, glycinate or taurate when shopping for a cal/mag supplement. Unfortunately, those are rare, so I began taking magnesium separately at night.

The capsules are small & easy to swallow. You need to take 3 to get 90% of the recommended daily allowance of this essential mineral, so 180 capsules is a 2 month supply. It's actually best to split up dosages of any supplement, since your body can only absorb so much. I find that the leg cramps that woke me up during the night are gone and the formula is gentle to my stomach. The taurate is supposed to be relaxing, but I experienced a stronger effect when I took citrate in powder form (Peter Gillham's Calm)

The price on Amazon from Vitamin Shoppe is very competitive, but $25 is still much higher than other magnesium products, so I'm not sure if I'll order it again. I can recommend this product for its quality and Vitamin Shoppe for the quick shipping, but I'll probably be ordering something else next time.

I am editing this today, Oct 25. I ordered another magnesium supplement (from another vendor) with oxide & citrate, and I've had a lot of stomach cramping. I can't tell if it's because the product is stronger or isn't being absorbed into my system. In any case, I wanted to add this to my March review, since I decided it's probably necessary to spend a little more to get what works best.
