There is no substitute for the MindFold. These are great, but flawed and CAN BE FIXED. Sure, they keep the light out the best and allow you to move your eyes/eyelashes in complete darkness. The problem, as others have noted here, is that the flat, thin plastic is sharp edgewise and is so darn over sized (see the ad photo) as to prevent any sleeping on your side with the mask on. I have bought these glasses for about 10 years, due to their (laying on your back) effectiveness. Finally, it came to me three years ago, a two part fix: 1. cut the plastic around the edge with some scissors! You can take 1/4" off all along the glasses, especially around the nose cutout (except the very ends which have the slots for the band) and that makes all the difference in the world comfort wise, and has no effect at all on the opaqueness or light blocking ability of the item. Now, (#2) here's another, equally important modification, an even better trick. Get some good, black (or any color, really) gaffers (duct, "duck", whatever) tape and remove the Velcro mask band ends and then put several layers of wide tape on the outside of the large black plastic sheet that comprises the non-foam part of the MindFold system. Then cut two little slots in the tape where the slots are in the black plastic and "re-string" the head band, and, you're done. What have you done? Extended the life of these $12 sleep goggles about three or more years with 45 seconds' work. In my experience, the plastic cracks from fatigue starting about 12 months in. With the gaffers tape on, the mask's plastic and crack all it wants, in fact the sheet can break, mine did about two years ago, and they are even more comfortable and just as light tight, even better because they bend more easily to your facial contours, with the tape on the outside. Save money, have fun, keep the same sleep mask for years, and, make it much, much, much more comfortable! Are you listening, Mindfold?)

This is actually the second MindFold I've purchased, since my first one ran away during the move to my new apartment.I fall asleep best in total darkness, yet I've always had problems with other sleep masks. If I have even the slightest pressure on my eyes my vision is "fuzzy" for about 20 minutes after removing the mask. With the MindFold, that's not a problem. It's great for sleeping during car trips... as advertised, you get darkness even in bright sunlight!
There are only two things that I'm not too crazy about. The velcro closures on the side make for a great fit, but always snag my curly hair. Also, the front of the mask is a stiff plastic. It has some give to it, but tossing and turning (like I do) is not the most comfortable with the mask on. I usually wake up to find the mask lying next to me somewhere. Neither of these issues are annoying enough to make me stop using my MindFold.
I almost forgot. When it arrived, my MindFold came in a clear plastic bag. Got some strange looks from the neighbors as to why I was getting myself a blindfold. My first one came in a box and I liked that better.

This product is exactly what it says it is. It is a piece of foam that has eyes cut out and then glued to a piece of plastic with velcro straps. Does anything in that sentence sound comfortable to sleep in? Its not. I find it impossible to go to sleep in this thing. I strongly suggest you look for something else if you wish to sleep but to give it a plus it does a great job at blocking at all light so im going to keep it for meditation. This mask works well for sensory deprivation relaxation or meditation. It allows you to open your eyes while it's on. The front of the mask is stiff plastic, so it won't fold easily, letting in light. The only thing I don't particularly like is it uses a plastic-y foam rubber that is a little scratchy. Bed, Bath and Beyond has a more comfortable open-eye mask, but it's not as sturdy.
