My wife and I like the sound of the ocean so we run this machine during the daytime as well as night. The digital recordings are very clear and true-to-life. We can play two sounds at once like sea gulls over the ocean. There is plenty of volume and the controls are intuitive if you're used to digital products. The only drawbacks is that I can sense the repetition in the gull recordings when I'm awake. It's a good product overall if you're an insomniac or have a baby.
This device has ~8 background sounds (2 rain, 2 waves, etc). I don't notice the problem with looping mentioned by others. There are ~8 overlay sounds which can be combined with the background noisemainly various birds. Several of the bird sounds are a little unpleasant; when I first heard the owl I thought one of my kids was hurt.
My main gripe with this product is that when you keep it close by, there is a clear static background hiss at most volumes which becomes very annoying. I think if you were to keep it tucked further away into a corner that would not be an issue.
Thinking about it now, this device really doesn't do anything that a couple of $15 nature CDs can't do, & the CDs would likely have better sound quality.

The Marsona is an excellent idea. It basically allows you to create your own mix of nature/white noise sounds to sleep by. Let me start by saying that I use this product nightly and really enjoy it but I'm still looking for something better.Unfortunately, the built in speaker is very poor. I really couldn't get past the bad sound quality when I was trying to sleep. It was like trying to listen to a radio through a fast-food drive-through speaker.
I then hooked the line-out to my Bose clock-radio, which did make the sound tolerable. However, the sample-rate of the sounds recorded/simulated are of low quality, so they really can't be improved too much by a better speaker system.
On the good side, the sound variety and ability to mix sounds is wonderful. This provides you with a large combination of effects. If you want a surf with sea birds, bouys and loons one night, then a stream with hawks and frogs the next, it is easy. Don't like frogs? Add an owl instead.
My sleep is very important, and I'm willing to pay a lot for a better quality sound conditioner. Improve the sample rate of the sound and try again.
