For a decade now whenever I start getting and when I have a sore throat, I take Zand Elderberry Zinc lozenges. I bought them as a test from a local premium grocery and they tasted good enough that I take them without hesitation when I start to get sick. Other oral zinc solutions are less appealing and so tend to slip my mind when I start to get sick, the most critical time to fight ailments. I carry a bag in my lunchbox and on a number of occasions when I first notice the twinges of an impending sore throat, I took them and avoided getting sick.
It is a good idea to keep the package in a ziplock bag after you open it because like any hard "candy" in a twist close wrapping, they will get moist and sticky from humidity. With a ziplock bag I can keep them in my lunchbox for months and they don't get sticky.
I used to go by a premium grocery that stocked these once a week, but my life patterns have changed, so getting a dozen bags at a time through Amazon is very convenient.
During cold, flu, and whiny season, it is a good idea to have a bag around to share with your co-workers. Do this for selfish reasons, because it is not fun or safe to be around sick co-workers. As soon as they start complaining about a sore throat, stop their gob with a Zand Elderberry Zinc lozenge. They might not remember to thank you, but their lack of coughing and sneezing at you is the best reward imaginable.
