I have used melatonin as a sleep aid for years. I find the common 3mg tablets are more than necessary and prefer the lowest dosage of 1 mg.

They are a bit harder to find but no need to O.D. if you don't need to. Also dials down the dreams to near zero for me.

I've taken melatonin a long time, and it definitely works for me. I really like this 1mg dosage, which is very hard to find in drugs stores. It is the perfect dosage for me. I fall asleep within 20 minutes, but I never feel drugged out. I much prefer this over the 3mg version, since I don't seem to need the extra dose.

I've read that different people require different doses of Melatonin to accomplish the good sleep they're looking for, and that's true in my experience. For me, any more than 1 or 1.5 mg at night will leave me feeling strange the whole next day. I can't explain the feeling any better than just "strange." It's messing with the hormone balance, I'm guessing.

But locally I've only found dosages of 3 mg and more, so I end up cutting the pills, which often shatters them. I finally gave up and ordered these 1 mg pills, and so far they're perfect for me. And price-wise, these are a much better value than anything purchased locally, as well.

One thing I've noticed about Melatonin is, it's just like normal sleepiness. If you're not feeling well otherwise, have aches in the body or problems on your mind, it's not necessarily going to give you a full night's sleep. On those occasions, it tends to get me to sleeping ok, but only to wake up again a short time later, repeatedly for most of the night. So for those times, a regular sleeping pill becomes necessary. Or I just stay up and read. That's just me. As I said, apparently everyone reacts differently to Melatonin.

The 1mg dose makes it a lot easier to set my own dose. I generally take just one, but some nights I step up to taking two. It's much easier and more accurate than trying to score and cut the standard 3mg pills.

One thing to watch out for is that these pills are not coated. That doesn't bother me, but it might bother some people.

NatureBright SunTouch Plus Light and Ion Therapy Lamp

I have gotten down in the dumps around November every year. This year it got bad enough that I finally decided to buy a light box. What can I say, it works! I use it in the morning for 30 minutes while I check emails. If I have time I use it in the evening when I get home from work for another 30 minutes. The only cons I can think of is that the ionizer thing smells bad. Sort of a strong plastic smell. I have been using the light box for around a month. I feel very good. I am not down in the dumps at all. I highly recommend this if you have seasonal effective disorder like I do. I would have bought this years ago had I known it would actually work.

I looked at a few different sun lamps on Amazon and ended up with this one because the price was discounted. The company's website did not have as many detailed specs as I wanted to see before buying the product, so I called customer service. To receive 10,000 lux, you have to sit at least as close as 15 inches. The manual says with the ionizer on, you can sit as far as 20 inches (I'm not sure I believe that I think it's just recommended for a "treatment session", not for the 10,000 lux). Also, the lights should be good for about 3 years (there are 4 in the lamp), and it's currently $60 to replace all 4.

As for the ionizer, I wasn't looking for anything like this feature, and I was skeptical about it at first. However, I have since learned that it is a great plus to the light itself; it's like having fresh air blowing at you. With the ionizer and the lamp on, I almost feel like I'm sitting outside on a sunny day.

Shipping was prompt, customer service was OK (they did take a day to call me back even during business hoursbut they were nice and answered all my questions), and I'm very happy about the lamp. I'm not a morning person, but I find myself actually looking forward to going to work in the morning just so I can sit next to the lamp. I wasn't convinced when I bought the lamp that light therapy would actually counter my winter depression, but I'm a believer now. This lamp has certainly worked well for me.

I moved from Virginia to Iowa in '06 and experienced SAD during my first winter here. It wasn't something that I recognized right away and by the time spring came, I was 30lbs heavier and suffering from moderate depression. I am writing as an electronics techie. I smelled something suspicious as soon as I turned on the ionizer in this product, and in five minutes I started coughing, quite sure this was ozone. So I borrowed an ion meter and and ozone meter to test it out. Ion output? Zero! Ozone output? 0.209 parts per million within 10-15 minutes. I checked the Web for ozone health standards (). Devices that produce ozone, it says, can decrease lung function, aggravate asthma, and cause throat irritation and cough, chest pain and shortness of breath, inflammation of lung tissue, and higher susceptibility to lung infection. The risk of course depends on the amount of ozone. The Environmental Protection Agency states the risk level at 0.08 parts per million, the Food and Drug Administration states it at 0.05 parts per million, and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health state it at 0.10 parts per million. NIOSH goes further by saying this level is "not to be exceeded at any time." So, what about 0.266 parts per million from the SunTouch Plus? I have to conclude that this product is defective and dangerous, and cannot be used to obtain an ion effect.

An additional observation, 11/2/11: The company has now put a so-called "Educational Kit" on its website, which deserves critical review, because of several inaccuracies and deceptions. One case in point: they reprint a graph on page 7 from the American Journal of Psychiatry, without crediting the authors or posting a reprint permission statement from the Journal. They imply that their device would produce results as good or better than Prozac -a medical claim for a device without FDA approval! Looking at this article (Amer. J. Psychiatry 2006, volume 163, pages 805-812), one finds that the study used a substantially different light therapy device: "The active light treatment consisted of daily exposure to a white fluorescent light box (Uplift Technologies Inc. [Dartmouth,N.S.], Model Daylight 10000, fitted with an ultraviolet filter and rated at 10,000 lux at a distance of 14 in from screen to cornea) for 30 minutes as soon as possible after awakening, between 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m." According Uplift's specifications, this device produces illumination at 4000 Kelvin color temperature (a slightly pinkish, white hue), and directs the light downward toward the eyes through a translucent diffusing filter. According to Nature Bright's specifications, their device produces 16,668 Kelvin color temperature (a cold blue hue), and the light is directed straightforward and upwards toward the eyes without a diffusion filter. The obvious result -as I have experienced -is intense visual glare. Certainly one cannot assume that the two devices would produce the same results, whether or not compared with Prozac.

I have tried MANY sleeping supplements and when I received this I was instantly intruiged because it referred to Delta waves. This is the sleep I have been trying to acheive for years. To me, it was very deceptive because 1. it didn't even relax me, much less help me sleep. I have been using it for two weeks now with no results. 2. The first time I chewed a whole piece I literally wanted to vomit because of the aftertaste. I'm the type of person who uses caffeine as a drug to stay focused. My friend, who was former military, gave me a pack of these to try. Let me just say that the military money gets results! I love this product and most highly recommend it! Unlike the cinnamon version of this product, I cannot taste any of the bitter caffeine taste. The sweet coating and mint flavor are excellent, and the gum maintains a pleasant mint flavor long after the caffeine is gone. By contrast, the cinnamon version completely loses all taste after 5-10 minutes and I want to spit it out. With the mint version, I actually enjoy continuing to chew the gum.

The screwy thing is the pricing: The 24-pack costs $2.00 more than buying four 6-packs ($28 vs. $26), so it's clear they've adjusted their pricing to make money on the "shipping costs." I have Amazon Prime, but instead of "free shipping" it's really "$2.00 shipping." This gum has been amazing for college. Let's face it, as a college student there are going to be many nights where you won't get the proper amount of sleep. Since I tend to have little self-control going to bed on time, I've had more than my share. For those days when I'm stuck in a 3-hour lecture trying to keep my eyes open, Stay Alert has always come through. About 10-12 minutes after popping one I immediately find myself more focused and the material interesting again. Of course, this is not a replacement for sleep and the effects are only good for a couple of hours (which is why I try to time it so I take it in the middle of a lecture). However, if you need a temporary "pick up", nothing beats it.

Now, on to the taste. Due to me having used this for a while, and probably also due to not having what you would call a refined palate, I don't mind it all. I enjoy the sugary taste at the beginning and the neutral taste for the duration. Still, I have to add that sometimes near the middle I'll get a taste that I can only compare to how car exhaust smells (which isn't a bad thing necessarily). Because of this, I highly recommend that you be careful about letting others try it. Around 90% of the people I've given a piece to will spit it out within 5 minutes (I had one fellow student comment that it tasted like stale cigarettes). Given that this is not exactly cheap, and I see them as extremely valuable due to the service they offer, I'll now only give out pieces after the receiver has sworn that they're going to chew it 10 minutes regardless of the taste (that way they'll get most of the effect). Otherwise, it'd be a complete waste.

At 51 years old. I have suffered for years with Sleep Apnea and "Excessive Daytime Sleepiness" I know it sounds like I made that up. When I was diagnosed with Excessive Daytime Sleepiness I told the doctor he made it up. Google it.

I take medication to counteract the Excessive Daytime Sleepiness but sometimes it just does not work. I will fall asleep in meetings or even while talking to someone in my office or on the phone. The story says that all the energy in 5 Hour Energy comes from the caffeine. Vitamins and supplements do not give you energy. Well I felt like an idiot, I have been buying 5 hour energy from Amazon for a while and I must admit, even with the discount from buying in large volume the cost was still high, and it was not a perfect solution. I would sometimes have to take more than one in a 5 hour period.

Well after seeing the 60 minutes story I used Google and found several studies performed for the Military that stated that the absorption of caffeine via the mouth is much faster than through the stomach or intestines. Makes sense to me, that is why cocaine users snort or dip the stuff instead of eating it. Anyway, long story short, I bought this product and it has saved my job and my life. Now if i feel tired I just pop one in my mouth and within minutes I am wide awake. The packaging is not going to win any awards for marketing but it does as advertised. I see a lot of competing products available in stores, Jolt! for instance, but I never even tried it. This one works and it is used by the military. I was intrigued enough to try it from the web site but after using it I can tell you this stuff is the real deal. The other big plus is the cost. 5 pieces per pack, 24 packs per box, $28 per box = just under a quarter ($0.25) per piece. That is a lot easier on the pocket than $2.00 per bottle for 5 hour energy. I can carry a packet in my pocket, keep a pack at my desk, one in my lunch box, one in my car, where ever I might need a piece. Much more convenient than when I was using 5 hour energy.

Finally, I have only tried the Arctic Mint flavor and it is not too bad. I do not notice the bad caffeine taste so many other reviewers are talking about but that is just me. In the end, regardless of the taste, it works when I need it to and it is easy to carry. By this point, if you are not convinced then you never will be.

Spa Sister Womens Cotton Moisture Enhancing Overnight Gloves

I purchased these gloves not for moisturizing my hands, but to protect them when I'm driving or riding my bike in the sun. My main concern was that they would be heavy or clumsy, but they fit like a second skin, are lightweight, grip well, and are extremely comfortable. I wear them for hours at a time without noticing I have them on, so I imagine they would be easy to sleep in. They wash like a dream. Will definitely buy more.

I was really ticked when the gloves arrived and the washing instructions were to "wash in cold water and lay flat to dry". CPAP Seal Gel Mask Straps

I have been a cpap user for a decade, I never found one I liked. They all leaked. This set up has allowed a full face mask to seal comfortably. REALLY SEALS!

The straps are well made and have stood up well. They are the BEST AND MOST DURABLE STRAPS I have ever used. The gel pads attach to the straps with a velco like connection. I never bothered, I just placed under the strap and tightened. The pads allowed me to tighten up the straps and still be comfortable. No neck pain, headaches, no face marks. The neck pad made the biggest difference. No longer fighting with the mask all night! No leaks! We all know cpap sealing is very individual; however, my son tried mine and then ordered a set for himself and has not been disappointed.

There were 2 disappointments. The sticky feeling did not improve with rinsing, as the company suggested. The stickyness helps hold it in place, but bothered me at times, may have led to tears, as I struggled in the dark to put the pads in place. The gels were shot in 6 months; discolored and torn. For this price, I expected them to last a little longer. That said, I REORDERED ANOTHER SET BECAUSE I LOVED THEM SO MUCH.

The manufacturer takes pride in their product. When they hear of my issues, I received an unsolicited email, asking about the issues, replaced the pads and asked me to evaluate a less sticky version. Very impressive.

This product does create moist heat (I wasn't sure that the whole "pulls moisture from the air" thing would pan out). It doesn't, however, stay hot for very long. It's pretty cool by the end of my five minute treatment.

Also, it's probably better for sinus issues than eye problems. The beads inside don't stay very well in the middle parts that sit on your eyes. Instead, they pool to the side.

I had Lasik Wavefront surgeries on both eyes, and one of my eyes feel quite dry at times. I was told that moist heat can open up and unclog oil glands, that's the reason why I purchased this sinus mask. Along with eye drops, this mask relieves my dry eye when I use it on a regular basis. So I do recommend this for anyone who suffers Lasik dry eyes syndrome.

I just received the hot/cold sinus mask today. It's not exactly as pictured.

This is not the sellers doing, the product doesn't even match the picture on

I ordered this product on January 5, 2009. I loved the product. I decided to order another one for my husband recently on March 9, 2009 and was totally surprised by what I received. It wasn't like the one I ordered previously. It didn't look the same (it was plain cream colored fabric on both sides without the Thermalon logo), and it wasn't the same size (it was shorter and wider), and it didn't work the same (it didn't hold the heat as well). What's going on here? I'm debating on whether I should return it. It doesn't make sense to me. If I had known they would substitute the item without notification I wouldn't have ordered another one. So be careful. You may not receive what the picture and description advertise.

I love this mask but it doesn't stay hot long enough. It's just lukewarm after about 30 minutes and I wish it stayed hot longer. I've used this mask only 4 or 5 times so far, and have felt very little pressure or swelling in my eyes during the day. I think it would be worth trying for anyone with sinus issues. SK II Facial Treatment Mask

I bought it on the flight from HK (cost $88 per package which is way cheaper than the retail price of $120 in the US). I'm not a big fan or believer of SK II but I'd like to try the mask since I have very dry skin. I just used one mask the other night while I was reading on bed. I have rosasea and am always reluctant to try new products. I am fairly certain these are not specifically designed to treat rosacea but if you have sensitive skin prone to redness don't let that stop you from trying these. They do work as advertised and actually reduce redness quite substantially. My skin is much more even for about a week after using, to the point that my husband notices and comments.

Better Breathe, Large Tan Nasal Strips -100 Ct - Open Your Nose, Breathe Better and Sleep Better, Re

I surely wanted these to be a replacement for the more expensive brand-name nasal strips. I'm rarely one to defend the brand-name of anything over generic versions, but in the end, these just don't stick as well.

I've used nasal strips for over five years now, every night, and even some days. I've had problems with others not sticking too: I could never use the clear versions, and the newer style shaped more like a boomerang also don't stick -it has to be the standard dog-bone shaped style. But those DO stick, as long as I obey the two tips of 1) wash your nose first, and 2) clamp the nasal strip on your nose for 20-30 seconds after putting it on.

Following those tips, I rarely had one come loose during the night, and could even re-use most strips a second time. I suspect the vendor knows these don't hold as well, since they automatically send a list of 3 tips after you order. Their first tip is like my first tip, but using 91% alcohol instead of water (alas, didn't help me); they also list my other tip, and their third tip is applying tape over the whole strip... an extra annoyance I never had to do before (not too pretty, either... but neither is a nasal strip, I guess)

If these were updated with more adhesive I'd try them again -but 'til then, I'll have to shell out the bigger bucks for the better stuff so I don't wake up staring at one side of the strip up in the air.

I was very skeptical about these seeing as how cheap they are compared to Breathe Right. These are Chinese clones of Breathe Right strips right down to the packaging, instructions and the way the strips look. Even the name is strikingly similar: Breathe Better. It's like they aren't even trying to pretend they are their own brand. If you hold a Breathe Better next to a Breathe Right strip, it is pretty challenging to tell the difference. As with all Chinese knockoffs, the instructions have some grammatical errors, so that may help you tell the difference ;)

But I really experimented a lot with these and here are my conclusions when compared to the brand name Breathe Right strips:

1. The spring action on these is slightly less than the BR strips my estimate is about 15-20% less. So while they do work, they open my nasal passages ever-so-slightly less than the BR strips.

2. The adhesive is strong just like with BR except that it leaves a very subtle and tolerable sticky residue on your nose. Unlike the BR strips, this adhesive does leave a sticky feeling on your nose, but I've tried other generic strips and this is really very minimal. Also some have complained that the strips come off their noses. I found that if I just wiped my nose firmly with my T-shirt before putting on the strips, the adhesion was excellent. My guess is that others that had problems simply didn't wipe the sweat off their nose. It's as simple as that.

3. These are made in China and yes, I verified that with the seller. Should you be concerned? I don't know. I tend to be concerned with just about anything coming out of China, Mexico, etc. These are places that put 100% of their effort in what looks and feels good to the consumer and 0% effort in safety. So who really knows what is in that adhesive that contacts your skin about 8 hours every night? Probably nothing, but there is a trust issue there and I can't get over my suspicions.

Overall, if you are hesitant about buying these as a BR replacement, I can assure you these are quite reasonable replacements and you are unlikely to be disappointed...especially considering they cost about half the BR strip cost. But if you are a bit concerned by Chinese products glued to your skin for 1/3 of your life (like me), and you want that extra oomph of nasal passage opening power without the slight sticky residue, then you might consider waiting for a good sale on BR strips and then stock up.

On the surface, these are the same as the actual Breathe Right strips. Same look, same feel, same size. But in using them, you'll notice they are not quite as good. The spring is not as strong, so it doesn't separate your nostrils quite as wide. It is still effective. Also, the adhesive is not as strong. While the actual Breathe Rights are more forgiving, these are not. I found you must get your nose absolutely clean and free of any oils before applying these. Otherwise they will not stick. Even after thoroughly cleaning my nose, I found these strips will still sometimes start to peel off by morning. However, given the much cheaper price, these strips are a fantastic buy and are still effective, with proper preparation before applying. I will definitely order them again. If the manufacturer improves the adhesive, it will definitely be 5 stars instead of 4.

I've tried almost every brand of nasal strip. These work just as good as Breath Right, if not better for me. I read some of these reviews regarding weak adhesive and its just not the case. I wash my face before bed (soap & water) and they stick each and every time. As a matter of fact, if I pull them off too quickly in the AM, they actually can take some skin with them so go slow. Definitely recommend them!!!

This works for me every night, and better than the Breathe Right stips which are way more expensive. For those of you who are having trouble with it stating on all night, the trick is to rinse your skin with water, then dry it with a towel before applying the strip (like the instructions say). I also run my fingernail along it to get a better seal. Works great for 12+ hours. You don't notice it working until you take it off and realize you can't breathe anymore.

Doesn't turn your skin orange at all. I find that this works best using half of my regular body lotion mixed with half of this tanning lotion. I always get less streaks this way yet plenty of color.

I have been dealing with insomnia most of my adult life and try as I may I have yet to resolve this issue. I read many of the reviews for the Nightwave Sleep Assistant and based on the more positives than negatives, I decided to give this gadget a try. There are many positive reviews that can explain what works about his unit so I'll keep this brief by explaining what I think they could improve:

* The speed, especially as I began to relax further, was too fast and I could not keep the one pace steady without adjusting my breath constantly which in the end was distracting and uncomfortable. Since people's metabolic rates are all different, they could have the pace adjustable within a healthy, restful range to accommodate a slightly slower or faster pace. Pacing control, with simple up/down arrows on either side of a center position "on" button would be a great, useable feature.

* An even better upgrade would be additional controls via a screen so you can change modes in the dark if your session times out or if you happen to wake up and need to restart a session. This box appears to be made on a *very* small budget and I'd feel better about the $50 price I paid if it were reflected better in the components.

* The time out/off settings could be longer; at times it has taken me literally hours to fall asleep and I had a hard time relaxing knowing I needed to "beat the clock" to fall asleep or it would shut off. A one hour setting would be helpful.

* I knew when I bought it that the unit requires your eyes open to follow the light but now in hindsight after trying the unit it seems less of a good idea; I have since found that there are eye masks that have a blue blinking light built in that *may* have the same effect as the Nightwave even with the eyes closed. I haven't tried a mask version yet because of the issue I had with keeping an imposed pace of breathing.

Unfortunately this unit in its current form did not work well for me.
