Mindfold Sleeping Mask

Mindfold Sleeping MaskMy initial rating was based on sleeping with this mask for a few days, and based only on the fact that it blocked out light better than my previous grocery store purchased sleep mask. However, other than that this mask is horrible in the comfort area. It's made of hard plastic on the outside and uncovered foam on the inside. It does block out light if you're lying on your back, but if you're a side sleeper you'll have hard plastic pressing against the side of your face, which can be distracting and occasionally even painful. After a week or two I threw this out and went looking again. Although it's twice as much, I found the perfect sleep mask: the Escape Luxury Sleep Mask by Dream Essentials. I've been using that one for two years and it's still perfect. Check my other reviews for a full review of the same mask (that color is no longer offered, but it's still available on Amazon in other colors if you search) for full details. It's easily twice the price of this mask, but soooo worth it!

I have been using the Mindfold for over 5 years on a daily basis. It was the perfect mask, but the fact that over the years the manufacturer has being making it thiner and thiner, makes it crack very easily. Now it does crack extremely easily speacially in the middle, and on the sides as also the elastic shape has changed.

It would be nice if the product would be produced using better standards like the previous ones (the mask use to last me a while, now the first crack is always in about a week of use).

Thanks,

MM

This mask does block the light really well, as advertised. But, my eyes must be just a little too big, because when I wear this mask, the very inner edges of the foam eye-cutouts rest on the very outer corners of my eyes, and that foam feels like sandpaper on an area as sensitive as that!

Seriously, rub along the very outer corners of your eyes... Can you image a foam edge, putting pressure (from the Velcro head-strap) right in the corners of your eyes? Now try sleeping like that.

I had to use another, soft sleep mask underneath this one, to pad it. Which of course interferes with REM sleep. I'm on here hoping to find a contoured sleep mask with bigger eye-holes...

I was honestly a bit disappointed upon receiving the mindfold. Unlike a fabric mask that I was expecting, this mask is made of PLASTIC and FOAM and seemed quite cheap and overpriced. However, it works very well and the plastic COMPLETELY blocks out light. With some adjustment on the nose bridge, you can have total darkness even in a brighly lit room. No fabric eyenask that I've used has been able to duplicate the Mindfold's effects.

For that reason, and that reason alone, I recommend the mask and give it 5 stars, because even if it looked really posh and expensive, if it couldn't block out light it's worthless.

Now, some of my (and perhaps soon to be your) personal gripes:

You may feel a little foolish putting this mask on in public (which is, for most people, the point). It covers most of your face, and with the foam eye cupes, I feel slightly bug-eyed when I wear it. And it prominently displays the logo so you can be a sleeping billboard and have people stare at your forehead for a few seconds while you doze. Again, it does look pretty cheap and flimsy, though so far it has held up well in flight. I felt it was overpriced.

Also, a thumbs up to the seller Maxi-Aids, there are a few other sellers on Amazon selling this mask, but I trust Maxi-Aids the most reliable!

Looked like what I need but there is a down side or two. Excellent at blocking light, however the frame is stiff plastic. When I lie down on my pillow the relative inflexibility of the frame pushes the whole thing out of place. The foam lining is very soft, but is BARE, uncovered foam and is irritating against the delicate skin whenever I move. Why isn't there a soft fabric cover or something similar? Bad design for this purpose. Thumbs down, I'm afraid.

Boiron Quietude (60 Tablets) ( Multi-Pack)

Boiron Homeopathic Medicine Quietude Tablets for Restless Sleep, 60-Count BoxesI had a few nights that I was having problems. I used it the first night and slept. The next night, I didn't use it. The third night, I didn't follow the instructions so I woke up during the middle of the night. It works correctly when I follow the directions. I don't use it every night, but it is well worth it.

This is a great alternative to prescription or over the counter medecine. Works great with no side effects. Get it.

For me this product works better than Ambien. It is probably much safer and less habit-forming. I won't be without it.

I like, no love, some of the other Boiron products. Not this one.

I have very disturbing and vivid nightmares when I take this. Who knows why?

Moreover, it does not seem to help me get to sleep any faster. And once I do get to sleep, it is really not what you would call restful.

This stuff does truly work if you have a restless mind at night and can't quite get to sleep. You'll need to take it 1-3 times before going to bed to give it time to work as it is not like a sleeping pill. Also, I have been told that you'll ruin the action of this stuff if you put anything (especially mints) in your mouth 30 minutes before taking or 15 minutes after taking.

BRAIN PHARMA Happy Dreams - 30 Tabs

BRAIN PHARMA Happy Dreams - 30 TabsThese are awesome! I don't know how this product acts when you use long term. I came across the individual packets containing 1 pill. I have a horrible time falling and staying asleep, I don't remember my dreams if i have them at all and I have to MAKE myself wake up everyday. I have tried several narcotic and over the counter meds for these problems and nothing works. This 1 pill actually gave me a pretty good buzz! THAT WAS A NICE SUPRISE! But I was able to fall asleep quite quickly. I woke up in the same position I fell asleep in (which NEVER happens) had great dreams and was able to recall them when I awoke refreshed the next morning, which also never happens. Im SO glad amazon has these because I have only found them in a smoothy king 3hrs away! I just got a BIG bottle! I'll write back and let you guys know about taking this product more than 1 time.

Skeptical at first, and am concerned about long term use. HOWEVER...I have been using them in the last days to "reset" myself in my sleeping patterns and to help with a bit of depression. And WOW. I am sleeping peacefully and now waking up ready to start the day. Again, I have concern over the ingredients melatonin, and 5htp. Both of these ingredients are somewhat controversial. Melatonin is a hormone that is not available over the counter in Britain for a reason, and 5htp had a bad rap years ago and is not recommended by doctors. I have heard the truest concerns are about these chemicals in higher doses. Either way, I caution anyone using these chemicals on their own and especially combined. In my case the immediate benefit has outweighed the risks. But I will not stay on it for longer than a week, two most.

Prior to trying Happy Dreams, I always struggled falling asleep and there were many nights where I did not sleep at all. I have always been weary of trying prescription medications so when I saw Happy Dreams, which is all natural, I thought I would give it a try. Since I have been taking it, I have been sleeping much better. I strongly recommend it.

We have purchased these for a couple of years, usually from another vitamin type store and not online. This time by the time we had a third of the bottle left the pills started to smell toxic and like sewage. The smell was so bad that I could hardly open the bottle. I call the manufacturer, Pharma, and they told me that they would do nothing about the smell and they refused to give me any information about the product. Pharma's remedy was to call the Amazon store to return the product. Sorry Pharma, you lost me.

I discovered this product when I was on jury duty about 6 months ago, I was on a long trial and attempting to work before and after court as well so my sleep schedule was getting crazy. I prefer natural products, but was ready to go get regular old sleeping pills when a good friend who travels internationally for work recommended a combination he swears by now I see why! I have never had a sleep aid work this well ever. The Brain Pharma HAPPY DREAMS, helps you fall asleep very gently and naturally. The Natrol Sleep N Restore Tablets helps you both stay asleep and wake up truly rejuvenated and refreshed. The The Brain Pharma HAPPY DREAMS and Natrol Sleep N Restore combination is also gentle enough that even while in Chemotherapy (when you can't take other drugs for fear interactions) my Oncologist read over both labels and said they were absolutely fine to use during my Chemo. SO SO happy to have something for when I can't sleep. (FYI The Sleep N Restore smells awful from the valerian root. Tip: Hold your breath before you open the individual blisters and swallow quickly so you don't have to smell it!)

Weight Watchers Activelink Activity Monitor Brand New

Weight Watchers Activelink Activity Monitor Brand New
  • Must Have an Active Weight Watchers Online Account Or E-Tools Subscription
  • You Also Have To Pay An Extra $5 Subcription Fee To Link This Monitor To Your Account
  • Can Not Be Returned Once The Seal On Box Is Opened

I love the activity monitor. I think why people are having problems is that you have to get your base activity in before it gives you activity points. For example, I can walk 4 miles in a hour and get 0 points but it does say I met something like 40% of my goal for the day. Then as I do other stuff around the house, since I have met my base activity level, it starts to add on AP.

However, if I do household stuff first, running up and down the stairs doing laundry and so on, then I go on my 1 hour walk, when I am done it will say 5 points or whatever I earned that day. It is not making a mistake, it is just in one case it starts at 0% the walks meets my baseline goal and another day if I have already met my baseline, it starts adding on AP.

I love how it integrates into my WW page, on a tab next to where I log my food. I love how it doesn't come off like a pedometer does. It stays put.

In my opinion there are two negatives.

1. I wish I could still add AP manually. One day I accidentally took it off when I changed clothes after my walk and for the rest of the day it recorded zero. I would have loved to add the points I earned.

2. I wish it was cheaper per month. $5 seems a bit high to me, but it has encouraged me to be more active.

All in all a good tool... I walk more; I park further away from the store; I don't mind when I have to run upstairs a second time because I forgot something the first time and so on.

Buy Weight Watchers Activelink Activity Monitor Brand New Now

The only activity that the ActiveLink seems to assess correctly for me is running. One hour of high intensity Circuit Training doesn't give me any points (!) and I can tell you that it's at least as intense as jogging. When I am through ActiveLink shows only 16 minutes of *moderate* activity. Naming my activity and changing the intensity level on the website does nothing.

I also agree with Jessica: "The WORST flaw? You are married to the device. You cannot manually add APs on eTools." There is no way to manually correct the erroneous results from ActiveLink.

Before I bought it, I liked the fact that it is waterproof, but I also get zero points for an hour of swimming so there's not much point in wearing it when I swim.

I have been on Live Chat and called the Support Number. Both have told me they cannot help me. The next level up of support is supposed to be contacting me next week.

I wanted to use this device to automatically measure my Activity Points it has been a big disappointment.

The problem is that if you are more sedentary than you think you are, your activity will still be "underwater" until you meet your base activity level. I thought I was getting 4-5 Activity Points Plus per day due to my exercise, but I spent the rest of the day sitting, so I'd have maybe one or two points of REAL activity per day.

You can't deceive yourself about how much activity you are getting per day. I've had this activity monitor for 3 months now, and it's been great; I've increased my activity from under 2 points per day to 5 points per day.

If you think the monitor is not working correctly, re-read the materials at the WW website or on the ActiveLink webpages. I think you'll find that you were mistaken about how it calculates points, and after you understand that, you'll find it does what it is supposed to do.

Want Weight Watchers Activelink Activity Monitor Brand New Discount?

Love it love it love it. Yes it calculates your activity points after your base amount of activity but the point of this monitor is to encourage and push you past your comfort zone. The instructions for the monitor clearly tell you NOT to increase activity during the assessment period but rather to just do your normal routine. Since wearing the monitor for several weeks I went from a weight gain/loss slump to three consecutive weight loss weeks. I believe this monitor is solely responsible for that.

Since I bought this device almost six months ago, I have had nothing but trouble. I did the 8-day assessment, and at the time weighed 30 lbs more than I do now. My activity level was almost non-existent. After the assessment, I started walking after work, increasing over time up to 4 miles a day. The very most I ever earned? 1 point. Yes, I know that you have to complete your baseline before you can start earning activity points, but from zero activity to 4 miles a day and just 1 point? Also note that many days I didn't earn ANY points. I brought the issue to my Weight Watchers lecturer, and she suggested that I repeat the assessment, but only wear it for part of the day so my baseline would be lower. I then wore it for the last four hours at work, which I now end up walking at least a mile. At the end of the 8 days, it said that there was not enough information to calculate a baseline. So then I repeated the assessment the third time, and wore it for 8 hours of my 10-hour work day. It recalculated my baseline, but the most I would ever earn when I did 4 miles was 2 points, but on most days I would earn zero points. One day I actually walked 8 miles, and I only earned 1 point! It is very inconsistent, and I also do not like the fact that it over rides your ability to calculate activity points. I misplaced it for about two weeks and during that time I could not earn any activity points, nor could I calculate points earned from walking a certain distance.

Today was the final straw. I wore it to work and by 10:00 I had earned one light of the six lights needed to earn one point. I then went for a walk and checked again after lunch and guess what? No lights are now illuminated and it is fully charged. So I called Philips technical support and the guy said that my problem was that I needed to do my baseline before I would start earning points. I asked him why one light (1/6th of the way to one point) was illuminated and three hours later it wasn't, and he told me that the lights don't mean anything! He also said that if I plug in the device more than once into my computer it will nullify any points earned. What? That make no sense at all, is contrary to the user's guild plus my computer with the Activelink software is at home so I only plug it in once a day anyway, when I get home from work. He then said that I wasn't meeting my baseline and that's why I wasn't earning any points.

A total waste of time and money. I am very angry and from the reviews here, my experience has not been unique. I am complaining to Weight Watchers, Philips and even the FCC to see where it takes me. I am a technical person, a lifetime member of WW for over 30 years and used to calculate activity points the "old-fashioned" way. So I know what activity points I should be earning and I know what my baseline is. This device works randomly if at all! DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!!!!

Laxman Light and Sound Mind Machine Innertainment System

Laxman Light and Sound Mind Machine Innertainment SystemI owned an "inner quest" from sharper image for years and thought it was an excellent drug free stress reducer. The Laxman is light years away in comparison. I have had the machine for only a couple of days and have used it 6 times already. It is a pure enjoyment to relax and unwind after a long day at the office. The open eye experience is amazing and the subtle relaxation from this machine is unmatched. The unit is metal, the goggles are high density rubber, this machine is simply made to last.

For the price it should have come with better ear phones, I'd recommend purchasing better one. The color goggles are very easy on the eyes. Some of the audio transitions are abrupt and startle you out of your meditation trance.

I really feel they could have done better with the product for the price.

"Top of the line", "state of the art" -sort of -if you want to add your own sessions, it requires a MINI SD card that it rather difficult to find (eBay sells a few ). There's plenty of room in the case for the regular cards, so this is poor design and it really needs to be upgraded. The session editor could be improved in several ways, such as enabling exact frequencies of choice rather than only the standard 440A scale. Also, the ganzfeld goggles need to be larger with better padding/seal around the edges. The LED system could well be replaced with video goggles to enable unlimited programming, such as images ( yantras, words &c ) and the full spectrum of html colors. The earbuds suck. A total headset ( integrated goggles & earphone ) would be nice, if only as an optional accessory. Oh well.., some other decade perhaps... I've been waiting 35 years for this and I can't make one myself, so I'll make do. After all, it is very effective anyway....

Essential Source Sweet Dream Strips - 24 Fast Dissolving Strips

Essential Source Sweet Dream Strips - 24 Fast Dissolving StripsThese sleep strips work very well for me and my partner without making us feel groggy the next morning! I always wake up feeling like I had a really deep and restful sleep, which is not otherwise the case. Sure, they don't taste great, but the taste far from bad enough to keep us from using them almost nightly. Aside from their efficacy, these strips also gives us extremely vivid dreams!

I've been using the Sweet Dream sleep strips for about six months and they are great. The taste is different, but I rather like it. It's the best natural product I've used. It's not going to be helpful in extreme situations, but together with good bedtime habits, it's very effective.

The Body Shop Wise Woman Regenerating Night Cream, 1.7-Fluid Ounce

The Body Shop Wise Woman Regenerating Night Cream, 1.7-Fluid OunceExcellent product. I have been using it for at least six months now. My face feels softer and hydrated when I wake up in the morning. The Body Shop store near me has just closed so I am very happy I can order it from Amazon. The price is the same as the store. If you have dry skin I would highly recommend it.

It's okay for hydration, but it has a perfume smell--not a nice natural smell, but a kind of offensive smell that they've added to the ingredients. I bought it at The Body Shop where it was only $10, so I don't understand the pricing here.

Huggies Overnites Diapers Size 4 Jumbo Pack , 27 DiapersWe prefer Pampers Swaddlers for both our 5mo and 17mo olds for the day, but Pamper's night diapers end in pee pee leaks far too often. The Huggies night diapers are the most reliable we've tried, and we've tried several brands.

These were recommended to us by several friends (especially parents of little boys) when our little guy starting sleeping on his stomach. He would constantly wake up crying, soaking wet and we were changing everything, either in the middle of the night or in the morning. Now when he gets up, his diaper feels about 5 lbs! But no leaks. They work great. We also use them for flying and long road trips. As long as there's no #2, he can easily wear them for the 10-12 hours.

Ichill Relaxation Shot Blissful Berry Flavor (2 Fl Oz.) 2 Pack

Ichill Relaxation Shot Blissful Berry Flavor 2 PackThis is my first time ever trying a relaxation energy shot, given that I normally drink energy shots to give me energy. When I got the Ichill shots in the mail yesterday, I decided I'd take a taste of one of them just to see what it tasted like.. In the "taste department", it was great.. No "medicine like" taste to it what so ever.. Kinda tasted like blueberries sweet blueberries.. I only took a small "sip" (probably about a teaspoon full) and in just a couple of minutes, I was about ready to SLEEP.. I started feeling like sleep was definitely on the horizon. When it was finally convenient for me to sleep a little bit (about three hours after taking that sip of Ichill), I took a nap for about an hour or so.. When I woke up, I felt really good.. No side-effects, no groggy feeling, nothing.. Woke up refreshed and ready to continue on with my business..

On another note the seller I bought this from shipped it really quick and I got it significantly quicker than I thought I would, which was definitely great! The transaction, seller and the product all were top-notch and I would definitely buy from this seller again. Not only that, but I WILL definitely be buying more Ichill again later on!

**TEN out of a possible five STAR product, seller, and transaction!**

Thank you!

Replacement frame for medium comfort gel nasal-- no headgear

Replacement frame for medium comfort gel nasal-- no headgearWhat you get is what is picturedthe frame and the gel cushion. I have gotten tired of spending $80 and for a CPAP mask (I use nasal masks) and having to pitch it after a few months use because the gel gets punctured. With this I can replace the gel part for $12. The gel is not quite as cushy as a profile lite, but after adjusting the straps it is just fine.

While the product is the right replacement model and size for my needs, I was disappointed that the mask did not include the gel pillow as shown on the picture. The mention of "no headgear" further suggests that the gel pillow would be included. Since anybody could see that the picture does not show the headgear but shows the gel pillow one would expect that what is represented by the picture is what is offered.

Buy Replacement frame for medium comfort gel nasal-- no headgear Now

I bought this as a replacement for a Respironics medium frame. The problem with my old/original one was the plastic loops on the sides for the top bands of the headgear were breaking, and finally the "bracket" where the over-the-nose portion of the frame connected to the head cushion had cracked, such that "one wrong move" caused the two pieces to separate (very annoying). Also, on the original, the exhale/exhaust vent was molded as part of the connector for the tube, in such a way that the outgoing airflow was directed along/towards the tube. This could get annoying, as it would sometimes blow air on my face (or on the cat sleeping next to me, which was trying to stay warm, which didn't help).

What I like about this one in particular, in comparison to my original, is that there is a perforated vent, right about where the 90° bend is, that directs the exhale/exhaust airflow directly away from the mask functionally, upwards/vertically away from me (and the cat) while lying on my back. It makes me think the person who (re)designed this one either listened to customer complaints/remarks about the old design, or perhaps uses one of these themselves. Regardless, the change in airflow direction alone is a great improvement.

Note: As the product description reads, "headgear not included" (not an issue), but it does include a medium gel cushion and "cover" (the piece that holds the gel cushion in place).

Traditional Medicinals - Organic Tea, 16 ea

Traditional Medicinals - Organic Chamomile, 16 bagThis product is 25% chamomile by weight, as noted in fine print on the side of the box. Though it may be beneficial for many people, someone who is pregnant, asthmatic, or who has pollen allergy should proceed with caution and not consume chamomile without understanding potential health effects. A caution is given on the package: "If pregnant or breast-feeding, ask a health professional before use."

I had been searching for "organic ginger tea" and arrived at this product. I was thinking that the ginger might help to relieve episodes of nausea. Many other brands contain lemon or other ingredients to which I am allergic. Golden Ginger Tea's product description at Amazon and at Traditional Medicinals website did not mention any other ingredient, so I thought this would be a safe choice for me. It was only after receiving my order that I became aware of the chamomile, one of my allergens.

There seem to be differing online opinions about the safety of chamomile in various situations. In case it may help someone else to make a more-informed decision, this is from a website that promotes health:

"There are some reports that Roman and German chamomile can cause a miscarriage... Medical sites urge pregnant women not to use chamomile."

"Although women have used chamomile for morning sickness, Medline recommends that pregnant women avoid it. Taking large amounts by mouth could cause nausea or even miscarriage. Everyone should use caution when taking chamomile because of the possibility of a life-threatening allergic response. Anaphylactic shock can occur, especially in people with a ragweed allergy or an allergy to other members of the daisy family including daisies, marigolds and chrysanthemums."

After-the-fact I found that Traditional Medicinals makes an organic ginger tea that is pure ginger with no additional ingredients. It is very good. I've been drinking that version lately and recommend it for anyone who needs to avoid chamomile.

Mirage Swift Headgear Buckle

Mirage Swift Headgear BuckleI'm a side sleeper. I use the buckles to help keep my CPAP straps tight and in place.

Because I'm a side sleeper and I tend to switch sides through out the night, the velcro straps on the CPAP mask would get loosened up or let go completely, making for a non-restful night's sleep.

The buckles help to keep the straps firmly in place.

Very Good product!!

Sundown Super Snooze with Melatonin Nightime Formula Capsules, 90 Count

Sundown Super Snooze with Melatonin Nightime Formula Capsules, 90 CountI don't have chronic or serious insomnia, but I do occasionally have sleepless nights due to worry, stress, or other factors. I love Super Snooze. It contains a combination of herbal and other natural ingredients, all known to assist in relaxation. It doesn't leave me feeling groggy in the morning, even when I take it in the middle of the night.

I have had sleep issues for years. I have used many melatonin supplements, advil pm, ambien, etc. I do not like to use ambien all the time but it is hard to come off of it. I saw this at my rite aid store and I thought gee what a cheap looking supplement. I thought it looked too cheap to be effective. I bought it and was so surprised at how well it worked! A previous reviewer noted that it is best to take 2 hrs before bed, that is correct. It is also extra effective if at the same time you take a magnesium and calcium supplement. This product worked better for me than an expensive version of it from Whole Foods. Also helps get me off ambien. Ambien has been prescribed for me because of dealing with my daughter's health issues.

if you read my reviews, you will see I have an 11 yr old girl that has been ill this past year with small intestine problems.. Nights can be hard for her, but it is not advised to give sleep aids to a child. I understand this but sometimes you have to give relief where you can. I would give her a half of an advil pm but that made her groggy and hard to wake up. I tried one of these super snooze on her and the one capsule was too much. I do buy empty 00 capsules to make her supplements, so one day i opened up one of these capsules and made her a half dose of it. Gave it to her 2 hrs prior to bed along with her intestine supplements without telling her that I had given her something. (this is to keep her from mentally thinking she needs a supplement to help her sleep). Worked like a charm! She was reading before bed then just said good night and went to sleep. No bIg dramatic 'oh my goodness I feel so sleepy' and then clunk she is out, just a natural time for bed sleepiness. We only use occasionally when we see there might be some pain issues in the night. This helps us avoid having to give her advil to manage the pain....anti inflammatories help her pain but are ultimately bad for her gi issues. Catch 22, right? If she has had a tough week and has needed it more than a couple of times, on Friday and Saturday night I let the kids stay up as late as they want playing/reading until she fallsl asleep naturally. This breaks her cycle of needing it.

I want to note that my daughter has improved SO much this past year and it is in part due to the fact that I have done a crapload of research and have learned about supplements and foods that heal as opposed to just giving my child harsh drugs the drs try and throw at you. They want to manage symptoms but I am looking at long term healing. The drugs they want an 11 yr old to take! They grudgingly admit when I bring her in that she has healed much faster than they expected. You know what else helped? Reading TONS of reviews here on amazon from people who have tried stuff, see what works or doesn't. There are alternatives ways to heal. I know it is easier to just hope the doc writes THE prescription that will make it all better but that is not always the case.

love this stuff, it's a life saver. I have problems falling asleep at night once I get to sleep I sleep like a log, but it takes a while for me to get to sleep. These things knock me right out. I take a pill and within 15 minutes my eyelids are heavy and I'm ready for bed, sleeping soundly throughout the night. Only negative is the pills make you pee, so if you have a small bladder you might not make it through the night any time I have to get up to use the bathroom after taking one of these I fall right back to sleep no problem not so if I don't take one. This and SleepyTime Tea are the only things that help me sleep I've tried dozens of sleep aides, and the natural ingredients are the only things that work

I started using Super Snooze Melatonin by Sundown Naturals after multiple spinal and orthopaedic injuries and surgeries and IT REALLY WORKS! Before I found this product, doctors prescribed common pharmacological sleep aids all with morning side effects of feeling hung over, extra tired, no energy. On my own I discovered Super Snooze Melatonin by Sundown Naturals and I swear by it. You get a restful, relaxed sleep and wake up so refreshed, clear-headed, ready for the day, and better able to handle stress. It's Gold to me. Anyone who suffers fom chronic insomnia should try this. It's all natural. I have endured so many side effects from prescription drugs over the years since a truck hit me (some drug side effects hospitalized me). After, I sought out non-pharmacological remedies and this is one I advocate anyone with severe insomnia and chronic pain should try. Try one capsule first about 1 hour before bedtime, in addition to creating a serene, stress-free sleeping environment. I am 5 feet 8 inches, 139 pounds, sensitive/allergic to most prescription drugs (and food products too), but I take 2 capsules a night of Sundown Naturals Super Snooze Melatonin and get the best sleep (including REM) of my life. It's worth trying. It says on the label "wake up refreshed" and I swear that is exactly what I am finally able to experience after years of taking prescribed meds. I hope Sundown continues to make this amazing, helpful product. I hope insomniacs and those who live with chronic pain like me try this product. A true lifesaver.

Philips HF3480 Wake-up Light

Philips HF3480 Wake-up LightI was actually about to give this a five-star review. Barring a few ease-of-use problems, and things I thought should be customizable but were not, I was immensely satisfied. It would not be an overstatement to say that this unit provided the best wake-ups I'd ever experienced, and in long, dark winters, that's incredibly valuable. A few days ago, that's the review I would have written.

Unfortunately, today, it did not turn on to wake me up. The birds were singing, but the light was off. I was confused. I fiddled with it all morning before the sad truth dawned on me. The built-in light bulb was dead, broken or defective. After a month of use, my wonderful new alarm clock no longer functioned.

As it stands, this is a soulbreaker. I realize these things happen, but, as a reviewer, I have to be honest about it. I don't know how frequently this occurs, but potential buyers should be aware, even if this scores me "unhelpful" votes. I was unable to ascertain how to replace the lighbulb, if it's even possible, or what the cost of such a replacement would be.

I'm saddened and dismayed to have to submit this. I thoroughly enjoyed waking up with this alarm clock, but if its longevity is so brief, I cannot recommend it, and unless that somehow changes, this review will remain, unfortunately, as is.

If I have any luck with Philips tech support and/or replacing the bulb, I will gladly change this review and go back to joyously using the product.

UPDATE: While I was hoping to return with a customer service success story, it's simply not the case. I used Philips appropriate website, described my issue in detail, and gave them all my information. I was told I'd receive a reply within a day, but it's been two, and I've received none. For a product at this pricepoint, bulbs that cease functioning after a month (which would be outside Amazon.com's return policy) and unresponsive customer service is unacceptable. If I'd purchased this outright, I would be extremely upset. As it stands, I'm rather displeased and now have to shop for a hopefully much more reliable replacement.

++++Unhappy Update: The bulb died. I called Philips. The rep sweet talked me; saying I would soon have a replacement lamp and prepaid labels to ship back the dead unit. As the audible alarm still worked, I continued to wake up on time. Sadly, although it is now several weeks later, Philips has not done a thing. Worse yet, the darn thing made me late for work when the audible alarm, without any warning, stopped working. It is disappointing that Philips seems not to stand behind this product.++++

++++Update on June 14, 2010: I've given up on getting a free replacement lamp or bulb. I have to believe Philips is not sending me a new lamp because I got mine through the Amazon Vine program. I really miss the lamp.+++++

The Philips HF3480 promises to wake one gently from a night's sleep. And that's exactly what it does for me. During the 30 minutes before the alarm's set wake-up time, the Philips' lamp gradually increases in brightness, to a user set level, until one simply wakes up with (or without) the help of a pleasing audible alarm.

Out of the box, the unit has a sleek appearance; most unlike a typical alarm clock. For now, the Philips has a home on top of a hard back book on my night stand. As per the instructions, it is about 16 inches from the center of my pillow. Set up was quick and intuitive. 3 function selectors control all lamp's setup functions. By pressing and moving the selectors, one can change light intensity, set the time, and choose one of the audible alarms. It took me less than five minutes to remove the HF3480 from the box, set its functions, and position it on my night stand. The test feature allows one to get a preview of the lamp intensity and alarm volume; allowing one to easily adjust those levels, if necessary.

With the lights off, the time is illuminated by a soft, pleasing pale orange glow. Unlike my inexpensive Sony Dream Machine (a great basic alarm clock) Sony ICF-C218 Automatic Time Set Clock Radio (Black) the Philips does not overly light the room. The real joy of the Philips, though, is in waking up to its warm light and relaxing preset sounds. So far, my favorite wakeup sound are the meditative, gently wakeful sounds of the wind chimes. The bird sounds are pleasant, as well. Although I enjoy the sound of the jungle drums (the Jungle Sounds setting) I am not eager to wake up to them; at least not yet. The radio functionality works well, especially with the lengthy antenna. However, I prefer not to wake up to radio sounds so I do not use it.

With the default brightness and volume settings, I wake up to a warmly bright room with the sounds of gentle chimes filling my mind. It is a near perfect waking up experience. My body took the entire 30 minutes until the actual set wake time to rouse itself from sleep. It feels incredibly easy and natural to wake up this way. The snooze function will give an additional 10 minutes of light (without the audible alarm). For me, however, the wakeup is so invigorating I rarely use the snooze function.

The Philips HF3480 is a great product. For those willing to spend the money, it will certainly deliver the promised wake-up experience.

Like many others, my light bulb burnt out within a few months. Rather than send it back and get another one that will burn out just like my last one and wait a few months for the whole process, I took matters into my own hands and started taking it apart.

Here is how you replace the light bulb.

-Remove 4 rubber pads on feet and remove 4 screws.

-Try and not break plastic as you start prying the cover apart at the seams(I had to cut mine in one spot above the controls to get it to come off).

-Remove cover.

-Inside you'll see another white cover, remove the 4 screws and then the cover.

-Remove 4 small screws holding two white brackets that hold the cfl bulb down.

-Remove the two white brackets.

-Remove the metal jacket that covers the cfl bulb.

-Bend two black plastic clips back and start prying bulb off base.

-Use a flathead screwdriver to free the cfl bulb pins from the receptacles on the circuit board.

For installation just go in the reverse order.

The light bulb is a standard CFL 4 pin G24q-3 base, 26W/827.

I found one made by Sylvania at Lowe's for $7. Hopefully the Sylvania bulb lasts longer than the Philips.

From what I understand, CFL bulbs are not meant to be dimmed, they need to be full on or off to get the expected life out of them. I suspect the gradually brightning of the bulb by the alarm clock is what makes the bulb life so short.

The metal jacket that went around the bulb did not fit perfectly over my new bulb so I just clipped the wire and threw it away. The light still works with it removed. The CFL has mercury inside of it so dispose of it accordingly.

Hopefully this helps some other people bring their wake up lights back to life.

***1-8-10 Update***

I really liked this device initially. I gave it five stars in my original review because it worked like a charm and it was such a wonderful alternative to traditional alarm clocks. Both my wife and I loved it. Unfortunately, like many other users, mine eventually malfunctioned prematurely. I got nearly four months of great use and reliable wake-ups, but the light failed to turn on this morning. It worked for my wife, however, when she reset the clock for my wake-up, the light dimmed for good (by the way, dual alarms might be a good idea for the next version, as well as obviously increasing reliability or making the light user-replaceable). Attempts to get the light working again were futile. Given the number of complaints about the light prematurely failing, there is obviously an issue with this device. I can no longer recommend this until/unless this issue is resolved. It's such a shame because it really is a great device when it works. Unfortunately, I would not invest in an unreliable device with so many complaints for the same issue. I have not yet called Philips, so their warranty repair service had no impact on this modified review. If I could rate it again, I'd give it one star. Although I don't "hate" the device, there is just no way I could recommend such an unreliable product, especially since the bulb is not user-replaceable. After being spoiled, I now have to retrieve my old irritatingly loud alarm clock until Philips resolves the issue. It's not worth the substantial risk to purchase this. It's not even simply the fact that the light is not user-replaceable. I have several devices with internal lighting that may or may not go south one day (laptops, LCD TV's, iPods, etc). The difference is, these items have been reliable for years. The wake-up light apparently has a problem merely lasting six-months for a lot of folks.

Original review left intact below, so you can see how I felt when it worked

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've used an extra loud (literally the name of the device) alarm clock for the past four years. Even then, I still usually hit the snooze at least twice every morning. I also started using a Philips GoLite Blu light therapy device during the fall and winter months last year. I find it helps with my sleeping issues as well as seasonal affective disorder. I usually have little trouble waking early in the spring and summer, when days are longer and the sun rises earlier. Light is nature's alarm clock and it just happens to be the best there is. Fall and winter have always been my difficult seasons. While the GoLite Blu has helped tremendously, it's more like an energy boost after you use it. I still needed my ear-piercing alarm clock for mornings. I was very eager to give the Philips wake-up light a try. After receiving the device, I followed the quick setup instructions, adjusted the settings, and selected my desired wake tone. The menu was simple to use. There are four selectable tones you can wake to. I selected what the device specifies as "African Jungle", although it sounds more like a warm Caribbean steel drum tone. It seemed to have the best mix of loudness while still being relaxing. I set the volume at 15 (goes to max of 20). Afterward, I tested the device in demo mode and will admit, I initially had my concerns. It was three in the afternoon and the light was almost completely washed out by the afternoon sunlight. Also, even at 15, the drums sounded quiet and a little too soothing for me to believe they would be capable of waking me. Fearing it might not work, I set my old alarm clock to go off five minutes after the wake light (little did I know, I'd never need the old alarm again). The next morning, I actually woke after the light started glowing dimly, but before audible alarm of the wake up light. When I realized the audible alarm hadn't yet sounded, I looked at the time and saw I had an additional 15 minutes to sleep. As the light got brighter and brighter I could gradually feel myself awakening more until I heard the soft sound of the drums begin very quietly and gradually raise in volume until reaching my preset maximum loudness. The best part is, due to the gradual awakening instead of the abrupt snatch-you-out-of-your-sleep-like-a-baby-out-of-the-womb waking I'm used to, I had no lingering drowsiness and I did not feel the need to hit the snooze once. I merely flipped the alarm lever to "Off" and hopped out of bed, feeling surprisingly refreshed and well-rested instead of groggy. It was like waking naturally on a weekend.

I can happily report that I had the same result the remainder of the week. By the third day, I didn't get to bed until 2am. The wake-up light still managed to wake me at 5:30 with only one press of the snooze button. Not only did I only have to press it once, I woke on my own before the 9-minute snooze period was up. (By the way, the pre-determined snooze time is non-adjustable).

I see there are some concerns about the light being non-user replaceable. While I completely understand this very valid concern, it's also a chance we take with many things. We don't know if that $400 MP3 player or digital camera will function as long as we hope. The most popular (and expensive) line of MP3 players still come with non-user replaceable batteries (and backlights). LCD televisions and laptops all use backlights, so you're putting your trust in the life of a lamp at some point for many things. This light comes with a two-year manufacturer warranty, so you can take comfort in the fact that you will get at least two years of use out of it. If you're really worried, purchase it with a gold or platinum credit card and you can tack on a third year of warranty coverage free of charge. I'm not certain this is a deal breaker.

So far, I can't really find any negatives (other than maybe not being the most aesthetically pleasing device to some people. My wife says it looks like a humidifier with a dot matrix clock on the side). Philips light therapy products have really impressed me up to this point. You see so many rip-offs and health products promising results that usually don't deliver. Just like the GoLite Blu (which still impresses me after a year of ownership), this wake-up light does what it says it will do. Of course, everyone's chemistry is different and I can't predict it will necessarily work for everyone. I just know, after four years I'm glad I no longer feel like I want to shoot straight up out of bed and cling to the ceiling by my claws like a scared cat when my super-loud alarm clock goes off in the mornings.

Want Philips HF3480 Wake-up Light Discount?

Be warned. I have gone through two of these in so many months and am now waiting to receive my third (under warranty for replacement but beyond the point for a cash refund). Both times the light has failed. I believe this product is inherently poorly designed and problem prone and would reinforce other reviews that say that controls are unnecessarily complicated. I enjoyed the wake up light function...while it worked (sarcasm). All I can do now is hope the third one works without problem. This product could be improved with the inclusion of a back-up battery in case of power outages, and of course correcting the electrical problem that causes the light to die prematurely.

Update: The third one malfunctioned in the same way. When Phillips Customer Service learned that it was my third malfunctioning unit they offered a replacement or a cash refund. They even admitted they were having problems with the product. I purchased the product with Amazon and it was still within the warranty period. I took the cash refund and am waiting for delivery of the check at this time.

Dream Essentials® EscapeTM Luxury Sleep Mask with Eye Cavities, Free Earplugs and Carry Pouch

Dream Essentials Escape Luxury Travel and Sleep Mask with Earplugs and Carry Pouch, BlackI've tried the whole line of Dream Essential sleep masks and this is my favorite for at home use. I love the soft comfortable fabric of this mask. It feels luxurious. The fabric is a pleasure to wear against the skin. I'm a side sleeper and use the mask all night to block morning light. I love the strap system; this is one of the few masks that usually stays on throughout the night. The profile of the mask is also thin which makes it comfortable for all types of sleeper. It's even a great mask to pack in your suitcase for road trips. The Escape has no light leakage unlike some other masks. Best of all it doesn't rest on your eyes. It is a pleasure to use for extended periods. I absolutely love this mask and won't sleep without it.

I've been using the Dream Essentials Escape sleeping mask for quite some time now, since January 2011, and now it's August.

What I like most about this sleeping mask is that it is highly durable and well made. I've used two other sleeping masks including the Sweet Dreams countered sleeping mask from Dream Essentials which was good but not as durable or light-blocking as this mask. Durability is key for long term use, and the Escape does just that.

The mask is very large though, and heavy so to say. It is quite a bit of material on the face but does the job well. The convenient adjustable straps are a plus too!

The fabric is high quality and will definitely last you over time. The BEST feature is the contoured shape for the eyes which puts NO pressure on the eyes when you open them at night. Perfect mask for anyone!

I bought this for my mom as a gift. The quality of the item was high. Nice packaging, and includes the carry bag and ear plugs. Well made and will last a long time. I asked my mom for her opinion for the review, and she said to give it three stars and to say it's good for blocking out the light, but is a bit too heavy on the face. Would prefer it to be lighter in weight. She also said it can be uncomfortable when you are lying on your side or stomach. It is not necessarily a bad product it depends on your sleeping habits/positions and personal preference.

I work 3 nights a week and after almost 6 years, it's still difficult for me to sleep during the day. Other masks that I have tried always let light in and half the time I wake up with it on my forehead. This mask is the most perfect mask I have ever used! I get total darkness without it pressing against my eyelids. The first time I wore it, it was still on my face when I woke up!! I highly recommend this mask!!

Want Dream Essentials® EscapeTM Luxury Sleep Mask with Eye Cavities, Free Earplugs and Carry Pouch Discount?

I have been using the Lewis and Clark sleep mask for the last couple years, which is totally great in terms of comfort and it's ability to create total darkness, but was starting to get a little worn out and it also bleeds a blue color all over face and pillow case when you go to bed with wet hair...the latter is really frustrating, but I have learned to just buy blue pillow cases!

I purchased the Dream Essentials sleep mask a few days ago and was surprised by its rigidity. I think some people must be sensitive to fabric touching their eyes, which makes this product a decent candidate for those folks. I generally sleep with my eyes completely closed and would rather have material touching my eye lids than a sleep mask that doesn't stay in one place and can't shift with the movements of my body as I sleep. The velcro also got stuck in my hair all night because it kept falling down toward my neck, despite how tight I would try to tie it. The rigid material gave me an intense headache if I tried to sleep on my side or even turn my head to the side! You can't sleep on your side with this product because the material digs into the side of the head, which also caused a bit of bulging, leaving open spaces where light could seep in.

If you are a consistent back sleeper this product might work for you. I don't recommend this product for anyone who is a light sleeper, toss and turners, or sensitive to harsh contours of face masks on the skin.

Ultimate Spa Cosmetics Facial 3 Piece Set From Israel

Ultimate Spa Cosmetics Facial 3 Piece Set From Israellate last year, I went to visit a friend in Indianapolis and forgot my facial moisturizer. So, I took a trip to the local TJMaxx hoping i'll find something and indeed I did. I found the Ultimate Spa moisturizer for $7.00! I used it once and my skin felt so supple and moisturize all day. I feel in love with it. about 6 weeks later, it ran out and I went on the hunt for it. I checked out TJMaxx again and Marshells with no success. finally, I checked amazon and thank GOD, there it was. I love it so much, I won't be swtiching anytime soon. If you have dry skin problems, this product is your answer. not need smother your face with it. a litter will keep your skin moisturized all day long and the eye cream is great for reducing the apearance of those fine lines!
