Maxi-Health Research Mel O Chew Chewable Melatonin

Mel-O-Chew, 100 Chewable TabletsOur Pediatrician recommended Melatonin for our 6 year old who has trouble staying asleep. I have used Melatonin myself, so I was comfortable giving it to him. He is very picky, so I was concerned about taste and most of the Melatonin I could find in stores were larger pills that he couldn't swallow.

Maxi Mel O Chew tastes great and comes in the right dosage for children (don't give it to a child without a pediatrician's guidance). We were told to try 1 2 mg to see what worked for him. We've found 2 mg to be the right dosage. It does not "make" him sleep, it LETS him sleep. There is also no grogginess in the morning we haven't had any trouble getting him up for school regardless of how late it is when he takes it.

This is not a sleeping pill. Melatonin is something your body produces naturally. Teenagers produce a lot (this is why they tend to sleep a lot) and children and older people produce less. It is safe & proven enough that there is a pharmaceutical version that I have taken before, though I don't think they make it for children.

We are using the Melatonin for a month to help our son get into a better sleeping pattern and then we'll see how he does without it. This is not something that has given him trouble sleeping when we've skipped nights on weekends and I've never experienced any dependence either.

Overall a great product and we received it quickly.

For nearly a year my 7 yo daughter has had trouble falling asleep. Usually in bed around 8 pm, she doesn't fall asleep until 10 or 10:30pm. We made sure t.v. and computer time end before dinner. We've done warm baths, long walks, back rubs, used lavendar pillows... Still she would lay in bed and hum or look out the window for an hour or two.

My peditrician suggested 3mgs of Melatonin to help. Initially I started with just 1mg (I'm weary of medicine and even natural suppliments, so I prefer a low dose if it works.) However, we did end up moving to 3mgs after a couple of weeks. It has worked beautifully. She is able to fall asleep within about 3045 minutes of taking the pill. We give it to her about half an hour before bedtime (the same time we do multivitamins). It doesn't MAKE her fall asleep. If we are up a little while longer she isn't drowsy. It does, however, make it easier to fall asleep once she's relaxed in bed. It's a relief that she's getting enough rest!

We've used it for about a month and haven't had any side effects. And she loves the flavor. :)

ok yes, as parents my wife and I should do a better job starting the bedtime routine earlier, turning off the TV earlier, limiting sweets, etc., etc. Well, for whatever reason this is not our strong suit. This 1 mg light dosage of melatonin is very helpful winding our kids down and getting them ready for bed. Highly recommended if getting your kids to sleep is a struggle.

For 5 months our 6.5 year old son was having trouble falling asleep. Some times it would take him over an hour to fall asleep! He would cry, fuss, say he was scared, ask me to sleep with him, it was exhausting for ALL all of us!

The lack of sleep was affecting his behavior~ he was often cranky, and sometimes hyper. His teacher said he would space out in class, and was not paying attention. I noticed that he was never rested.

I started to research why some kids this age have a hard time turning off their thoughts, and bodies so they can fall asleep. After learning about serotonin, and how melatonin can help regulate a minds ability to fall a sleep~ I thought we'd give it a try.

We started giving our son his "nighttime vitamin" 3 months ago, and from the first day he fell asleep within 15 minutes. He wakes up rested, he has gained weight, and grew 1.5 inches in 2.5 months. Our son is doing great in school, and so far we have seen nothing but positive affects from the mel o chews.

We do not intend to use this aid forever, just until we pass this phase.

My daughter had a stomach viurs and it disturbed her sleep pattern, completely. With the amount of waking she did while being sick, after she was well, she continued to wake up out of habit. It was to the point of her screaming and yelling several times a night. Forget about bed time...complete nightmare. We needed to get her back on track, and used the melatonin for about 2 weeks prior to bed, and it got her right back on track. Her nap pattern has even improved immensely.

Right now 3 of my children are on breathing treatments and /or steriods for pneumonia and bronchitis. As you know, the breathing treatments and steriods tend to rev you up, and make you ancy. Almost making sleep impossible. We are giving the kids this melatonin to help them calm down and fall asleep. Not only does it work, but it is giviing them the help they need to get rest and get better.

The chewable tablets are liked by my children, so its not a fight to get them to take it. Also, they work in the time frame mentioned in the directions (20 minutes before bed). I also find that when they have taken the melatonin, they have a better rest, so when they wake up, they have slept well. Not cranky or irritable/sleepy. Basically no side effects. One pill is enough.

I would recommend this product to any parent who needs to help their child get back on track with their sleep pattern, has a child that has trouble calming down in the evening, or alleviating any symptoms from medication that may disturb their child's rest.
