I have a fairly expensive sleep sounds machine at home or I sleep with a fan on. Travelling was always a challenge because many hotel rooms are too quiet, the fan units are too loud or they blow air directly onto the bed. This little machine has solved that problem for me. The casing is solid and the time feature can easily toggle between your home and away times. I believe this is best travel sound machine on the market.

Other reviewers have complained that the sound loop is short and it is. However, it doesn't really effect me because I only need background noise. My suggestions for improvements:

1. Eliminate the recording feature.

2. There are many sounds to choose from (cut them in half and double the times of the others).

3. Include a heavier protective travel case.

I had my first one for two years. The electronics are temperamental and would go blank regularly and I had to reset all dates and times. That one was lost in lost baggage so I looked forward to buying a new one that worked. Sent it back because the alarm function did not work.

Tranquilassure Cyracos Lemon Balm Ext 600 mg 30 Caps

I have used this product now on about three different occasions (admittedly, a limited experience). I had never used Lemon Balm before, but I was interested in it due to the potential anxiolytic effects (through effects on GABA-related enzymes).

I chose this particular brand because of the dose-standardization not found on the others I encountered while looking on Amazon. Indeed, the dose does seem to provide a real effect -more than a bit of relaxation. My primary finding thusfar is this product's ability to induce drowsiness. Though the label recommends the product be taken in the morning, I recommend that you see how it feels for you before taking it on the morning of a day on which you have things to do since, at least for me, it seems to produce a sleepiness about equal to 50mg diphenhydramine.

Now, what about its anti-anxiety effects? Well, I would say it slightly decreases anxiety, but I personally feel that standardized hypericum perforatum (St. John's Wort) provides at least the same benefit -without the drowsiness. Nonetheless, I do want to emphasize that this standardized Lemon Balm extract indeed has a significant effect (unlike so many other herbal products), so if your goal is to try something that may help with anxiety, it may be worth your while.

An additional note is that I often experience light (or stronger) allergic reactions with many herbs, but this particular herb did not produce any noticeable allergies for me.

Overall, I would say that this product could be seen more as an herbal sleep aid -strong enough to help you sleep, but not necessarily strong enough to put you to sleep. However, the anxiolytic effects are questionable, especially when weighed against the drowsiness it produces. Perhaps longer-term use or lower-dosage (like half a capsule) would be better fit.

Update: Now that I have tried it several more times, I find that the drowsiness has subsided considerably (presumably as a result of tolerance) and that taking one before sleep provides a mild anti-anxiety effect through the night and for the first few hours after waking. I am still not sure I would want to take one upon waking, but for me, they serve as a comfortable and pleasant sleep aid.

However, after using it faithfully for approximately two months, I have seen no real change. While using it my skin felt soft, smooth and toned, but it really did nothing spectacular for wrinkles. Perhaps fine lines were reduced but that would be the very best I could offer.

It is well-priced so that anyone can give it a try and it is a nice softening lotion, but do not be too disappointed if the same face looks back at you in the mirror even after using it.

HOWEVER I was searching for raw plastic for a design project and what do you know this product came up! It contains polycaprolactone which is the exact material I am using to make plastic flashlight prototypes. I can't imagine that putting raw plastic on your face can be good for it long-term. Although I use their other product, the RevitaLift cream in the tub and like it very much; this anti-wrinkle concentrate, however, just didn't make a difference. I feel it's too expensive for such a small amount that is used up very quickly, so I can't justify buying any more of this. Also, someone else's review that it contains raw plastic has me concerned, if that's true. I do think it's important to moisturize your face to hold the wrinkles at bay for as long as possible, but despite all the money we spend trying to reverse wrinkles with products such as this, I doubt if anything short of plastic surgery can do much to reverse the affects of ageing. At some point, we have to start embracing our wrinkles... we've earned them. My money can be better spent elsewhere, I've decided.

I have suffered through chronic insomnia my entire life. I hate most over the counter sleeping pills because they make me feel groggy the next day, and other herbal remedies I've tried don't work. Alteril is wonderful. I have been taking it nearly every night for a year, and it still works well, without making me feel tired the next day. It does give me vivid dreams at times, right as I'm falling asleep, but they aren't disturbing. I would, and have, recommended this to friends.

irst, not everything works for everyone so some will not like it. Second, it's common sense to not mix meds and to check what side affects can be before taking anything. You can die from an OD of Vitamins. Everything affects everyone differently. Also never start with a full dose (unless prescribed by a doctor and even they tell you to stop for certain side affects); work your way up. Now for the review...

I've taken this for a while now off and on for those times when I'm stressed or can't fall asleep. It works fine for me. It also makes me a bit queasy if I try to stay up past the 1hr mark. I tested this and it seems it a side affect meant to force you to sleep before that point. I do end up a little groggy if I didn't have a full 8hrs and woke up before.

I have also taken ZMA which is mostly Zinc. This can't be taken with certain meds (as anything else since you can't take vitamins with some meds). It works fine and I sometime do a half dose of each together. Which depending on my state can be better.

In general, avoid drinking liquids an hour before bed. Don't eat for 2 hours before bed. Go to bed hungry (you don't want to be stuffed or starving; leave room for desert). Avoid sugars, chocolate, vitamin C a few hours before bedtime. Cut back on the coffee and drink it early and not on an empty stomach. Warm milk with honey, hot herbal (no caffeine) tea, as well as yogurt can help. Avoid TV, computers and video games at least an hour before as it overstimulates the brain and the senses. Try reading a book instead. Lighting also plays a role, dimmed lights and darkness start the body into night mode. Also, if taking allergy meds (most such as Zyrtec which can make you drowsy), take it at night. This way it's in your system, you're on a schedule and the effects helps you sleep.

I bought ZMA because of recommendation from body builders and possible increase in testosterone effects. I take these guys before I go to bed and I wake up feeling extremely alpha. I'm energetic, pumped, confident, usually have a morning erection, and am frankly slightly pissed off. Is there a better way to start your day off? Although the previous reviewer hated the taste, for me the peppermint version is quite refreshing. A bit like a peppermint lifesaver, although these are not candy. The sublingual usage prevents your digestive tract from breaking down the melatonin, so you get the full dose. This is sleep magic for me.

After giving this to my autistic son, his behaviour, sleep and compliance started to improve. He actually looks more relaxed. He has just started to initiate conversation. Melatonin affects individuals differently, so start with a very low dose like 300mcg, then adjust from there. As for long term use, there have been studies that have shown that if you develop tolerance, you just need to stop taking it for a few days. Liquid melatonin is the only way I can give it to my son as he cannot swallow tablets. I add it to his soy milk. He takes it without a problem. I have two children which progressively had difficulty going to bed, their ages are 8 and 9. They would stay up several hours after their normal bed time of 9 pm. I have read from a lot of people saying it doesn't leave you groggy but if I take more than half a teaspoon I find it makes me that way. I don't take melatonin unless I cant sleep at all or if I am not tired but it starts to work pretty fast no matter how much I take. I guess since its a liquid it affects you quicker since I have used the pill form before. My 3 year old who is autistic has problems sleeping and staying asleep and as far as getting to sleep she will usually go to sleep in about 10 to 15 minutes. After reading the few reviews here I figured that I should write one. This is a great product that helps you to sleep. It is not a strong side effect causing sleep aid like most over the counter products. Melatonin is natural to the body and will not cause you to be drowsy the next day. My wife and I love this stuff and take anywhere from a quarter to a full dropper depending upon how much help we need. Another thing that is important to know when taking any natural supplements is that you should keep it in your mouth, preferably under tongue, for a few mintues to increase the effectiveness. Also try to take it when you have not eaten or drank anything for at least 15 minutes. It's a little extra work to take it right, but taking something that is natural to the body and does not have side effects is worth it.

Final verdict Probably the best audio-only baby monitor that I have ever used (and I have tried several). I am a little disappointed that the hand unit can not control the lullabies and the night light, but as a whole I am very impressed.

I was very disappointed in this monitor. We have a Philips AVENT SCD520 that is about 2 years old and it's a wonderful product. So much so that when our second child was on the way we decided to get another Philips monitor so we could have one in each child's room. We ordered the SCD525 thinking that it would be pretty much the same as the SCD520 -after all it's just an updated version, and looks almost identical, right?

We have made a lot of use of the lullaby feature on the SCD520. It plays for about 15 minutes and then shuts off. On the SCD525, the lullaby plays for only about 3 or 4 minutes before shutting off. This is not nearly long enough -not many kids are going to be soundly asleep after only a few minutes most of the time. Also, unlike the crystal clear sound quality of our SCD520, the SCD525 had a significant buzz/hum (and yes I tried it with the other monitor shut off as well) -not what I'd expect from an expensive digital monitor. I called Philips customer service and they were very helpful. They agreed that the lullaby should play for more than a few minutes and sent me a replacement monitor.

Well, the replacement was exactly the same as the original, both in terms of the short lullaby and the poor sound quality. I called Philips again, and after waiting about 2 weeks for a response from higher-level tech support the word came back that the lullaby is only supposed to play for a few minutes -in other words, it's a "feature." Uh-huh. Sounds to me like they have a bug in the firmware. So I returned the replacement to Philips, the original to Amazon, and subsequently purchased the SCD530, with which I am very pleased (I didn't buy that one in the first place because I didn't need the hygrometer feature and wanted to save a little money).

Bottom line: the SCD520 and SCD530 are good products, the SCD525 not so much.

When I first discovered that this unit had temp/humidity alarms, I was temped to monitor my basement where I brew beer, but I then remembered why I ordered this unit. Worry not, I didn't put the baby in the basement with the beer to accomplish both aims, but the thought may have crossed my mind. The problem is that this unit does such a great job at monitoring sounds and sending them magically over with a clear crisp sound, so it would be a waste to just use the temp/humidity ability. So few monitors get this basic ability to send clear sound all wrong, so kudos to Philips for doing it right. The lullabies and light on the base is another plus, and before you know it, you're wondering why you looked at anything else.

$100 is a lot, but it's a small price to pay for peace of mind.

When I bought this baby monitor, I was looking for three basic qualifications:

1) A digital monitor (for privacy).

2) Sufficient range to get a reliable, clear signal (no dropped signals, interference, or static) throughout my modest 2-story, 1600 sq. ft. house, including in the basement and basement garage. Keep in mind I have lathe and plaster walls, which I believe can degrade a signal more than typical drywall walls.

3) Lights that alert you to baby's noise if you have the parent unit volume turned down.

Reviews seem VERY mixed on most digital monitors as far as reliability and range are concerned, many reviews being weighted towards the low end of 1 3 stars. The (relatively expensive) Philips/Avent line of digital DECT monitors, however, stood out from the rest of the pack with 4 -5 stars across the board. So I took the plunge with hopes that this monitor would fit my needs perfectly, and with the exception of a few minor complaints, I'm completely satisfied. This monitor even has a few handy bonus features that are icing on the cake.

The Good:

1) This monitor has a rock solid signal throughout my entire house (when not set to Eco mode), with the exception of my concrete-walled garage. However, even in my garage, if I leave the parent unit in a specific corner of the garage, I still obtain a perfect signal, which meets my needs.

2) A variety of bonus features that allow for personal customization, such as:

baby unit microphone sensitivity.

temperature display with programmable temperature alarm if baby's room gets to hot or cold.

an Eco mode which conserves the parent unit battery power if you don't need full transmitting power.

backup battery for the baby room unit in the event that your house loses power.

3) Like many baby monitors, this one has a talk-back feature. My wife and I don't use it much, but it's a nice-to-have.

4) Not a huge deal, but the user manual was actually written in clear English by someone competent about the product, like one of the engineers that designed this monitor. Probably the best user manual I've ever read for a mass-market product like this. While the monitor is not hard to use or program, it has a much larger feature-set than the typical baby monitor, and this manual tells you exactly how to use these features. Hard to get excited about a user manual, but I was impressed!

The Bad (only minor complaints):

1) The talk button on the parent unit is far too easy to push when picking up the monitor from its cradle or off a table. Not a feature you want when your baby is sleeping in her room because you momentarily transmit unwanted sound into her room (music, TV noise, conversation, etc). You learn to pick it up so this doesn't happen. Not a huge deal.

2) The LED lights on the parent unit are WAY too bright. They're fine for daytime use, but not so good when the parent unit is bedside at night. These lights can light up a dark room! We put a few layers of masking tape over the lights to tone them down a bit. Tacky, I know.

3) Whenever a setting is changed on the parent unit (such as speaker volume), the parent unit beeps VERY LOUD. This beep could've been much quieter.

4) Not a complaint, but a desired feature: a vibration alert would be nice, similar to the light alert, if the parent unit volume is turned down.

Given the few minor complaints, I took off a star. Otherwise, 5 stars all the way.

Hope my review helps your search for a baby monitor. I highly recommend this particular monitor, even at its high price, and I'm sure the other monitors in the Philips Avent DECT line are just as good if you desire more or fewer features. Happy parenting!

This monitor is well made and the technology is excellent: No miscellaneous noises at all just pure clean signal. The temperature sensor is excellent as well. However, even though this product is made with excellent technology and by a well respected electronics company (Philips), it is surprising that a key feature has been overlooked, resulting in a serious design flaw: inadequate volume. Even on maximum volume and full sensitivity (you can adjust the sensitivity for the minimum sound level that activates the speaker), one cannot hear baby sounds well enough (both my wife and I have excellent hearing). The monitor includes many, bright LEDs that light up when sounds are picked up, but the LEDs are not enough to wake someone up from a deep sleep. The problem with this product is that the same goes for the volume: even on max volume, it's not enough to wake one from a deep sleep immediately when a baby starts making noises. What mom would feel comfortable knowing that it may take her baby to cry at the top of his/her lungs to wake up mom and/or dad? If your hearing is below average, I recommend you look elsewhere for a baby monitor.

I work midnight shifts and don't sleep well when it's not dark. My room is such that making it totally dark during the day is not practical.

Prior to using this product I would only get about 4 hours of sleep before waking. With this mask, I slept a full 7 hours.

It's very comfortable, even for side sleeping. I've only used "flat" sleep masks in the past and I've always hated how they constricted my eyes. This mask holds itself away from your eyes--I forget its there.

A very useful product. I dinged it a star because it slid around on my face and it lets some light in near my nose. It's much better than anything I've tried, so I recommend it.

I was a bit leery about ordering this due to feedbacks that these were not for side-sleepers. I am a side-sleeper, and I have had no problems using this sleeping mask. It took a little getting used to because I used to have those elastic straps instead of velcro-fasteners, but once I got the right fit I didn't have to unfasten/fasten the strap every time. The mask is very comfy, it doesn't put pressure on the eyes because it's hollowed out, and the padding effectively blocks light from the sides of the eyes. It is not fit for stomach sleepers, though. Overall, I really like this product!

Comfortable and blocks all light. Strap is too short for people with big heads. It is elastic and I can pull it tight enough to be secure, but then I get a headache from being too tight. When it fits comfortably there is only about 1/4 inch contact between the two strap ends. There should be at least 1 more inch of material for it to fit right. 5 stars for quality and light blocking. 1 star for too short strap.
